Done and sent! Unranked except for number 1's and that alone caused enough problems, I swear my copy of Shook Ones II skipped when I tried to play it earlier 'cos it missed out on the #1 spot by a whisker

man this is overwhelming i have no idea how to do a ballot for this

i made ballots for this the other night, i think i'm just gonna send them now before i start second-guessing myself into oblivion

ciderpress, Wednesday, 27 April 2011 17:06 (thirteen years ago) link

Do it. I've been regretting ever since I sent, but better that than endless tinkering.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 27 April 2011 17:35 (thirteen years ago) link

I voted! the only way I was able to narrow down the tracks list in a way that didn't feel impossible was by limiting myself to only proper singles and cutting it off at nothing after 1999. was fun, though, can't wait to see the results!

barbaric ya'll (some dude), Wednesday, 27 April 2011 19:00 (thirteen years ago) link

nothing after 1999? not even like b.o.b. or southern hospitality or takeover etc.?

popular gay automobile (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 27 April 2011 19:17 (thirteen years ago) link

nothin! i have '90s jay and kast on there though.

barbaric ya'll (some dude), Wednesday, 27 April 2011 19:20 (thirteen years ago) link

and '00s jay and luda on my albums ballot

barbaric ya'll (some dude), Wednesday, 27 April 2011 19:21 (thirteen years ago) link

probably won't vote. don't feel competent enough to do the albums ballot (though I fear LL, Reachin and OG will miss my votes) or mentally stable enough to do singles.

gospodin simmel, Wednesday, 27 April 2011 19:44 (thirteen years ago) link

tbh I narrowed down my ballot to things I actually still own and listen to

feel free to vote for less than 50 ballots gospodin! don't fear them missing your votes when they are only an email away from having the,

I went through both ballots and made a good first shift. Will ponder on this and re-listen most the coming weeks. I am hardly into modern day hiphop, 90% of my votes will probably be from before 2000.

I am wondering if this beaut can make the top 50?

remixes are going to be added into og versions unless radically different or more popular (say 'shut 'em down' isn't for the og or mixtape freestyles etc.) in which the og versions will have their points added to the remix!

Man i swear i miss this kind of hip hop music. Todays music is freaking crap. The late 90's to like 2004 were the golden days of hip hop.
Sonicfanallways 4 days ago 3

bad thread ideas: seeing how recent a video you can find comments complaining that hiphop isn't what it used to be.

opposite for me -- wasn't too hard to sort out my personal canon of top 50 rap LPs but narrowing down 50 tracks out of all the thousands of songs i've loved felt impossible.

some dude, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 20:52 (thirteen years ago) link

For me, rap is much more a singles genre (is that rockist? who cares.) and, as such, I have a much firmer grasp on which songs have meant the most to me over the last 25 years or so. As for albums, I really only have a total of 20 or 25 albums that I return to time after time and stretching that list out to 50 (which I may not even end up doing) is going to be more of a task.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 20:58 (thirteen years ago) link

I've pretty much decided my Top 50s but I'm enjoying listening to all the nominations so much that I'm going to hold off submitting for a while yet. I've listened to nothing but hip hop since Sunday - this poll is a total joy.

Kinda tempted to place this as my #1 track... It starts all cool with some well put slice-of-life storytelling, but the way everything leads to the epiphany at the end - damn, just damn!

Tuomas, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 21:55 (thirteen years ago) link

And yeah, choosing just 50 track seems like an impossible task, albums were much easier to narrow down.
