They totally dropped the ball on the music blog category - a lot of the best music blogs made it to the top 20, but the final 5 nominees leave something to be desired. I'm not really talking about Cha Cha Cha or Chromewaves - those are fine, but more about Moby (which isn't a fucking music blog!) and 75 Or Less (which is more of a webzine). Lameness. NYPLM in particular wuz ROBBED.

I have absolutelu no idea how I ended up nominated. I think it's because Tom Coates of plasticbag.org wrote about who to vote for on his website and included me as one of his favourites.

It probably was Tom's doing, James. I guess he has a lot of power in these things.

I figure, well, this Bloggies thing is mostly for a lot of folks who are primarily political/tech/personal blog fans, right? So of course the really hardcore music blogs get shafted, because the majority of voters don't read them and they go for who they know.

NYLPM was on the shortlist once or twice when these things started. It wasn't exactly overflowing with updates around the nominations time though. When we were first nominated (2000 or so) we were easily the best music weblog in the world (U2log won obv) but nowadays we're a lot lazier and there's a lot more competition - thanks if you did nominate us though.

Zabriskie Point returns after a few weeks off - snow, ice and the odd mountain keeping me away from the computer, then an act of pettiness from my hosting company strung out the break. Didn't realise you could stop for a bit, must do this again.

Well it's AT atommickbrane.com and hrrm, I fancied a bit of a change! Also I have no small icons which have ATOMMICK BRANE on them otherwise it would be back to the main title like a shot! (The one I currently have says "starry vs the atommickbrane" though)!

I've been holding off from doing this up until now, as my blog isn't really a music blog (although it certainly has its place)... but I've just re-launched a series of postings which first ran last year, called Which decade is Tops for Pops?

What I'm doing is comparing the Top 10 UK singles for this week in 1964, 1974, 1984, 1994 and 2004, looking at each chart position in turn over a series of ten postings. So today, I'm looking at all the Number 10s, tomorrow the Number 9s etc.

Each posting is accompanied with a short MP3 medley of the five songs for that day, which you can listen to, place in order of preference, and then vote on in the comments. I'll then be aggregating scores for each day, and plotting the fortunes of each decade day by day until all 50 songs have been evaluated. At the end of the 10 days, we will therefore have scientifically proved which decade truly is Tops for Pops! (Last year's winner: the 1970s.)

OK, so it's more than a little playful / whimisical / self-satirising, but it may amuse. As most of my readers are definitely non-ILM types (mine is firmly a "personal" blog), it would be interesting to have input from those who are.
