How the FUCK did Katy Perry 'I Kissed a Girl' get in my playlist?? Seriously?? I don't even LIKE that song, much less have it on my fucking IPOD.

really enjoyed the funk compilation. Except being reminded of how awful Betty Davis is!

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 12 January 2009 19:08 (fifteen years ago) link

Here is my last.fm dream: I would like the ability to merge songs. For example, I have a ton of plays of "Perfect Exceeder" and a few plays of "(Perfect) Exceeder". Since I am obsessed with my stats I want to be able to rename the latter to match the former so my starts accurately represent the number of times I listened to the song. of course, last.fm as always been restrictive on the ability to edit your stats, and I suppose some cheaters (I don't understand the compulsion to make up stats) will make it so that they have 1000000000000 plays of one song in particular or something. Anyway, I would love that.

miss precious perfect (musically), Monday, 12 January 2009 19:22 (fifteen years ago) link

or you could just tag properly ;)

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 12 January 2009 19:31 (fifteen years ago) link

Do any of you guys add parentheticals to live tracks? like, beyond the call of duty? (venue, city, date)

909090909 Rivethed Brikkchin Reverk now DANZ (Mackro Mackro), Monday, 12 January 2009 19:38 (fifteen years ago) link

I add a "live" tag to the genre, and I put infos in the comment.

Snowballing, Monday, 12 January 2009 19:45 (fifteen years ago) link

@musically: seconded! I have some 300 'Caretaker' tracks, but somehow they didn't merge with my 800 'The Caretaker' tracks. Shouldn't be that hard.

Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 12 January 2009 21:34 (fifteen years ago) link

Usually band names do merge but not track names

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 12 January 2009 21:39 (fifteen years ago) link

I've been having a problem with "Hercules & Love Affair" not merging with "Hercules and Love Affair"

rev, Monday, 12 January 2009 22:17 (fifteen years ago) link

last.fm should allow some sort of community-based merge suggestion box... sorta like wiki for its music database, to fix things like band name merges, song name merges, etc. They wouldn't have to charge for it.

That said, last.fm does have rules for converting band names. I notice when I had Ringö Shéna as an artist, last.fm scrobbler would auto-convert it to 椎名 林檎. So you figure if they could do that with all of 椎名 林檎's alternate romaji, they could easily do a "Hercules & Love Affair" <--> "Hercules and Love Affair" type thing. :-/

909090909 Rivethed Brikkchin Reverk now DANZ (Mackro Mackro), Monday, 12 January 2009 22:39 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, I notice for instance that everything tagged "Ghostface Killah" becomes "Ghostface"

rev, Monday, 12 January 2009 22:41 (fifteen years ago) link

i think all the foetus stuff merges into just "foetus"

R. L. Stinebeck (John Justen), Monday, 12 January 2009 22:43 (fifteen years ago) link

Years ago you could mod artist names it was done via musicbrainz too as well I think. There was a vote thing for correct name that came in after that. But they got rid of it with the new site

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 12 January 2009 22:46 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, I just had this problem with Art Bears/The Art Bears - the CD info tags it automatically as the latter, even though the album artwork and usually accepted moniker is the former.

emil.y, Monday, 12 January 2009 22:58 (fifteen years ago) link

My oddball guess: conversions happen if the artist contacts last.fm -- otherwise last.fm leaves it be

909090909 Rivethed Brikkchin Reverk now DANZ (Mackro Mackro), Monday, 12 January 2009 23:01 (fifteen years ago) link

or at least legal reps of the artist or a music contributor, if you will.

MUSICALLY SECONDED OMG. seriously i have so many incidences of this annoying me. it's mostly when a song leaks early and the title isn't set in stone - eg aly & aj's 'potential breakup song' was briefly titled 'the potential breakup song', and in that period i played it like 30 times. and now it just pisses me off. (the tag, not the song.)

lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 January 2009 00:01 (fifteen years ago) link

artist syncing happens sometimes - eg noreaga syncs to n.o.r.e. and nearly god syncs to tricky - and now you can flag mistagged artists - but you can't do that w/songs yet.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 January 2009 00:02 (fifteen years ago) link

wonder how this would work with songs that have artists featured on them. e.g. you got m.i.a.'s "come around". that could be scrobbled as "come around feat. timbaland", "come around ft. timbaland", "come around (featuring timbaland)" and the list goes on. plus, the "feat." could be attached to the artist tag rather than the song.

just something I've always pondered.

mark taylor, mark dickhead morelike (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 13 January 2009 00:29 (fifteen years ago) link

again, I think all these issues are resolved only if an artist and/or label and/or artist management rep works with last.fm and pays them $$$ -- otherwise

does last.fm no longer scrobble the stuff you've listened to on their radio stations?
