some dude, Tuesday, 3 July 2012 22:11 (eleven years ago) link

Slim's voice is great!

Top 10 for me:

1. Cupid (I dedicated this to a girl I was schemin' on in 97 on our local r&b station. Worked)
2. Peaches & Cream
3. Anywhere
4. U Already Know
5. Hey Luv
6. Only You
7. Sky's The Limit
8. Dance With Me
9. Hold Me
10. It's Over Now

Word, snappy snares on that, intense hook, love the intensity on the hook.

WORD, SANPPY SNARES ON THAT

J0rdan S., Thursday, 5 July 2012 05:45 (eleven years ago) link

i'm gonna start using that as a phrase regardless of what the conversation is about

Part III is def the best overall 112 release yeah. The vocals on the interludes are great:

Just A Little While, All My Love and Someone to Hold (minimal Slim) are a few more non-single favorites. Slim sounds so great on All My Love in partic.

i've listened to 'dance with me' every day since it showed up at the end of a radio mix

had completely forgotten about it, thought it was lloyd

of family bonds and individual triumph. Narrated by Tim Allen, (zachlyon), Thursday, 5 July 2012 22:03 (eleven years ago) link

after a decade of being fairly certain 'peaches & cream' was really not such a big dealio i woke up this morning with it in my head and havent been able to shake it off

i have to say i am pretty equable with any formulation of top 112 songs really, they're kind of a group you never feel like you have to go to bat for like that (in a good way)

wonder if cheeks might possibly be my favourite ever r&b guest rapper

never unwelcome, never irrelevant

r|t|c, Thursday, 5 July 2012 22:46 (eleven years ago) link

"Dance With Me", but yeah I'd be comfortable voting for any number of these. At the time I'd have said "Peaches & Cream" for sure.

But "Dance With Me" I think is distinguished by operating so successfully in pretty much all settings. The "if you're sexy and you know it" section, far from being a drawback, feels like this really generous gesture of commonality , like royalty personally handing out bread to the starving masses of mainstream R&B club dancefloor inhabitants.

oh man once a week i hear "Party Ain't A Party" or "Renee" and think about making a Cheeks/Lost Boyz poll

also once a month i hear "So Fly" and crank the volume all the way up when Slim says "let the haters hear the noise" in that prim little voice of his

some dude, Friday, 6 July 2012 00:47 (eleven years ago) link

Lost Boyz poll is essential.
