Picked up all of thse used over the weekend, for a grand total of $17. Really, really loving the Mammatus stuff. The Kluster wasn't quite what I was expecting, think I need to give it a little more time.

Really, really loving this. Their version of "By the Time I Get To Phoenix" pulled me in. Big thanks to whichever ilxor tipped me off to this via their blog.

Anthony More "World Service" lp, which is very different from the CD version...

Biber - Violin Sontata, Romanesca

read this as bieber and was confused for several seconds

the manarchist cookbook (Edward III), Wednesday, 15 June 2011 16:13 (twelve years ago) link

my spelling on this forum is usually pretty lax but getting to Sontata from Sonatas is pretty bad even for me

really getting into Biber. Tony Conrad kept mentioning the scordatura tuning in the Mystery Sonatas as a primary influence on his playing in the Theatre of Eternal Music / 'Four Violins', so that was my in -- then I learned the Violin Sonatas incorporate birdsong and now I'm double hooked, the Sonatas have some shockingly dissonant moments

xpost gotta hear that Anthony More lp at some point

Milton Parker, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 17:31 (twelve years ago) link

milton you spelled that wrong--you're 'really getting into bieber'

geeta, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 17:44 (twelve years ago) link

had an opportunity to play a festival w/ tony conrad this month but drummer couldn't do it urgh

jonzun crew - 'lost in space'
rene hell - 'the terminal symphony'
my upstairs housemate's new song, which i've now heard about 25 times through the ceiling

geeta, Thursday, 16 June 2011 23:23 (twelve years ago) link

is your housemate's new song entitled: "Oh My God Please Not The Human League Again!"?

because that seems only fair...

scott seward, Friday, 17 June 2011 01:58 (twelve years ago) link

hahaha! no, i haven't been listening to all that much human league. but i have been listening to a lot of early '80s stuff as of late, mostly conny plank productions. my housemate is amanda palmer--she has a serious career going for her, and i'm glad she's at home writing new material instead of doing the treadmill-to-hell tour schedule (though that will begin again in the fall...)

geeta, Friday, 17 June 2011 02:44 (twelve years ago) link

okay i had too google her but now i know who she is. and i remember that group she was in. she is big with the kids! and wiki says she went to the same college as my beloved maria.

scott seward, Friday, 17 June 2011 02:59 (twelve years ago) link

hey clarke, what do you think of that vladislav delay quartet??

j., Friday, 17 June 2011 03:09 (twelve years ago) link

john rocca - i want it to be real (the ultimate mixes '87) (citybeat)

("alternative dance mix" on here is great. john + farley + arthur = luv)

scott seward, Saturday, 18 June 2011 12:59 (twelve years ago) link

now this. so good. play new order into eddy (or the other way around) at your next gig and people will be screaming.

scott seward, Saturday, 18 June 2011 13:10 (twelve years ago) link

the sense - bohnen (zyx - 1987)

(instrumental mix on this is hot)

scott seward, Saturday, 18 June 2011 13:21 (twelve years ago) link

phaeax - talk about (high fashion - 1983)

(this is cool, but i don't love it. even though this actually did come out on zyx this copy is a dutch pressing via dureco benelux)

scott seward, Saturday, 18 June 2011 13:31 (twelve years ago) link

man 2 man - sex symbol (recca records)

(needed this! not hard to find really (online anyway) i just never see it (in real life). so now i'll keep this until i am dead.)

scott seward, Saturday, 18 June 2011 13:37 (twelve years ago) link

ted currier (as "det reirruc") - like eddie did (the eddie murphy rap)/axel f (the beverly hills version) (club records - 1985)

(definitely keeping this too cuz while i could never be a latin rascals completist, i do the best that i can and their axel f edits are great)

scott seward, Saturday, 18 June 2011 13:43 (twelve years ago) link

sax - give yourself to me (loud house - 1989)

(a la cabrera & moran, i could never be a todd terry completist for obvious reasons, but i can try! used to have this but i don't know what the hell happened to it. so i'll keep this copy.)

scott seward, Saturday, 18 June 2011 13:46 (twelve years ago) link

Hey J, I haven't fully digested the Vladislav Delay Quartet, to be honest. I'm very attracted to its textures, but it's a fairly dense and forbidding listen... Not as immediately beguiling as the Moritz von Oswald Trio record (and it's not as if I expected it to be ultra-similar to that album, but comparisons are inevitable I think), but more going on.

Clarke B., Saturday, 18 June 2011 13:49 (twelve years ago) link

neecy dee - best of me (tnt - 1984)

(cool freestyle single but it kinda screams for some good edit/dub action. produced by gary turnier of gary's gang fame.)

scott seward, Saturday, 18 June 2011 13:55 (twelve years ago) link

hot blood - disco dracula (dynamo - 1977)

(remarkably i don't need to own this! so you can get a copy if you are in greenfield, ma. 8 bucks? something like that. maybe 10. its in really nice shape.)

scott seward, Saturday, 18 June 2011 14:04 (twelve years ago) link

meccano - activate my heart/ipnotica (keepon musik - 1986)

(could do without the tina turner/rob lowe sax solo, but what are you gonna do?)

scott seward, Saturday, 18 June 2011 14:32 (twelve years ago) link

persuasion - take me now (power - 1985)

(i love this song. was this huge in canada? canadian hi-nrg! it could never replace my beloved vicious pink in the "take me now" sweepstakes, but its great in its own way.)

scott seward, Saturday, 18 June 2011 14:38 (twelve years ago) link

the beach boys - today
the beach boys - smiley smile
the beach boys - friends
the beach boys - 20/20
the beach boys - sunflower
the beach boys - carl and the passions: so tough
the beach boys - surf's up
the beach boys - holland

corpse pose (missingNO), Saturday, 18 June 2011 14:55 (twelve years ago) link

amante - give it to me (tsr - 1987)

atrium - week-end (time-records)

can-dee - lucky day (kee wee - 1984)

(can-dee single one of those things people try and sell for a ton with all caps KILLER BOOGIE!!!!! hyperbole, but, really, its just okay. it's fun! but, you know, i wouldn't pay more than 5 bucks for it if i were you.)

scott seward, Saturday, 18 June 2011 15:13 (twelve years ago) link

z.z. zamot - hot, hot, hot & more (echo records - 1989)

(one of those cases where i have to think very carefully about what i say about this record, because it will be the only recorded opinion on the internet. maybe. i don't actually look THAT hard for things. but, hey, it doesn't have a discogs entry or anything and no blogs care about it. i dig the house mix of this on here. way better than buster poindexter at any rate. and the dance mix is 8 minutes of goodness. i would totally play the dance mix for the salsa house crowd. wherever they are. i think they're in springfield.)

scott seward, Saturday, 18 June 2011 15:27 (twelve years ago) link

bliss - fun (wmot - 1981)

(now THIS is a boogie single you might want for more then five bucks. cuz it rules. bonus points if you get a copy on the rap city label.)

scott seward, Saturday, 18 June 2011 15:36 (twelve years ago) link

genuine parts - i don't care for you (pizazz - 1987)

(so great. yet another record that people won't be able to buy in my store cuz i love it too much. not that it really matters cuz i could probably put it in my dollar bin and it would sit there for a million years cuz people are lame. freestyle heaven. just wish the dub version was 20 minutes long instead of 4 minutes long. i'm so fucking greedy.)

scott seward, Saturday, 18 June 2011 15:59 (twelve years ago) link

bo boss - tequila (emergency - 1982)

(everyone needs this for the b-side "hao hao ha tequila". sooooooooooooooo good.)

companion - this is a test (barclay - 1981)

(this is a really strange single. just a weird vibe with all the stops and starts. its almost like its always just getting started for the length of the song! this is for boris midney completists. b-side "i feel delight" is just as strange. production is strange. so, if you like strange dance singles...)

scott seward, Saturday, 18 June 2011 16:47 (twelve years ago) link

DAF - brothers (illuminated - 1985)

(british pressing. not my fave DAF single. and i love DAF.)

clinton daniel - believe in yourself/love is the key (funk city - 1995)

(not feeling this at all. and i'm always willing to be surprised by mid-90's underground house stuff.)

nights of the round table vol. 1 (gossip records - 1995)

(mid-90's techno EP i can get behind. klm tracks are cool. jose nunez stuff is pretty fierce.)

scott seward, Saturday, 18 June 2011 17:26 (twelve years ago) link

jason tomi - cry for love (ligosa - 1991)

(i love the Doors sample on this track. it's seamless. not a a LOOK AT ME I'M A DOORS SAMPLE kinda thing, you know? its just another part of the song. works so well.)

scott seward, Saturday, 18 June 2011 18:04 (twelve years ago) link

alston becket cyrus - nanny revival (cocoa records - 1993)

(calypso house. or something like that. not my bag, really.)

ruffneck - everybody be somebody (maw - 1995)

(the deeper into the 90's you go, the less i dig masters at work-related stuff. hate to admit it. even the bostich sample doesn't move me. just listening to a todd terry single with yet another bostich sample and it hit a lot harder.)
