Inspector Norse is awesome. Didn't get into Swing Star as much but I gotta try to get that EP I think.

J0rdan S., Monday, 9 January 2012 16:48 (twelve years ago) link

haha is any of the press release true?

Terje Olsen is the grandson of the legendary astromechanic Jens Olsen, arguably the greatest clockmaker who ever lived. Although Jens was a Dane, his family eventually relocated to the remote Antarctic island Bouvetøya (Bouvet Island in English), where Terje’s father studied the mating rituals of the seal. It was a strange existence. “We only lived there for a few years,” recalls Terje, “And there was nothing to do other than hunt seals or work on my grandfather’s clocks. It gave me a thirst for mechanics which I brought into music when I built my own synthesisers. And a love of seal products.” Terje refuses to wear any coat not made out of seal and has the largest collection of penguin-skin hats in the world.

He returned to live in a remote Norwegian island. “When you live in a population of only 300 people, you learn to amuse yourself,” laughs Terje. “But something strange happened: Kraftwerk came to record the local seals. It was odd having these four Germans, but in return for studio time I showed them several seal curing techniques.” While Kraftwerk’s opera We Are The Seals still lies unused, it inspired Terje to build his first synthesizer.

That is a fantastic press release.

The switch-up midway through Inspector Norse is just :D

So it turns out Swing Star is pretty fantastic too:

hey got a question for digital DJs out there (guess this thread is as good as any) ... is Juno Download always way cheaper than Beatport?? "It's the Arps" is like $10 on Beatport for the full EP on 320 MP3s and only $4.50 on Juno. Just curious if that is typical.

dmr, Thursday, 19 January 2012 16:10 (twelve years ago) link

I was surprised by that as well.

skip, Thursday, 19 January 2012 16:21 (twelve years ago) link

I'm usually a vinyl guy but have been dabbling in Traktor for the last year or so (and they give you a free gift certificate at Beatport to start you off so that's where I've been going for dance music MP3s)

dmr, Thursday, 19 January 2012 16:24 (twelve years ago) link

beatport is usually more expensive than other sites ime

jabba hands, Thursday, 19 January 2012 16:49 (twelve years ago) link

the popularity of beatport has always baffled me, besides the traktor gift certificate are there does it have any other selling pts?

Inspector Norse on nonstop repeat for the past week, basically

it's better than Snooze 4 Love imo. the big buildup-release part is so euphoric.

dmr, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:43 (twelve years ago) link

Also think Inspector Norse is better than Snooze 4 Love, though my fav bit is right after the buildup release, at 4.07 where the filter closes

Cashmere Combabe, Friday, 27 January 2012 13:28 (twelve years ago) link

the first seconds of inspector norse always bring a smile to my face. can't remember the last time a song did that to me

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Friday, 27 January 2012 13:41 (twelve years ago) link

relentlessly upbeat even by his own standards, he's playing homoelectric next week, v psyched

ogmor, Saturday, 28 January 2012 12:16 (twelve years ago) link

dope

Aerosol, Friday, 3 February 2012 13:43 (twelve years ago) link

Don't get me wrong, I love Inspector Norse and find it really jubilant, but it's not too far away from my personal twee border--a little too close to goofy. Whereas Snooze 4 Love is more restrained and austere, and feels like it has more depth.

Clarke B., Friday, 3 February 2012 15:10 (twelve years ago) link

I'm not sure I've got the hang of these tracks yet. They're quite fun, but I think I'd need to hear them in a dancefloor situation to truly appreciate them.

Sounds Of The Baskervilles (dog latin), Friday, 3 February 2012 15:15 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, I love Inspector Norse, especially that weird moment about 3:35 or where he goes to another chord, the filters kick in and it goes to a whole nother level, like the camera goes shift-tilt ... or that moment in the Capsule "World of Fantasy" video where they take off. It's a great track - but Snooze 4 Love has something kind of sublime that raises it above almost everything else I've heard in the past year.

Drexciya's Midnight Runners (Wheal Dream), Friday, 3 February 2012 15:20 (twelve years ago) link

xpost: I think you have to see it like an italo track (which it basically is). that the greatness lies in the fun-ness and "goofiness" of it.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Friday, 3 February 2012 15:21 (twelve years ago) link

otm

Number None, Friday, 3 February 2012 15:28 (twelve years ago) link

Good point re: Italo, and I feel that--the bouncy octave-jumping synth bass in particular. I suppose my Italo preferences run more to the super-moody, "night"-themed, desperation-and-longing stuff more than the overtly goofy stuff... Still an awesome track (and the B-side of the 12" is nothing to sneeze at either).

Clarke B., Friday, 3 February 2012 15:28 (twelve years ago) link

seeing him tonight for the first time. he was just in our local wrecka stow too!

piscesx, Friday, 3 February 2012 15:31 (twelve years ago) link

is it just me or does track 2 on arps, "myggsommer," sound like a martin denny/exotica track?

the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Friday, 3 February 2012 15:43 (twelve years ago) link

I think Norse is fun and easy to mix into. I can think of many tracks that's perfect to be mixed with it. Also one of those tracks that's perfect for changing the dynamic/direction of a set.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Friday, 3 February 2012 15:55 (twelve years ago) link

i wish norse was 20 minutes long

the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Friday, 3 February 2012 15:55 (twelve years ago) link

It actually is a bit short

the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Friday, 3 February 2012 16:08 (twelve years ago) link

J0rdan S., Friday, 3 February 2012 16:09 (twelve years ago) link

the length is perfect for me.

"Inspector Norse" tore the roof off of Trouw tonight at Nuno dos Santos/Patrice Bäumel's new clubnight. Fantastic to hear it on a great soundsystem surrounded by hundreds of excited dancers!
