they kinda both went down the drain at the same time

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 July 2011 05:44 (twelve years ago) link

well i would never use such harsh language wrt terius but i haven't been excited by a ne-yo song since like "mad"

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 July 2011 05:45 (twelve years ago) link

also the unintended side effect of "give me everything" is that ne-yo's next album is totally gonna sound like pitbull's album

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 July 2011 05:45 (twelve years ago) link

ne-yo did say an interview recently that that was the last housey song he's doing for now and he's swearing that style off, but yeah i'll believe it when i see it. anyway ne-yo has a great voice, the unreliability of his output hasn't really diminished that.

dread the flopson (some dude), Sunday, 17 July 2011 05:52 (twelve years ago) link

ne-yo didn't win this poll by a large enough margin

― dread the flopson (some dude), Sunday, July 17, 2011 1:38 AM (15 minutes ago)

come on son...what has ne-yo done in the last year that's worth a shit?

bros -izing bros (k3vin k.), Sunday, 17 July 2011 05:54 (twelve years ago) link

i'm prepared for a terius revival tbh - "fuck my brains out"/"schoolin life"/"1+1" have me excited, particularly the style he's going for on that former two

bros -izing bros (k3vin k.), Sunday, 17 July 2011 05:55 (twelve years ago) link

that's not a good metric since, as j0rdan said, they've had parallel declines, and i personally don't give a shit about much the-dream has done in the past year besides "Speechless" and "1 + 1"

dread the flopson (some dude), Sunday, 17 July 2011 05:57 (twelve years ago) link

oh so we're fronting on "yamaha", "schoolin life" and "don't make me wait" now

bros -izing bros (k3vin k.), Sunday, 17 July 2011 05:59 (twelve years ago) link

he didn't write "don't make me wait" fyi

jazmine writes all of her songs

[/jazmine stan]

^^

hm

bros -izing bros (k3vin k.), Sunday, 17 July 2011 06:06 (twelve years ago) link

i stan corrected

bros -izing bros (k3vin k.), Sunday, 17 July 2011 06:06 (twelve years ago) link

hey now

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 July 2011 06:10 (twelve years ago) link

sorry for pedantry rocking, but i genuinely didn't think "in the last year" included the-dream's album from 13 months ago

dread the flopson (some dude), Sunday, 17 July 2011 11:16 (twelve years ago) link

come on son...what has ne-yo done in the last year that's worth a shit?

are we really writing artists off completely based on one duff album?

lex pretend, Sunday, 17 July 2011 11:18 (twelve years ago) link

i mean it's not like i think libra scale was any good at all, but one subpar album ≠ OMG ~DECLINE~

as far as i'm concerned terius is still reliably excellent too

lex pretend, Sunday, 17 July 2011 11:20 (twelve years ago) link

that album had a few jams. also i'm a big fan of "Pretty Girl Rock" and "U Get On My Nerves"

dread the flopson (some dude), Sunday, 17 July 2011 11:27 (twelve years ago) link

yes in fact isn't k3v (and anyone with taste) also a big fan of those two?

lex pretend, Sunday, 17 July 2011 11:44 (twelve years ago) link

well there's fan and there's stan. i just feel like the only ne-yo stan around here sometimes.

dread the flopson (some dude), Sunday, 17 July 2011 11:48 (twelve years ago) link

I got your back

dayo, Sunday, 17 July 2011 11:56 (twelve years ago) link

Da-Yo

dread the flopson (some dude), Sunday, 17 July 2011 12:39 (twelve years ago) link

My Ne-Yo stanning is a few years past its peak.

bed bath and beyoncé (The Reverend), Sunday, 17 July 2011 12:44 (twelve years ago) link

everyone's is, really, but "Give Me Everything" at least momentarily has me back in love with his voice

dread the flopson (some dude), Sunday, 17 July 2011 12:47 (twelve years ago) link

"Give Me Everything" would be one of my favorite songs of the year if you swapped out Pitbull for Jeezy.

Evan R, Sunday, 17 July 2011 14:10 (twelve years ago) link

that's...a really weird idea, dude

dread the flopson (some dude), Sunday, 17 July 2011 14:46 (twelve years ago) link

It is, but there's some precedent for it. Jeezy's guest verses on Polow/Lloyd/Usher tracks have been really great; it's not his preferred subject matter, but the guy raps well about being in a club. Plus his hardness would undercut the song's sappiness.

Evan R, Sunday, 17 July 2011 14:56 (twelve years ago) link

eh, i've never heard him rap on a tempo like that, at least not well -- when he does do good fast flows it's usually still over a slow beat. i might prefer Jeezy overall but Pit's been rapping over uptempo club beats his whole career and "Give" is one of his best to date (even if his rapping's been better in the past). Jeezy is one of the last rappers i ever want to see on the Eurohouse bandwagon.

dread the flopson (some dude), Sunday, 17 July 2011 15:02 (twelve years ago) link

I can see where evan's coming from - jeezy's verses on love in this club/like you'll never seem again are really complementary imo

dayo, Sunday, 17 July 2011 18:33 (twelve years ago) link

oh damn spotify is great - a whole list of jeezy guest verses at your fingertips

dayo, Sunday, 17 July 2011 18:34 (twelve years ago) link

g+ invites?

generous doler out of lollies (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 17 July 2011 18:36 (twelve years ago) link

i guess i don't see how "give me everything" has much in common with "love in this club" (and i have never heard any version of "like you'll never see me again" with jeezy on it)

dread the flopson (some dude), Sunday, 17 July 2011 18:51 (twelve years ago) link

wait maybe you meant the "when i see u" remix? don't see the comparison there either anyway.

dread the flopson (some dude), Sunday, 17 July 2011 18:55 (twelve years ago) link

oh yeah it's 'when i see u'

dayo, Sunday, 17 July 2011 19:10 (twelve years ago) link

i'm intrigued by the idea

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 July 2011 19:36 (twelve years ago) link

the problem is that jeezy couldn't pull off the part in that song where pitbull sings

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 July 2011 19:36 (twelve years ago) link

challop alert

og "when i see u" > remix

bros -izing bros (k3vin k.), Sunday, 17 July 2011 19:39 (twelve years ago) link

^agreed

yes

dread the flopson (some dude), Sunday, 17 July 2011 19:46 (twelve years ago) link

what's the part where Pitbull sings? the "excuse me" part?

dread the flopson (some dude), Sunday, 17 July 2011 19:50 (twelve years ago) link

challop alert

og "when i see u" > remix

what's the part where Pitbull sings? the "excuse me" part?

― dread the flopson (some dude), Sunday, July 17, 2011 3:50 PM (3 minutes ago) Bookmark

yeah, this is the best part of the song

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 July 2011 19:54 (twelve years ago) link

also i don't know how the counter challop of the remix being better than the original even started, but it's not really even a discussion

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 July 2011 19:54 (twelve years ago) link

oh god are we doing COUNTER CHALLOPS now excuse me while i pull my fork out of the tofu and stick it in an electric outlet

generous doler out of lollies (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 17 July 2011 19:56 (twelve years ago) link

RIP forks, heaven needed a mod double agent

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 July 2011 20:56 (twelve years ago) link

lol

dread the flopson (some dude), Sunday, 17 July 2011 21:12 (twelve years ago) link

Speaking of counterchallops, am I the only one who thinks "Give Me Everything" more or less sucks balls?

bed bath and beyoncé (The Reverend), Sunday, 17 July 2011 22:43 (twelve years ago) link

Picked up that Monica album, Brainwasher, and it's pretty great. Thanks!

Also, the new Kelly Rowland album is deeeeee-lightful.

Evan R, Sunday, 17 July 2011 23:31 (twelve years ago) link

glad you like it!

did rowland leak or did you get an advance? How does it compare to Ms. Kelly - anything on the level of "Flashback"?

(I meant to post that last msg in the R&B thread; sorry if it was off topic)

It seems a logical continuation of Ms. Kelly; though clubbier. Honestly, no huge OMG standouts aside from Motivation, but no real duds either; it just holds together really well.

Evan R, Sunday, 17 July 2011 23:50 (twelve years ago) link

amazing to me how ships can vote ne-yo when dream wrote ALL OF how to be a lady!
