Finest" is a rote for-the-ladies love-rap, but it also features P singing Kelis and Richard X's "Finest Dreams" on the hook, which is just weird enough to be endearing.

what do dudes think of the pitchfork-approved and diplo-mixed paper route gangstaz? the diplo remixes are pretty corny (weezer sample lol) but some of the beats are pretty nice:

that weezer sample is a non-diplo remix i think and it's one of their best songs. you should try and find the g-side album "starshipz & rocketz" (we talk about it some in that thread). it's produced by the same dudes who do the prgz stuff

i basically agree w/ what noz said about that mixtape which is -- if you're trying to highlight a crew thats known for its beats rather than its rapping why would u release a CD where you remix their rappers??

Flex - I think I mentioned this here before but I don’t really understand the point of that tape. A bunch of inferior remixes of tracks where the primary appeal was the production. It’s like whats next the Group Home remix project?

I mean, I get that knowing Diplo probably expands their extra-bama audience by like 100x but that doesn’t mean much musically. Diplo is hot but he isn’t half the producer that BB are. Business wise I don’t think it’s very smart for them to be chasing the hipster/fader/blogosphere dollars just yet either. They need to be solidifying a core audience right now, because hipster love is the most fleeting.

my theory is diplo and benzi are crewing with dudes that will allow them to throw around the term "bama" the same way some crackers with black friends think it's ok for them to drop n-bombs

it's just what they do, it's how they put artists on and give them their stamp. they take people in (south rakkas crew, santogold, mia, etc) and make mixes for them and these mixes always involved a lot of ambitious remixing. that's diplo's MO and in order to get his cosign and that bump of exposure that's what happens. yeah it's different this time because they are known for their beats but it's not like they stripped the whole thing of the beats, there's only a couple remixes on it. it's a collaboration that's all.

yeah...i scratched my head the same way when they signed Blaq Starr and did a bunch of shitty remixes of one of his weakest songs.

DECATUR -- The rapper known as Gucci Mane turned himself in Thursday night after a murder warrant was issued for him in a May 10 shooting in which a man later was found dead.

Mane, 25, whose real name is Radric Davis, was notified on Wednesday that he was wanted by DeKalb County authorities for the shooting of Henry Lee Clark, said his Atlanta attorney, Dennis Scheib.

Mane was in New York on Thursday for a show and returned Thursday night, Scheib said. Mane then turned himself in to DeKalb County authorities.

"He said, 'Hey, I'll come down' -- he's not trying to avoid it," Scheib said.

The attorney said the shooting was in self-defense and that Mane was unaware that someone had been injured in the gunfight.

Mane was in a DeKalb County home with a woman on May 10 when five men entered with guns and duct tape, his lawyer said. Mane traded fire with the men, who later fled, Scheib said.

The identities of those men, other than Clark, were unknown.

Associates of Clark, 28, looked for him after he went missing. They found his body in a wooded DeKalb area, and apparently called police.
The arrest could affect Davis' career although it was too early to tell if the repercussions will be negative or positive. In many instances, the profile of stars in the hip hop/rap world is boosted during brushes with the law.

At least two people were holding Gucci Mane posters outside the DeKalb jail as Davis was being escorted in the facility.
