I've been holding off from doing this up until now, as my blog isn't really a music blog (although it certainly has its place)... but I've just re-launched a series of postings which first ran last year, called Which decade is Tops for Pops?

What I'm doing is comparing the Top 10 UK singles for this week in 1964, 1974, 1984, 1994 and 2004, looking at each chart position in turn over a series of ten postings. So today, I'm looking at all the Number 10s, tomorrow the Number 9s etc.

Each posting is accompanied with a short MP3 medley of the five songs for that day, which you can listen to, place in order of preference, and then vote on in the comments. I'll then be aggregating scores for each day, and plotting the fortunes of each decade day by day until all 50 songs have been evaluated. At the end of the 10 days, we will therefore have scientifically proved which decade truly is Tops for Pops! (Last year's winner: the 1970s.)

OK, so it's more than a little playful / whimisical / self-satirising, but it may amuse. As most of my readers are definitely non-ILM types (mine is firmly a "personal" blog), it would be interesting to have input from those who are.

I run The Tofu Hut, a weekdaily updated musicblog with mp3 rarities, personal faves and whatnot.

Woebot says I'm "high profiling".
Flux says it's "great stuff".
My mom told me "get a job".

Stop by. We're doing Baaba Maal today.

Nothing to do with me, but Everett True has a blog: planbmag.com/blogs/everett. It's nice to see a magazine website - however non-mainstream - that gets it right. If you read this Everett, thanks.

Just stumbled across this thread by accident, but hey, any excuse to plug my new blog.

It's called Letters From Laputa. It's not specifically about music, but what the hell?

Marketing = Good.

That's awesome, NV. As a scientist, I am greatly looking forward to your first hand account of Laputan scientific endeavours. I never could figure out how they were planning to break down feces into its constituent foods, hopefully you can provide more information on the subject for us all ....

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 1 May 2004 13:49 (twenty years ago) link

Apparently, nearly all the skits on Laputan science in Gulliver's Travels were based on real experiments carried out by members of the Royal Academy. Including the faeces one. < Gag >

Troubled HYPHEN Diva.

Same blog, different URL. (Owing to undignified set-to with unscrupulous and vindictive cowboy hosting providers.) Only tangentially music-related, and probably a bit too Fifty Quid Bloke for most of you lot, but I like to feel it has its moments of relevance.

Anthony Is Right is currently getting a nice amount of hits from Sasha Frere-Jones's site. My inner high schooler (who credits SF-J's review of the first Timbaland album for making him want to find Prince's "Ballad of Dorothy Parker") is doing backflips.
