PREDICTION
black milk/danny brown > LEP > 2 Chainz > freddie gibbs > Wale > ASAP Rocky > Soulja Boy
:O :O :O

2 chainz is the only one i'm definitely checking for but wale is the only one i'd cross the street to avoid hearing

Well the Black Milk/Danny Brown can already be heard in full. It's kinda bitty in that's there's like three proper songs on there. You can feel Danny getting a head of steam up and then it's into more mini instrumentals. "LOL" is dope though

ASAP Rocky - this should be pretty good, everything I've heard has been solid - the whole houston flow, screwed & chopped hook on every song could get tiresome thoughFreddie Gibbs - don't know about this since Lil Lody is producing a lot of it, I like Gibbs though and "Rob Me A Nigga" is one of my fav songs this year (and that's on here), so definitely gonna listen to this. should have solid rapping at the very least. LEP Bogus Boys - not heard anything from this but i liked their last mixtapeWale - this is already leaked, it's alright from what i've heard, nice production2 Chainz - should be dope though it definitely has the worst title out of all of theseBlack Milk & Danny Brown - don't care abt thisSoulja Boy - dunno

2 chainz has the worst title but by far the best cover art lmao
― The boyboy young jess (D-40), Sunday, 30 October 2011 00:40 (twelve years ago) link
i dont think ASAP owns his tracks enough as a rapper, there's some good song construction going on but the rapping feels fairly anonymous
I like LEP but I could see this going either way, sometimes they can underachieve. i have a soft spot for dudes though / hometown bias
freddie gibbs' stock has climbed with me, but we'll see, im looking for more dimension from him as a person; i feel like i don't really know the dude
wale, im hoping this has a couple pop songs like 600 benz or that way that make up for it being wale, who is totally a boring rapper
2 chainz i'm really undecided on, he has some really good songs but considering he's dominating atlanta in the wake of waka/gucci/jeezy/t.i. it feels like a pretty big step down for atlanta
black milk & danny brown -- i like how danny raps, i dont always like his production
soulja boy -- his last tape was straight trash minus like one song, feel like people keep bringing him up as a joke
― The boyboy young jess (D-40), Sunday, 30 October 2011 00:44 (twelve years ago) link
2 chainz sometimes says actually-clever things & other times hes like "when we had sex I was in the Mercedes / and I ain't crazy but if that's my baby then we gonna have to name the lil' baby Mercedes!!!!" and hammers it home like its a punchline instead of super lame, and im like, this is the guy everyone says has got next?
his buzz feels real, but its almost like he just happened to be on the bench when Atlanta needed someone to take it over, and he'd just changed his name to something more marketable, so he took the role by default. i dunno
that said he does have a bunch of great songs so

"i should have sex in a coffin cuz i'm killin these hoes"

when's the new King Louie out btw? Also anticipating the Fat Trel album
― Number None, Sunday, 30 October 2011 00:50 (twelve years ago) link
i always thought he had some great hilarious lines back on the first playaz circle album or even on random DTP joints before that but i am kind of amazed by his ascendance, dude definitely doesn't look/seem like a star or anything. also lol @ a billboard article about him i read today saying he's 27 years old.
― mylo & xylotis (some dude), Sunday, 30 October 2011 00:51 (twelve years ago) link
fat trel is the first d.c. rapper gettin played on local radio in a long time that i can stand but i haven't really checked him out too much yet
― mylo & xylotis (some dude), Sunday, 30 October 2011 00:52 (twelve years ago) link
i dunno i just saw an interview with him where they were talking about pushing it back & getting it up on itunes, & dropping a mixtape of freestyles instead. kind of frustrating but i think for a lot of people there is a pretty big back catalog to get into. and the #manupbandup mixtape is definitely a well-rounded collection. the only track i wish they'd included is 'party like her' xxxp
― The boyboy young jess (D-40), Sunday, 30 October 2011 00:53 (twelve years ago) link
thats re: louie.
Fat Trel is really good, I know Noz is all about "No Secrets" but I listen more to "April Foolz" from this year
― The boyboy young jess (D-40), Sunday, 30 October 2011 00:54 (twelve years ago) link
"Bitches Start Klokkin" and "Rollin" are recent essentials re: Fat Trel
― Number None, Sunday, 30 October 2011 00:54 (twelve years ago) link
Definitely been digging into the Louie back catalogue though

he also had a tape at one point called 'heartbreak kid' but it appears to have been erased from the internetsthere is little to no repeated material on the first few tapes. i recommend the #manupbandup best-of first, it's a more well rounded collection. Although the V-Dub one has my favorite track off Dope & Shrimp (track 4)

asap rocky - this could actually be pretty great. feel like there is a lot at stake after the relative flop of tyler's album (see: his 3m$ record deal)2 chainz - high probability this will contain some very dumb music. look forward to listening to itlep bogus boys - seem to be on the receiving end of some cool production. this is a commercial release?soulja boy - deandre way was surprisingly good, & tho i am a soulja boy fan he is not really an artist whose full lenghts i aspire to spend my time listening toblack milk danny brown - probably will never listen to this, i guess i suspect it might be okfreddie gibbs - highly doubt i will ever hear this, not an artist i am in interested in at all

A$AP is a way better pop prospect out of the gate than anyone on Odd Future. He doesn't have the homophobia/misogyny of those guys, just has a vaguely modish sound and is a competent rapper. I like him.

kind of funny not just how true this is but how crucial the name change is. if he were still Tity Boi, Future would probably be the hottest atlanta rapper right now
― flopson, Sunday, 30 October 2011 01:33 (twelve years ago) link
ASAP Rocky - i haven't really been into any of his songs after "peso"... i mean he has like... 3.5 minutes of great recorded music if you take into account that 20 seconds of "purple swag" is just "peso" slowed down. so idk, i think he has a pretty good idea of who he wants to be as an artist, but his talent as a writer needs to catch up to that. the song from a few weeks ago that was him rapping over a piano beat was p lame. and "bass" is just a rehash.
Freddie Gibbs - funny, i was just thinking today about how ridiculous it is that this guy "signed" with jeezy or whatever. i mean, jeezy can't even get his own career off the ground, and now he's supposed to do something for freddie gibbs? i don't think i'll be listening to this album
LEP Bogus Boys - suspect this will be pretty solid if unspectacular. as it goes.
Wale - ha, obviously this is going to be pretty bad. i haven't seen any of the features or production on this but i can't imagine caring about this album at all. his rapping is pretty bothersome.
2 Chainz - uhh 2 chainz is cool def. probably not good enough a rapper to carry a tape front to back but i bet they'll be some banger on here. idk \(o_O)/
Black Milk & Danny Brown - heard this was only okay
Soulja Boy - will prob have one classic song to add to his 2011 greatest hits collection. i think we're up to like 6 songs from this year.

whole tape has such a playful beat selection

ASAP Rocky : not a great rapper but seems able to make good songs. i'm interested to see what happens.
Freddie Gibbs : midwestcaddillacmuzik was dope, then his output beacame pretty bad, the new tape has some good producers. i'm interested to see what happens.
LEP Bogus Boys : never really cared for them, but maybe they'll make a tape i'll listen for a week.
Wale : don't care
2 Chainz : actually the project i'm more interested in. trap-a-velli & codeine cowboys were good mixtapes, expecting the same for the new one. While not the most skilled rapper his style definitely stands out. I like it.
Black Milk & Danny Brown : heard it wasn't really good. Not gonna check.
Soulja Boy : don't really care

"rush hour" off the lep with meek mill leaked, it's good but without a better chorus or bigger beat it sounds like album track material to me.
