I did too (tracked it down at the height of my U2 obsession in high school). iirc it came out in 1983 and by 1988 it already sounded really dated. Didn't listen to it much (I think The Edge only played on two tracks), but I wonder if I'd like it more now.

I'm on a great path that began with solo Roedelius, which led me to Oneohtrix Point Never / Emeralds / side projects, the Harald Grosskopf reissue, Demdike Stare, Darkstar, etc, etc. I'm jumping back into current music in a huge way after being a bit out of it for the past several years, and it's exhilarating. I remember thinking years ago how much I loved Roedelius's tracks on "Zuckerzeit" but never having investigated his solo stuff, which was a huge mistake! (I've been a once-in-a-while reader and--less frequently--poster since 2000...)

^ so awesome; you should check out the new Zombi LP, it's along the same vein as Oneohtrix/Emeralds for sure

i've been playing tons of Roedelius solo as well

Listening to Smoke Ring for my Halo a lot. It's just comfortable.
Interesting thing about the Snake Charmer ep: Arthur Russell has a credit on it (for lyrics, I think), but yeah it's not very revelatory.

I just played Cluster & Eno's s/t last night! I found that on original-pressing vinyl about eight years ago; one of my best finds ever, and I think I paid $8 for it. The first track, "Ho Renomo," sucks you right into the mood of the thing. I'll definitely have to scope the Vladislav Delay Quartet thing, as I've been and on-and-off Sasu Ripatti fanboy ever since Vocalcity blew my head apart--gosh, quite a long time ago.

Clarke B., Tuesday, 24 May 2011 14:03 (thirteen years ago) link

i've heard plenty of his stuff, but never Vocalcity!

lost sounds! love black wave and, and everything else, basically. but drugs, check out memphis is dead (their debut) - rougher and dirtier, maybe not as ambitious, but lots of great tunes/riffs.

some indie rock comp on a german label from 1989. *diamonds and porcupines*. wedding present, montgomerys, go-team, bats, st.christopher, mc tells, earwigs under fire, sachiko, crocket and jones, fenton weills, pale saints, easter island, dog faced hermans, beat happening, viola crayfish, cannanes.

since i've only heard wedding present, bats, pale saints, and dog faced hermans and never heard the rest of these bands i figured i'd play it.

and, no, i don't think i've ever actually heard beat happening.
