I would be happy to front a Stevie Wonder poll sometime down the line.

Josef K-Doe (WmC), Friday, 8 July 2011 15:14 (twelve years ago) link

Jamie, did you want to open up Prince voting while the Beatles results are happening, or are you going to wait until after Mark G's done?

Josef K-Doe (WmC), Friday, 15 July 2011 15:16 (twelve years ago) link

Looking at the Zep discography...it's pretty small, only 84 songs, not counting various live performances as separate entries. I'll probably count down the top 40 over two days.

Josef K-Doe (WmC), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 17:47 (twelve years ago) link

U2's about 200. I'm planning to countdown in one go, and probably a top 30 max.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 19 July 2011 17:52 (twelve years ago) link

maybe just do a top 20 for Zep? otherwise everything will place lol

i hate it when rats eat my bushels (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 17:53 (twelve years ago) link

40 may be too many, yeah...maybe top 25 in one day.

Josef K-Doe (WmC), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 17:57 (twelve years ago) link

Considering opening up the Stevie poll to include stuff he just wrote, as well.

ephendophile (Eric H.), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 17:58 (twelve years ago) link

Probably won't need 20 votes either - it's not like they don't have a ton of filler.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 19 July 2011 17:59 (twelve years ago) link

was looking forward to the madonna one most after the psbs one ffs.

second only to popcorn (or something), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 23:01 (twelve years ago) link

Volunteer for it! Lucky 13.

Josef K-Doe (WmC), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 23:52 (twelve years ago) link

ooh i don't know, seems like an awful lot of hard work...

second only to popcorn (or something), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 00:01 (twelve years ago) link

nah it's easy
step one: volunteer to do madonna poll
step two: get really angry, don't do poll after all, go out in a huff

iatee, Wednesday, 20 July 2011 00:03 (twelve years ago) link

considering that like half of Zep's discography are classic rock radio staples i wouldn't mind the countdown being as long as possible to give different stuff a chance to show up

drowning cool (some dude), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 00:03 (twelve years ago) link

agree

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Wednesday, 20 July 2011 00:05 (twelve years ago) link

xp i was that close to doing it iatee but thanks to your dickery no more. i hope you're pleased with yourself.

second only to popcorn (or something), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 00:09 (twelve years ago) link

second only to popcorn (or something), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 00:10 (twelve years ago) link

jesus christ, iatee

Josef K-Doe (WmC), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 00:16 (twelve years ago) link

Thanks, iatee, for convincing me that I made the right decision in withdrawing.

Because that kind of sniping and asshattery is ~exactly~ *why* I'm not running any polls.

Aphex Twin … in my vagina? (Karen D. Tregaskin), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 09:11 (twelve years ago) link

Not exactly unfair though, is it?

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 20 July 2011 09:29 (twelve years ago) link

Considering the shit that went down at me *before* I even withdrew, it was pretty obvious that no matter what you clusterfuckers throw at me now, it's still gonna be less than I would have had to deal with, if I had done it.

At least now, because I'm not committed to running a poll and giving the answers, I can tell the asshats to go fuck themselves, and walk away.

Now enough with the fucking meta and ad hominem shit already. It's boring, and it's clear that all you're doing is putting off other people who might have stepped in and taken up the polls instead.

Aphex Twin … in my vagina? (Karen D. Tregaskin), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 09:47 (twelve years ago) link

Can I just add:

I've been doing the Beatles one, and basically the haters have kept away. (I'll forgive the dude who called me 'barking' or whatever..), even though your original hater from that time said I was something close to an 'aspie' for wanting to do The Beatles.

Having said that, after getting in nearly 60 individual ballots, going "OMG" and compiling the results only to find I'd got it completely wrong and had to start again....

Anyway, to the haters, It Was Fun! Can't handle a bunch of people enjoying it? Don't come.

Right, now to unveil Ticket2Ride...

Mark G, Wednesday, 20 July 2011 09:59 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah can't say i've seen much AD HOMINEM HATIN in any of them so far?

PSB poll was pretty much sweetness and light all the way, guess they're just more civilised than other fans.

The multi-talented F.R. David (Billy Dods), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 11:43 (twelve years ago) link

Nobody ever hates in polls! I've done a couple, I get nothing but goodwill from them. Ideally you'll get some arguing and bad blood as the results appear, to give things an edge - but it's all bickering about taste, it'd be pretty bad form to have a go at the ringmaster.

The madonna usurper was the one guy I've seen who went way out of line but he got chased away en masse, it's kind of the opposite of how it's getting represented here.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 20 July 2011 12:20 (twelve years ago) link

^^ i just wanted to do carl craig but it won't work will it?

second only to popcorn (or something), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 22:11 (twelve years ago) link

sooooo.... P-Funk? I dunno if I would wanna do it, I guess it's pretty far off in the future (hypothetically). Would include Funkadelic, Parliament, Bootsy's Rubber Band, Fred Wesley and the Horny Horns, Parlet, Brides of Funkenstein, George Clinton solo, plus other assorted solo recs (Fuzzy, Bernie, Sweat Band, Jerome Brailey, Quasar). I asked this before and no one answered, but there seems to be some interest on the Prince poll...

..first zapp album..

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Thursday, 21 July 2011 19:27 (twelve years ago) link

Large, varied discography, lots of fans on ILM -- I think it would be a good one!

Josef K-Doe (WmC), Thursday, 21 July 2011 19:30 (twelve years ago) link

I tried picking a spot in the voting order that concided with my current work lull, but I underestimated how slowly these would go. Looks like Zep may hit me at my next deadline time. Anybody in the 7-8-9 slots want to switch with me? Or, Ismael, I could go next unless you're ready to roll with U2.

an excellent source of vitamins and minerals (WmC), Wednesday, 27 July 2011 18:24 (twelve years ago) link

Does anyone lower down the order want to swap with me? Looks like I'm due just about the time I'll be moving.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 27 July 2011 18:38 (twelve years ago) link

Actually, I do. The six spot should be perfect for me.

an excellent source of vitamins and minerals (WmC), Wednesday, 27 July 2011 18:40 (twelve years ago) link

I am willing to trade #5 for a 1st round draft pick and a 3rd round draft pick

an excellent source of vitamins and minerals (WmC), Wednesday, 27 July 2011 18:53 (twelve years ago) link

Only one way to find out! “20” – U2 TRACKS POLL (voting closes midday, Thursday 4 August) is now up and running.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 27 July 2011 20:22 (twelve years ago) link

lol at my typo -- I meant to say "the Beach Boys' top 10"

time to put it in hi geir (WmC), Monday, 1 August 2011 22:00 (twelve years ago) link

Stevie Wonder's going to be a big-ass fun-ass argument.

time to put it in hi geir (WmC), Monday, 1 August 2011 22:01 (twelve years ago) link

really? i feel like there's not much controversy about his best/not best material compared to a lot of these other artists.

some dude, Monday, 1 August 2011 22:02 (twelve years ago) link

ah, maybe not. Most voters are probably not going to favor the work of one era as much as I'll favor the 60s singles.

come on, someone do madonna. is guided by voices week a joke?

second only to popcorn (or something), Monday, 1 August 2011 23:41 (twelve years ago) link

having just heard arthur for the first time, and weeping with joy that i have such things left to discover, i nominate the kinks for a future poll--isn't 99% of their catalogue, at least the first ten years, like all buried treasure?

Iago Galdston, Tuesday, 2 August 2011 00:17 (twelve years ago) link

is guided by voices week a joke?

eff you. I know there are some people around here that are as serious about GBV as I am. I just hope they vote.
