Ned, is that offer still good?

js (honestengine), Saturday, 10 December 2005 18:49 (eighteen years ago) link

It is a permanent standing offer. Drop me your address via e-mail.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 10 December 2005 19:02 (eighteen years ago) link

I guess I'm the only person to prefer 'DI Go Pop' to the EPs?

I.M. (I.M.), Saturday, 10 December 2005 20:27 (eighteen years ago) link

Ned, you are a great man.

Hairy Asshurt (Toaster), Saturday, 10 December 2005 20:35 (eighteen years ago) link

It's just something that has to be done, really.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 10 December 2005 20:41 (eighteen years ago) link

Received today, Ned. Many thanks! I think you emailed the tracklisting, but I haf lost it oh no! Any chance you could post it again, or e-mail me? Sorry to be an arse.

Dr.C, Monday, 12 December 2005 13:42 (eighteen years ago) link

Wait - I have it!! Ignore previous.

Dr.C, Monday, 12 December 2005 13:45 (eighteen years ago) link

not impressed with second language, yeesh ...

IM sometimes i like DI GO POP better than the EPs; its more confrontational on the one hand but is also a nicely sequenced, compact album, which when im in the right mood is another advantage.

js66676, Monday, 12 December 2005 16:23 (eighteen years ago) link

I guess I'm the only person to prefer In Debt to the EPs?

Mr. Snrub, Monday, 12 December 2005 18:13 (eighteen years ago) link

I prefer In Debt too, but I can easily see why people prefer the EPs. There's just a lot more going on on most of the songs, and so many unique sounds. But the early stuff has more of an immediacy to it, and is closer to the balance I like in their music. I never got into some of the weirder songs on the EPs, like "From the Devil" and "Scattered Showers".

Oh poor Second Language EP... that is probably my favorite thing they did!

Vinnie (vprabhu), Monday, 12 December 2005 22:06 (eighteen years ago) link

I never got into some of the weirder songs on the EPs, like "From the Devil" and "Scattered Showers".

You're fired. Er, wait. ;-)

It's odd about In Debt for me -- I played it to DEATH on original release (I was lucky enough to be in the UK shortly after it came out and though I'd not heard anything by them I had heard enough about them -- credit to Simon Price and David Stubbs in particular -- to know I would love it), but I haven't pulled it out for listening in years, despite my very high regard for many of those early songs. "Fallen Down the Wire" is in retrospect astonishingly underrated.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 12 December 2005 22:48 (eighteen years ago) link

Just received Ned's burned copy of the EPs this weekend. One of the things I think I like most about DI is, when I listen to their songs, my attention is sort of diffused across the track- there's no one element that my ears really train in on excessively. Although, having said that, there are some tracks where the guitar is just drop-dead gorgeous and it's hard not to just stand back (metaphorically) in wonder. Anyway, enjoying the EPs very much- thanks a ton, Ned.

Kevin H (Kevin H), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 02:06 (eighteen years ago) link

Yer welcome!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 02:23 (eighteen years ago) link

My favorite song from the 5 eps, is probably "Love Stepping Out". A close second is "Scattered Showers" -- love the kitty moan.

van igloo (van smack), Saturday, 17 December 2005 04:07 (eighteen years ago) link

Ned, I came across this thread before but I don't think I asked for candy before like I meant to. Can I have disco inferno candy please? It's the holidays.

I can boast posession of a handwritten letter from many years ago from Ian Crause but never mind. Please give me the candy.

Halloween Spooky Party Hints! (Bimble...), Saturday, 17 December 2005 05:14 (eighteen years ago) link

If anyone's on Oink, I uploaded the 5 eps.

fizzcaraldo (Justin M), Saturday, 17 December 2005 09:24 (eighteen years ago) link

Whatever happened to the D.I lyrics thread? we were so close to getting them all I felt.

Hairy Asshurt (Toaster), Saturday, 17 December 2005 11:22 (eighteen years ago) link

i think the kitty moan is just the car sound sped up!?@?!?!?!??!?!?!?!>??!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!??!

njksd, Saturday, 17 December 2005 21:15 (eighteen years ago) link

at some point i will also take you up on this one, ned. but it'll be next year. if you're ok with that?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 17 December 2005 21:27 (eighteen years ago) link

I was just wondering what the availability of DI albums is?

I've been listening to DI Go Pop on and off for a year and it is clearly great and wanted to get hold of more stuff.

Technicolour having been re-released is probably get-able, whereas the EPS seem impossible to get from what I read here, what about the first album/In Debt?

Rob Cameron, Sunday, 18 December 2005 00:06 (eighteen years ago) link

i got in debt used off amazon.com for $2

jk85558, Sunday, 18 December 2005 03:39 (eighteen years ago) link

Only just noticed this -- the answer is 'not a problem.'

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 19:42 (eighteen years ago) link

Thanks for all the information. I've got DI Go Pop, The Five EPs, and In Debt. Is Technicolour the only one left?

Harpal (harpal), Thursday, 2 February 2006 11:25 (eighteen years ago) link

I have still never found an original CD copy of The Last Dance. This makes me sad.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Thursday, 2 February 2006 11:31 (eighteen years ago) link

It makes me sad too.

Hairy Asshurt (Toaster), Thursday, 2 February 2006 12:01 (eighteen years ago) link

i now have two copies of summer's last sound that both have CD rot and won't play.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Thursday, 2 February 2006 19:06 (eighteen years ago) link

I have still never found out how to play the guitar to "Love Stepping Out". This makes me sad.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Thursday, 2 February 2006 19:51 (eighteen years ago) link

geez, the the last dance 12" is going for a mint on ebay - really love a copy to play "the long dance" w/, sigh. at least it seems to be going to, um, an australian who loves OMIT(!?).

etc, Tuesday, 14 February 2006 15:26 (eighteen years ago) link

did all this stuff come out on re-issue? if not how come?

piscesboy, Tuesday, 14 February 2006 15:42 (eighteen years ago) link

The EPs didn't. Thus my eternal task of burning CDRs. :-)

Speaking of which, I know a certain grimly fiendish has received a little something in the mail. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 15:45 (eighteen years ago) link

two weeks pass...
and he promised he'd report back here, didn't he?

to tell the truth, what can i say? it was reading about DI here that made me tap up alext for a copy of "... go pop", which i remember him raving about when we were at university but i never really "got" ...

... but best part of a decade on, it all suddenly made a frightening amount of sense.

and then the EPs; where do i start? it's not the kind of music i can write about, to tell the truth. i can't get a handle on it yet. there's so much going on; so much sound; so many ideas; so much beauty; so much anger; just ... so MUCH. fucking incredible, basically. the kind of music i will never tire of listening to.

maybe eventually i'll get my head round disco inferno. but i kinda hope not. i like what they do to me.

i'm just annoyed it's taken me this long to appreciate it.

anyway: ned, thank you very much indeed. and i hope you've enjoyed what i sent you in return.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 1 March 2006 23:42 (eighteen years ago) link

(and at some point i'm gonna spend a good bit of time over at the lyrics thread, deciphering.)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 1 March 2006 23:42 (eighteen years ago) link

:-) It was a more than fair gift in exchange, sir. Glad to see it knocked you sideways too.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 March 2006 23:44 (eighteen years ago) link

i put them on at work after we closed and somebody called up to music to complain that the CD was skipping and please turn it off.

if anyone is having problems with cd rot on your copy of summer's last sound/love stepping out pls go to this site and click on misc, once you are there. there is a big article on cd rot and what to do about it. unfortunately the discs were made in the uk by pdo in the wrong time period, ive sent off an email and will hopefully get a reply from them, will let you know. http://www.foetus.org/

dEvO69, Thursday, 23 March 2006 10:15 (eighteen years ago) link

I have still never found The Last Dance.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Thursday, 23 March 2006 10:33 (eighteen years ago) link

hi sick, sorry you havent been able to find it, its actually the supposed most collectible of the disco inferno cds, even though i had more probs finding second language and have actually seen second language go for much higher on ebay. ive actually seen it two times in the last year on ebay and never on a collectors site. i think i payed 24 british pounds for it, ive seen it go up to 45 so its a haphazard way of obtaining it. on ebay, make sure you search worldwide and check the other cds listings on the left hand side of the screen, that is usually where i found them. best wishes on the search i still have the original second language to track down so know how it feels, luckily ill be able to listen to it soon, thx to the ever wonderful ned :)
