Brotha Lynch Hung "Coathanga Strangla" about as good as Dinner and a Movie. sonically similar but the production's even darker if ya can believe that.
this is one of my fav trax from it

^^^lol there were ads for that at my bus stop. guest list is crazy
I'm digging Return to 4eva, especially the back half, but Pfork review was right that a lot of his rapping is pretty pedestrian.

also: lol at Kurt Cobain line, and it seems like half the songs contain specific references to Goodie Mob, Outkast, or UGK

i was telling j0rdan (i think?) that i suspect berner has some rich uncle, how tf is a regional rap dude like berner who looks like a high school stoner affording wiz khalifa guest spots??
'yoko' is dope tho
― geeks, dweebs, nerds & lames (D-40), Thursday, 21 April 2011 16:23 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah why would wiz khalifa align himself with a regional rapper who looks like a high school stoner
― some dude, Thursday, 21 April 2011 16:24 (thirteen years ago) link
also, could have been recorded before wiz really became mainstream-famous

i mean, who the fuck is berner?? he dropped two albums with jacka. he has to have deep pockets
― geeks, dweebs, nerds & lames (D-40), Thursday, 21 April 2011 16:38 (thirteen years ago) link
maybe he's just tight w/ the jacka* and those albums did well enough to fund his other projects?
*btw is deej the only person in the world who only ever calls the jacka just "jacka"
― some dude, Thursday, 21 April 2011 16:39 (thirteen years ago) link
its such a weird pairing is all
― geeks, dweebs, nerds & lames (D-40), Thursday, 21 April 2011 16:42 (thirteen years ago) link
i mean, hes not a great rapper, although occasionally he writes some bars that are pretty solid. but his flow is goofy

dudes like Lee Majors & Laroo had careers prior to working w/ jack, iirc. and its not like berner was in mob figaz. idk i just get a diplomat's son vibe from dude (maybe this is racist)

Disney should reboot alladin for generation y and have the alladin grow up to be berner

If you add 'the' to some of those other dude's names they kinda sound like superhero sidekicks -- the berner! the husalah! the jacka!
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 21 April 2011 16:52 (thirteen years ago) link
it did surprise me the first time i saw stuff about the jacka outside ilm and was like "wait his name has a the?"
― some dude, Thursday, 21 April 2011 16:54 (thirteen years ago) link
in songs other artists call him 'jack' 'the jack' 'the jack artist' 'jacka' 'the jacka' etc etc etc

unrelated: maybe this is a completely stupid observation, but I was noticing today how K.R.I.T. does that southern drawl thing where he drops hard syllables from the ends of various words ("love" becomes "luh", "world" becomes "wurl" etc. and yes I know loads of southern guys do this) and it struck me as being remarkably similar to African pidgin english

seen devin live twice.first show was incredible, him by his lonesome at his first NYC gig, tight quarters.Spankrock opened and were basically booed off the stage and devin was received rapturously.he was solo and handed out marrygwanna to everybody for like the first four songs and was basically incredible.i got hella paranoid. it was still probably a top ten show for me.second show was about two years ago and he did a gig with the odd squad that was less well attended at a larger venue and felt more like a standard rap gig. less w33d too.i would recommend.
