it's not about her voice being technically unamazing or whatever, it's just fucking grating

when will people realise that saying "x is the new punk" is a dead-end of an argument? punk sucked and was irredeemably unlistenable, ke$ha also sucks and is irredeemably unlistenable, yes, i agree

lex pretend, Thursday, 22 September 2011 18:47 (twelve years ago) link

i think i'm lost lex and maybe i missed your point. saying "punk sucked" isn't dead end?

epigram addict (outdoor_miner), Thursday, 22 September 2011 20:42 (twelve years ago) link

punk is massively more important for how it changed the way ppl approached music than it is for the perceived quality of the music it produced, so dismissing it with "punk sucked" doesn't actually work if you want to have a serious conversation

the tax avocado (DJP), Thursday, 22 September 2011 20:45 (twelve years ago) link

god i have party at a rich dude's house in my head and it makes me so happy

lex, k's voice occasionally lacks the "grating"ness esp in her ballads, though her ballads are typically her worst ones. her voice is actually v versatile (even without autotune!) and she has some impressive range.

do her vox in "animal" bother you? they're pretty pretty, very clean, and the song is fantastic
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBGCSTvLdNE

also "c u next tuesday" is as vocally non-grating as it gets tho the song as a whole isn't v good. "the harold song" is her best ballad (one of her best songs imo) but the chorus gets screamy. the verses are still wonderful and make me tear up. i'm trying to find a good comparison to what her voice sounds like/what she does with it when she gets softer, but all i can think of is "celtic." i know there's a point of reference somewhere but it's not coming to me.

would be remiss to forget "stephen" if we're talking about clean vox, but i know you hate the autotune.

eleven months pass...

New single is here:

http://soundcloud.com/keshafans/ke-ha-die-young-full

Good, but nothing really new.

LeRooLeRoo, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 05:19 (eleven years ago) link

this is dope

instafapper (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 16:41 (eleven years ago) link

the pre-chorus is better than the actual chorus

instafapper (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 16:41 (eleven years ago) link

Gone already :(

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 16:47 (eleven years ago) link

the lyric video is on youtube

instafapper (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 16:50 (eleven years ago) link

never get tired of urls that turn her name into 'ke-ha'

official lyric videos are getting so weirdly slick and expensive-looking

some dude, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 16:55 (eleven years ago) link

i mean she's even in there lip syncing here and there

some dude, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 16:56 (eleven years ago) link

yeah that sorta seems to defeat the purpose

instafapper (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 16:56 (eleven years ago) link

song is terrible, farrah abraham stole her swag

some dude, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 16:57 (eleven years ago) link

It's not terrible, it's okay. Just seems like rehashed Kesha on autopilot, though.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 17:00 (eleven years ago) link

if you stay away for that long and come back with something that boring as your lead single, the bar is raised to the point that mediocre is terrible

some dude, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 17:04 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, this song is just okay. i can't help but think that black sabbath with dio have already mastered a "die young" song

harpal, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 17:45 (eleven years ago) link

i am not enthusiastically one way or the other for this yet... perhaps a music video will tip the scales

teledyldonix, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 17:55 (eleven years ago) link

altho yes, i am a little underwhelmed compared to expectations for a lead single

teledyldonix, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 17:56 (eleven years ago) link

this just sounds like another Dr. Luke track. was Dr. Luke involved with "Good Feeling"? it sounds like that. somewhat surprising that lack of prominent autotune neither works for or against it.

anyway, it's kind of nice.

I don't even know wtf this band sounds like I'm just trollin (fffv), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 18:02 (eleven years ago) link

hmmm yes, it does sound like "good feeling" -- which dr. luke did produce

teledyldonix, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 18:04 (eleven years ago) link

Kind of reminds me of Starships, which is probably the only song of the last year or so that will get more play at DC gay places than this.

skip, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 18:09 (eleven years ago) link

Heard the new one for the first time on the radio today right after that awful Owl City/CRJ song. It started off sounding basically exactly the same, and then there was a chorus about dying young and I was like whaaa and then I realized it was Ke$ha and it was almost like an antidote to the song I had just heard. I like it.

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 19:04 (eleven years ago) link

i don't expect a sophomore album's lead single to a pop album to ever break new ground, though this doesn't sound quite like her other big leads

luke and co seem totally uninspired tho with that dance breakdown. love the verses, reminds me of fall out boy in a way

zachylon (zachlyon), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 19:09 (eleven years ago) link

I think the chorus is pretty good. The verses sound like "Starships" and "Wild Ones".

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 27 September 2012 15:48 (eleven years ago) link

lol

teledyldonix, Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:26 (eleven years ago) link

Everything about the URL is perfect ("tag=dirt-bag" prob my favourite unexpected ending), I'm not going to spoil it by reading the article.

tish tosch (seandalai), Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:46 (eleven years ago) link

i really, really like "die young"

lil dirk (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 22:28 (eleven years ago) link

when "Teenage Dream" came out I thought the "dance until we die" bit could've made a good refrain for a song on its own, but I didn't think it actually would be recycled on another Dr. Luke track years later

some dude, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 22:35 (eleven years ago) link

one month passes...

so i think this has finally leaked in full

"c'mon" is pretty great

monotony, Monday, 26 November 2012 13:13 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, it's all pretty great? disappointed in the lyrics changes in the final version of the song with the strokes but that's some a++ indiebro trolling.

lot more mixing up her K$ party side and the 'animal'-type stuff within songs, but overall it's a pretty solid album, i think.

much better than i expected after 'die young' (which has already grown on me, so, you know)

twinkin' and drinkin' and ready to fly (Alex in Montreal), Monday, 26 November 2012 22:02 (eleven years ago) link

i'm not listening to the leaks but please tell me she didn't change the 'dancing with my hand' line

I have done bad. I love my pj's. (zachlyon), Monday, 26 November 2012 22:04 (eleven years ago) link

:(

twinkin' and drinkin' and ready to fly (Alex in Montreal), Monday, 26 November 2012 22:04 (eleven years ago) link

my favourite verse is indeed gone. sigh.

i don't think you understand / i've been dancing with my hand / now i think i need a man RIP

twinkin' and drinkin' and ready to fly (Alex in Montreal), Monday, 26 November 2012 22:05 (eleven years ago) link

i sing it overtop the current version.

the new instrumentation is pretty boss though.

twinkin' and drinkin' and ready to fly (Alex in Montreal), Monday, 26 November 2012 22:05 (eleven years ago) link

NOOOOOOO that was the best and i just knew that was going to happen

I have done bad. I love my pj's. (zachlyon), Monday, 26 November 2012 22:06 (eleven years ago) link

"Only Wanna Dance With You" is NYC circa 2002 way too late.

two months pass...

i guess "love into the light" is like her doing a ballad? sorta shocking but i really like it

this album overall is p good

johnny crunch, Friday, 1 February 2013 14:05 (eleven years ago) link

three months pass...

i think people are afraid to admit to like ke$ha for some reason, she is less respectable than other pop stars. but Warrior is really solid. c'mon, especially, is pretty awesome. it captures adolescent "yearning" much better than any of the katy perry songs that, i think, go for a similar effect. the problem is that every ke$ha song has at least a few especially dumb lyrics that don't succeed in being charming. good thing i am able to zone out and not hear the lyrics pretty easily...

Treeship, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 02:10 (eleven years ago) link

cmon, all that matters, love into the light = stone cold classics

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 03:06 (eleven years ago) link

i love c'mon (set me free ke$ha) but most of warrior was really disappointing for me. "gold trans am"'s fun. loved all the stuff on the debut/ep about being poor: "we take the drinks from the tables when you get up and leave em", etc.. loved the b-side about wanting to fuck her history teacher.

taylor swift's ke$ha isn't as fun as her paramore.

the white queen and her caustic judgments (difficult listening hour), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 03:13 (eleven years ago) link

"Gold Trans Am" is the only I kept.

A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 03:14 (eleven years ago) link

"this song makes me want to have sex in my car"... gold trans am is classic. and yeah, i mean, obviously the album is dodgy and inconsistent. i have a bad habit of declaring an album "good" or "solid" if it has more than three songs i like on it, which leads to confusion sometimes.

Treeship, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 03:19 (eleven years ago) link

Her music sounds like Uffie for people who shop at Walmart.

"C'Mon" was the first single i liked, also her first to miss the top 10. i think she's maybe done.
