Just a reminder that my sometime-in-2012 was meant to be July or August. I'm guessing you've pushed me back to 2013 by now.

(the list in progress)

Here, have a prime number. I'm sure you'll be able to trade into a time slot that works for you.

L.P. Hovercraft (WmC), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 05:02 (twelve years ago) link

someone do the Cure, please! i would but can't right now.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 05:35 (twelve years ago) link

also New Order.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 05:36 (twelve years ago) link

I'll do the Cure, whenever there's a slot.

nate woolls, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 06:43 (twelve years ago) link

Would somebody like to do Radiohead or The Chemical Brothers at some point?

My heart goes out to the people of platitudes (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 07:14 (twelve years ago) link

Some dude, I kiss you! Thanks for helping out!

I for one am (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 07:54 (twelve years ago) link

OO yes, someone do The Fall! and swap with Kate Bush / move up the queue!!!

Mark G, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 08:14 (twelve years ago) link

i'm generally more intrigued by the idea of polling bands with lots of albums. i think the fall would work well in this regard, along with, say, sonic youth and possibly stereolab.

while i'm curious about a poll for the cure, they're one of those bands that at this stage i have really fixed views on, so i'd probably be less likely to be informed or enlightened by contrary viewpoints as to what their best songs might be.

charlie h, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 08:37 (twelve years ago) link

I'm not objecting, but Led Zep? Do they have enough tracks?

Mark G, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 08:53 (twelve years ago) link

I believe I counted 84-ish. The small discography will make it interesting, for sure!

L.P. Hovercraft (WmC), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 13:07 (twelve years ago) link

ha, I was wondering for some time if there's a need for a RH poll! doing polls sure looks like fun, I might give it a try.

V79, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 13:36 (twelve years ago) link

I'll have to trade with someone next summer. But it'll have to be with Paul Simon or the Kinks--I've got a prime number, and I do not plan on losing that.

clemenza, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 13:56 (twelve years ago) link

Considering quitting ILX, so I should bow out of doing this to be safe.

;_;

L.P. Hovercraft (WmC), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 15:17 (twelve years ago) link

eric, no!

i think i will do ABBA, just bcz they have a less, uh, unwieldy discography and the variation in results might be more interesting (assuming people vote for non-single tracks which they SHOULD)

clams cassingle (donna rouge), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 17:21 (twelve years ago) link

I would hereby like to lay claim to a Who songs poll. And I even have a title: "Hope I die before I get POLLED."

So this would be in...about a year?

shake it, shake it, sugary pee (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 17:25 (twelve years ago) link

When I get to Neil, I'm taking a solemn oath here and now not to call it "Heart of Polled." (The Who title really works, though.)

clemenza, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 17:28 (twelve years ago) link

Not quite a year, I'd say. xp

Will somebody step in to do the Stevie Wonder poll at its current position?

L.P. Hovercraft (WmC), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 17:28 (twelve years ago) link

"Hope I die before I get POLLED."

*slow clap*

Does that mean mine'll have to be Common PeoPOLL?

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 18:26 (twelve years ago) link

also New Order.

― Bee OK, Tuesday, August 16, 2011 8:36 AM (14 hours ago) Bookmark

I would love to see a New Order + Joy Division + side projects all covered in a single poll (i.e. NO + JD + The Other Two + Electronic + Revenge + Monaco + etc). I'm worried that my spreadsheet skills aren't up to snuff or else I'd volunteer to conduct the poll ...

NoTimeBeforeTime, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 20:39 (twelve years ago) link

was thinking an XTC one would be good, but maybe not enough voters to warrant it?

no one cares about P-Funk, obviously

Anyone else here already mentally dreaming up the cleverest pun on the word "POLL" for each band on the list?

("Hope I Die Before I Get Polled" is awesome BTW !!)

Census Polling Over Time!

(I win!)

Mark G, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 08:10 (twelve years ago) link

are we not doing a Steely Dan poll then?

everyone knows all the tracks, sure, but it would be interesting to see how they placed

merked, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 09:28 (twelve years ago) link

People are going to volunteer to do polls now based entirely on the quality of the title pun. I suddenly want to start polling Kennedy assassination theories ("Behind the Grassy Poll") and Hemingway novels ("For Whom the Bell Polls"), even though I think I've only read one of them.

clemenza, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 11:56 (twelve years ago) link

You could always start a Metallica poll with that last one, though "Master of Polling", "Le Poll Messiah" and "(Anesthesia) Polling Teeth" would also be acceptable.

I too would vote in an XTC poll. Might I suggest: "Train Running Low On Soul Poll"?

(multiple xposts)

shake it, shake it, sugary pee (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Wednesday, 17 August 2011 14:39 (twelve years ago) link

I figure the advantages to an XTC poll are that the catalog is REALLY broad and deep plus we could finally settle which is better, early punk XTC or late period pastoral XTC

that mellow wash of meh (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 17 August 2011 15:25 (twelve years ago) link

I'd be up for doing a Kraftwerk one if there was enough interest, but it'd have to be tacked on to the end of the list far off into next year.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 15:33 (twelve years ago) link

Ah, stick me down for Chemical Brothers at some point in the distant future.

My heart goes out to the people of platitudes (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Wednesday, 17 August 2011 21:51 (twelve years ago) link

Do Kraftwerk and Chemical Bros. have large enough discographies?

(the list in progress)

L.P. Hovercraft (WmC), Wednesday, 17 August 2011 22:03 (twelve years ago) link

if there are enough tracks for a Led Zeppelin poll, there are enough tracks for a Chemical Brothers poll

DALEKS OF GOD (DJP), Wednesday, 17 August 2011 22:04 (twelve years ago) link

I haven't totalled them up, but I'd guess Kraftwerk has about an equal number of songs to Led Zep, particularly if you include the three pre-fame albums (which I certainly intend to do). But, yeah, if there isn't enough interest I won't do one. I just thought they were an ILM beloved band that could produce some interesting results.

I initially thought of three bands I'd like to run polls for, but Neil Young and Guided by VOices were already taken. The third was Smashing Pumpkins, but a) I'm not sure that there would be enough voters and b) it would quickly be overrun with shit-talking haters.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 22:11 (twelve years ago) link

i would vote in a kraftwerk poll

Kanye's verse was edited out of the version played on Boston pop stations, I have no doubt this was true in other markets as well
