Finest" is a rote for-the-ladies love-rap, but it also features P singing Kelis and Richard X's "Finest Dreams" on the hook, which is just weird enough to be endearing.

this is SOS band's "the finest", not that whiteboy shit dumbass

vibe magazine's list of the nine worst kanye songs:

1.) Jay-Z - "Swagga Like Us"
2.) Michael Jackson - "Billy Jean 2008"
3.) Kanye West - "Kanye's Workout Plan"
4.) Kanye West - "Bring Me Down"
5.) Kanye West - "I Still Love H.E.R."
6.) Kanye West - "Impossible"
7.) Jay-Z - "Do U Wanna Ride"
8.) Kanye West - "Drunk & Hot Girls"
9.) Jay-Z - "Bonnie & Clyde '03"

opinions4usic (deej), Thursday, 8 January 2009 20:28 (fifteen years ago) link

i kinda think 'workout plan' gets shitted on unfairly but im so tired of that song now that i dont really have much of an urge to defend it

opinions4usic (deej), Thursday, 8 January 2009 20:30 (fifteen years ago) link

the workout plan video with fonz bentley verse is classic

jordan s (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 8 January 2009 20:33 (fifteen years ago) link

i always liked "bring me down" but he spit that same verse basically on rap city way before LR over the "stand up" beat and it's way doper

jordan s (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 8 January 2009 20:35 (fifteen years ago) link

SLU and Drunk aside that list is pretty rong

some dude, Thursday, 8 January 2009 20:36 (fifteen years ago) link

i mean some of those songs are pretty mediocre but by no means belong on a worst list...and even the biggest 808s defender should be able to think 1 or 2 songs from it that deserve to be on that list.

some dude, Thursday, 8 January 2009 20:37 (fifteen years ago) link

what's billie jean 2008 like? yeah "see you in my nightmares" is def in the worst 10 kanye songs

"New Workout Plan" is a really fucked up song to consider when you remember that his mother died during weight-loss surgery.

jordan s (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 8 January 2009 21:02 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah I don't mind his song but Yung LA seems possibly pretty annoying and it'll suck if he gets to drop an album before all the dope artists on Grand Hustle this year

some dude, Thursday, 8 January 2009 21:04 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah agreed. afaik dro floated some singles out to radio (according to wikipedia at least) but nothing's caught on so we'll see. would be a damn shame if he couldn't get an album out

btw this mixtape is called BLACK BOY, WHITE BOY as in black boy swag and white boy tags

what do dudes think of the pitchfork-approved and diplo-mixed paper route gangstaz? the diplo remixes are pretty corny (weezer sample lol) but some of the beats are pretty nice:

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 8 January 2009 22:06 (fifteen years ago) link

i think we all pretty much like those guys a lot - we basically have a thread on them rollin rollin rollin we aint slept in weeks

that weezer sample is a non-diplo remix i think and it's one of their best songs. you should try and find the g-side album "starshipz & rocketz" (we talk about it some in that thread). it's produced by the same dudes who do the prgz stuff

jordan s (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 8 January 2009 22:09 (fifteen years ago) link

oh duh i recognized that thread title when i heard it in the song

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 8 January 2009 22:10 (fifteen years ago) link

i basically agree w/ what noz said about that mixtape which is -- if you're trying to highlight a crew thats known for its beats rather than its rapping why would u release a CD where you remix their rappers??

opinions4usic (deej), Thursday, 8 January 2009 22:15 (fifteen years ago) link

noz

Flex - I think I mentioned this here before but I don’t really understand the point of that tape. A bunch of inferior remixes of tracks where the primary appeal was the production. It’s like whats next the Group Home remix project?

I mean, I get that knowing Diplo probably expands their extra-bama audience by like 100x but that doesn’t mean much musically. Diplo is hot but he isn’t half the producer that BB are. Business wise I don’t think it’s very smart for them to be chasing the hipster/fader/blogosphere dollars just yet either. They need to be solidifying a core audience right now, because hipster love is the most fleeting.

opinions4usic (deej), Thursday, 8 January 2009 22:18 (fifteen years ago) link

my theory is diplo and benzi are crewing with dudes that will allow them to throw around the term "bama" the same way some crackers with black friends think it's ok for them to drop n-bombs

some dude, Thursday, 8 January 2009 22:24 (fifteen years ago) link

it's just what they do, it's how they put artists on and give them their stamp. they take people in (south rakkas crew, santogold, mia, etc) and make mixes for them and these mixes always involved a lot of ambitious remixing. that's diplo's MO and in order to get his cosign and that bump of exposure that's what happens. yeah it's different this time because they are known for their beats but it's not like they stripped the whole thing of the beats, there's only a couple remixes on it. it's a collaboration that's all.

aggy new year (surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally), Thursday, 8 January 2009 22:32 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah...i scratched my head the same way when they signed Blaq Starr and did a bunch of shitty remixes of one of his weakest songs.

some dude, Thursday, 8 January 2009 22:36 (fifteen years ago) link

i was gonna start a new thread about this but i guess it's not worth it: the basis is "lol @ news articles using rappers' stage names as if it were their real names"

i.e. (btw this article is from 05 - don't freakout gucci fanboys)

DECATUR -- The rapper known as Gucci Mane turned himself in Thursday night after a murder warrant was issued for him in a May 10 shooting in which a man later was found dead.

Mane, 25, whose real name is Radric Davis, was notified on Wednesday that he was wanted by DeKalb County authorities for the shooting of Henry Lee Clark, said his Atlanta attorney, Dennis Scheib.

Mane was in New York on Thursday for a show and returned Thursday night, Scheib said. Mane then turned himself in to DeKalb County authorities.

"He said, 'Hey, I'll come down' -- he's not trying to avoid it," Scheib said.

The attorney said the shooting was in self-defense and that Mane was unaware that someone had been injured in the gunfight.

Mane was in a DeKalb County home with a woman on May 10 when five men entered with guns and duct tape, his lawyer said. Mane traded fire with the men, who later fled, Scheib said.

The identities of those men, other than Clark, were unknown.

Associates of Clark, 28, looked for him after he went missing. They found his body in a wooded DeKalb area, and apparently called police.
The arrest could affect Davis' career although it was too early to tell if the repercussions will be negative or positive. In many instances, the profile of stars in the hip hop/rap world is boosted during brushes with the law.

At least two people were holding Gucci Mane posters outside the DeKalb jail as Davis was being escorted in the facility.

Mane is known for several hit songs, including "So Icy," "Trap House" and "Black Tee."
