Jesus Anthony, unplug yer ears! The painful screech of The Rapture is about 5,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times more appealing than the testicleless whine of Limp Bizkit.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 15 September 2003 02:17 (twenty years ago) link

my copy of this turned up in the mail today and it's a "special edition". what's different to the regular version? is it just a different coloured cover like the Pulp special edition?

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 15 September 2003 07:14 (twenty years ago) link

Hmmm... Bits of it I really like but I'm not convinced overall. Is it a dancefloor-filling-set or is it an artistic statement because it appears to be trying to be both at certain stages and not fully managing to emerge on the other side as either.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 15 September 2003 07:32 (twenty years ago) link

Have heard the album, or most of it: they would be fantastic, except the singer is useless. He even ruins my enjoyment of I Need Your Love, which you wouldn't think possible - this perfect intro, and then that ungodly yowl, and ugh. I envy everyone who isn't hyper-sensitive to tuneless yelpy vocals.

cis (cis), Monday, 15 September 2003 09:06 (twenty years ago) link

yeah but if they had a "good singer" on I Need Your Love it wouldn't be too far off regular house music.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 15 September 2003 09:17 (twenty years ago) link

...and what's wrong with that?

cis (cis), Monday, 15 September 2003 09:27 (twenty years ago) link

come on who likes house music!

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 15 September 2003 09:32 (twenty years ago) link

You do, Ronan.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 15 September 2003 09:39 (twenty years ago) link

so nobody knows the answer to my question then?

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 15 September 2003 09:46 (twenty years ago) link

They do, they're just not telling you.

cis (cis), Monday, 15 September 2003 10:02 (twenty years ago) link

I know I do! I checked.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 15 September 2003 10:17 (twenty years ago) link

i'm seeing them on the 30th at Heaven. now i just need a hot date to accompany me...

stevem (blueski), Monday, 15 September 2003 10:27 (twenty years ago) link

the special edition should have a code or something that allows you to access special stuff on the website: remixes, different versions of tracks, a bunch of dv live footage, yadda yadda. except the microsite's not finished yet, because people are lazy.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 15 September 2003 12:49 (twenty years ago) link

I envy everyone who isn't hyper-sensitive to tuneless yelpy vocals.

This has made my day.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 15 September 2003 12:52 (twenty years ago) link

"Open Up Your Heart" should be elsewhere on the album. Or on another album. I like it, but not in between "Heaven" and "I Need Your Love"

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Monday, 15 September 2003 13:00 (twenty years ago) link

I like it! I played it twice in a row, which I never do. Singer isn't so great, but it doesn't really bother me.

Sean (Sean), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 05:08 (twenty years ago) link

four weeks pass...
their "Silent Morning" is not as good as the freestyle track of the same name by Noel.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 19:50 (twenty years ago) link

is "Heaven" as good as the Talking Heads track by the same name?

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 19:57 (twenty years ago) link

is the album as good as the gogogoairheart album?

*cough*

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 19:57 (twenty years ago) link

It's a different Heaven but it's also quite good. They already had a ballad on the album.

My friend who has the gogogoairheart album says there's only one good song! I've only heard one song from it but I agree that there is at least one good song

Sonny A. (Keiko), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 20:00 (twenty years ago) link

three weeks pass...
Should I go see them tonight?

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 6 November 2003 19:41 (twenty years ago) link

If I don't, I might go to a bar that's playing all Smiths/Morrissey records all night long. Those are my choices.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 6 November 2003 19:41 (twenty years ago) link

RAPTURE!!!!!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 6 November 2003 19:44 (twenty years ago) link

RATPURE!!!!

jed (jed_e_3), Thursday, 6 November 2003 19:51 (twenty years ago) link

jaymc you should go see them, it probably would be a lot more fun than listening to Smiths records all night long (whaddaya depressed or something?). Plus they're playing with VHS or Beta?, old Louisville friends of mine who are fun and disco-y, if you like that sorta thing.

chopped liver, Thursday, 6 November 2003 19:52 (twenty years ago) link

Haha, I think you're right. I've been in a dancey mood lately. Only as of right now, I know people who are going to the Smiths thing (it's at Club Foot), and I don't know anyone who's going to the Rapture. Time to make some phone calls, maybe.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 6 November 2003 19:55 (twenty years ago) link

Go see them, definitely dude, it's a wild night out. Really I cannot recommend it enough.

I can't find that Black Strobe remix of Sister Saviour on Slsk but I try on.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 6 November 2003 20:01 (twenty years ago) link

the only thing that has ever made me laugh on ILX is seeing "The Retpure" as a threat title. dead-on.

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Thursday, 6 November 2003 20:04 (twenty years ago) link

*"The Ratpure" !!! this plague is spreading. unfortunately my own typo did not make me laugh whatsoever. not even a chuckle.

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Thursday, 6 November 2003 20:05 (twenty years ago) link

jay where are you?? they're playing in minneapolis tomorrow and i am THERE (FAP if you see this twincitians, but you're all going already anyway, roight?)

typo acapulco (gcannon), Thursday, 6 November 2003 20:16 (twenty years ago) link

he's in Chicago, they're playing the Metro tonight.

chopped liver, Thursday, 6 November 2003 20:18 (twenty years ago) link

Uh, what Stence said.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 6 November 2003 20:23 (twenty years ago) link

re the Mpls show: I am going (for FREE) with a longtime friend so keep your eyes peeled for muttonchops, word

nate detritus (natedetritus), Thursday, 6 November 2003 20:37 (twenty years ago) link

I'm thinking of going in SF.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 6 November 2003 21:28 (twenty years ago) link

I suppose they're playing in LA again too. Might catch them if I can, certainly the last show was goodness.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 November 2003 21:30 (twenty years ago) link

i will be in sf and la. no casiotone this time, unfortunately.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 6 November 2003 21:32 (twenty years ago) link

are they playing philly? perhaps my glowing review from a newspaper in another state will get me in.

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 November 2003 21:33 (twenty years ago) link

december 12th. maybe you'll get in... if the disco santa is in a good mood next month.

ms.claus (laurenp), Thursday, 6 November 2003 21:38 (twenty years ago) link

yay, i can be reminded why i hate live music so much.

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 November 2003 21:40 (twenty years ago) link

"hey, jolly green, down in front."

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 November 2003 21:41 (twenty years ago) link

But jess, aren't you like, taller than everyone else?

Broheems (diamond), Thursday, 6 November 2003 21:42 (twenty years ago) link

I think he just pointed out the downside, see.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 November 2003 21:43 (twenty years ago) link

on the other hand, you might get a lump of coal.

(xpost)

evil reindeer (laurenp), Thursday, 6 November 2003 21:44 (twenty years ago) link

hence the "jolly green" (plus his clothes are made of leaves)

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 6 November 2003 21:44 (twenty years ago) link

these guys are good to see live, you can shake your hips

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 6 November 2003 21:45 (twenty years ago) link

when will i find a litle green sprout to call my own

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 November 2003 21:45 (twenty years ago) link

okay, that was just wrong

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 November 2003 21:45 (twenty years ago) link

and my hips are only good for breeding

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 November 2003 21:46 (twenty years ago) link

Ok, I'm slow obv. Because see, I'm kinda short so I'm usually the one grousing; I projected onto jess' statement.

Anyway, I was thinking of going to that Chicago show tonight but I've already been in that shithole (the Metro) once this week, and I realized I've only heard "House of Jealous Lovers" and I only really wanted to hang out for Tommie Sunshine's dj set afterwards anyway. Plus I have no $$.
