Hamfatter for next year's gong 'm calling it

blueski, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 11:47 (fifteen years ago) link

British Sea Power - is an undeserving selection - however there have been far worse selections in previous years, the horrors of: Turin Brakes, The Thrills, The View, Snore Patrol, Hard-Fi and Jamie T.

djmartian, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 11:50 (fifteen years ago) link

I think they were called Snow Patrol, not Snore Patrol

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 11:52 (fifteen years ago) link

i always call them Snore Patrol

djmartian, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 11:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Why?

William Bloody Swygart, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 11:57 (fifteen years ago) link

Last Shadow Puppets? That's shit surely?

Tom D., Tuesday, 22 July 2008 11:58 (fifteen years ago) link

Those odds = "we don't have a fucking clue who's going to win".

Matt DC, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 11:59 (fifteen years ago) link

Thinking about it though my money would be on Estelle.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:00 (fifteen years ago) link

Wee, cowrin', timorous bookmaking going on there

Tom D., Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:00 (fifteen years ago) link

Why's that, Matt?

Scik Mouthy, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:01 (fifteen years ago) link

hee i wonder if estelle and adele will have to be kept apart backstage again!

lex pretend, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:01 (fifteen years ago) link

Are you 9?

Scik Mouthy, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:01 (fifteen years ago) link

the "we'll show HER who's industry is instituionally racist" vote

going against her is that she's already done well from it and had a #1

blueski, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:02 (fifteen years ago) link

Adele should turn up in blackface

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:03 (fifteen years ago) link

Or holding an Estelle bottle opener

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:03 (fifteen years ago) link

And Estelle should shove some cushions up her jumper and cotton wool in her cheeks

Tom D., Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:04 (fifteen years ago) link

My logic for Estelle:

- There have been two big rock winners in a row, and before that was Antony, no black artist has won it since Dizzee in what 03?

- People have actually heard of her but they can still at least look a bit credible and edgy by broadsheet standards.

- If Radiohead win they'll just look lazy.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:04 (fifteen years ago) link

I wonder how the members of Portishead are feeling at the mo? being overlooked for the shortlist

djmartian, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:06 (fifteen years ago) link

After all that intensive hard work on that new album too

they only made another album to win awards and now it's all ruined

blueski, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:07 (fifteen years ago) link

Expect next record to be all downbeat and sulky to reflect grave disappointment.

radio 1 newsbeat this morning...

Portishead 'should win' Mercury
http://news.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/hi/music/newsid_7518000/7518842.stm

djmartian, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:12 (fifteen years ago) link

Apparently Portishead are doing a cover of Ultravox's Lament

djmartian, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:15 (fifteen years ago) link

Also, no female act has won the award since 2002 (Ms Dynamite).

Dingbod Kesterson, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:16 (fifteen years ago) link

that would be amazing (xp)

blueski, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:17 (fifteen years ago) link

No point choosing the best winner. It's all fkn politics. No interest.

Have Los Campesinos been mentioned once on this thread, out of interest? Doesn't look like it to me. :-D

Just got offed, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:18 (fifteen years ago) link

Portishead what is on your ipod is it 'Teardrop' by your fellow West Countrymen Massive Attack?

blueski, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:18 (fifteen years ago) link

Your favourite jokes about trip-hop...

Just got offed, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:19 (fifteen years ago) link

For what it's worth, Girls Aloud have only been mentioned once on this thread thus far and Sugababes not at all.

It ain't for nothing that Los Campesinos looks a little like Dom Passantinos when you squint at it, they excel in pissing off everyone in the music industry. And that's why I (l) them.

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:20 (fifteen years ago) link

they must feel NUMB, and that the MMP is run by COWBOYS. maybe to cheer up they will have a cup of tea and a BISCUIT.

blueski, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:22 (fifteen years ago) link

^^^this dude clearly ain't going to Indietracks this year

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:23 (fifteen years ago) link

Guardian doubtless already moaning about lack of Tuung, Adem, twirly birds chopping wood etc.

Dingbod Kesterson, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:23 (fifteen years ago) link

So are there acts called Polar Bear and Sennen? How about ... Dreams Burn Down? In A Different Place?

the pinefox, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:26 (fifteen years ago) link

Indietracks looks like hell on earth

blueski, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:28 (fifteen years ago) link

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:31 (fifteen years ago) link

Mark G, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:32 (fifteen years ago) link

MILKY WIMPSHAKE might be the worst band name I have ever seen.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:32 (fifteen years ago) link

hey Dom maybe there will be an Innocent smoothie stand for you

ha look what turned up in my RSS reader: via Amazon New Releases RSS

Hamfatter - What Part of Hamfatter Do You Not Understand?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/What-Part-Hamfatter-You-Understand/dp/B001C3MYEY/

What Part of Hamfatter Do You Not Understand? - turning it around, I understand that you are a bunch of no talent lucky chancers that hoodwinked an idiot businessman that knows nothing about music

look at the front cover - coming to a bargain bucket in January 2010 at 2.99 in a HMV sale

would 500-1 to the make the Mercury Prize 2009? be generous odds

Is there actually a steam train to the festival? That's nice. I would consider going for that alone.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:35 (fifteen years ago) link

gonna just quietly sneak away from that li'l BBCode faux pas

Just got offed, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Indietracks looks like hell on earth

Blueski, we agree about something music-related -- this calls for a celebration.
