:-( Stan, fuck, you knew him.

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Thursday, 20 July 2006 12:21 (seventeen years ago) link

I guess he hid those tendencies well. Then again people at the SL site said he used to joke about dodgy websites in albania or something and now they realise he wasn't joking at all.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Thursday, 20 July 2006 12:24 (seventeen years ago) link

This is quite a shocking week. The guy at the desk next to me at work found out two days ago that someone he worked with for a couple of years has gruesomely killed an au pair girl he thought he was in love with when she told him she had a real boyfriend and wasn't going to take care of his kids anymore. He hit her that hard her father wasn't able to recognize her in the morgue. Exactly the same story: "he was just a regular dude at work, I had no idea"

StanM (StanM), Thursday, 20 July 2006 12:26 (seventeen years ago) link

It seems he chose muslim girls deliberately too.

Although it's all hugely speculative, I think the rationale was thought to be that if they told anyone, the families would be more likely to keep it within the family. Rather than any specific racist intent. That's just what I read, obviously

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 20 July 2006 12:27 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah thats what it says on the forum I mentioned. But he was well known for his racist views on said forum. So who knows.

*barf*

(BTW Stan, in the future I'll probably be in Ghent from time to time. Maybe we can meet up once.)

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Thursday, 20 July 2006 12:32 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't really post on the SL board because it's cunt soup, but I browse it cos a lot of people know their stuff. I don't recall him posting that much noteworthy in that respect

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 20 July 2006 12:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Cool! (xpost to Nathalie, obviously)

StanM (StanM), Thursday, 20 July 2006 12:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh fuck, I (vaguely) know this guy! Stayed round his house in Ghent once when I was on tour a couple of years ago, he seemed like a really, really good guy! Guess I was wrong! He was married with kids too, as I recall it. Jeez.

Matt #2 (Matt #2), Thursday, 20 July 2006 15:18 (seventeen years ago) link

As if people were looking for them.

Actually, some probably are. do YOU want to deal with these people?

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 21 July 2006 07:46 (seventeen years ago) link

uh no, but some have charles manson's records, right?

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Friday, 21 July 2006 07:51 (seventeen years ago) link

Some kind of discussion about this is going on here, but I think that the board admin there (Aldo) is pretty much spot on in his second paragraph:

In terms of being able to still enjoy TPOG or not, I think this is a personal matter. Every individual reacts to this differently. Being shallow or not shallow I don't think comes into question here. Personally I do think a lot of people to often disasociate everything with persons in terms to better deal with things, often leaving the human-eqation behind for some clean, and in my eyes unrealistic and undesirable, cognitive view of the world and humanity, devoid of feelings and inter-personal relationships. I can fully understand people not being able to listen to TPOG anymore without associating what has come to pass. And I can also understand people for whom it does not matter.

StanM (StanM), Friday, 21 July 2006 09:29 (seventeen years ago) link

Some guy found this on the BBC website and posted it to Southern Lord :

Q What your investigation failed (or wasn't allowed) to mention that a growing number of issues have arisen concerning possible links between the alleged protection of Dutroux et al & the Belgian Royal Family. In 2000 a French journalist published a book allegedly proving links between paedophile networks & the Royal Family of Belgium, It was of course outlawed to be published here & was hushed up surprisingly quickly.

STONERROCK.COM OFFICIAL STATEMENT: This situation is deeply disturbing and saddening to all of us here at StonerRock.com. We have removed Thee Plague of Gentlemen CDs and LPs from All That's Heavy permanently and thrown them in the trash.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 21 July 2006 12:34 (seventeen years ago) link

I forwarded the news story to NME dot com.

At present they are running an exclusive on how the Killers are recording a new album. Imagine that.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 21 July 2006 13:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Please elaborate, I can't tell whether you're serious (they'll never run it, far to unknown/metal for the NME) or trying to tell us we should shut up and only discuss bands you know (do you often participate in threads about bands you don't know?).

StanM (StanM), Friday, 21 July 2006 14:29 (seventeen years ago) link

(sorry. not trying to pick a fight or anything, I just didn't get what Mark's latest reply meant.)

StanM (StanM), Friday, 21 July 2006 14:30 (seventeen years ago) link

OK, here goes:

It's a serious news story, it should be covered.

The NME didn't reply to me.

(do you often participate in threads about bands you don't know?). All the time.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 21 July 2006 14:51 (seventeen years ago) link

ok, sorry.

StanM (StanM), Friday, 21 July 2006 15:12 (seventeen years ago) link

It doesn't involve pete doherty so they won't be interested.

ebay value rising... rising...

talked to a belgian acquaintance last night and he's pretty freaked out about this. but after that dutroux case it must seem like some never-ending well of evil has opened up there.

GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (yournullfame), Friday, 21 July 2006 22:48 (seventeen years ago) link

I think most people are freaked out about it Belgian or not.
