on the sole basis that a visceral reaction to r&b these days is as rare as a positive one i should probably go back and check bei maejor's stuff out again; the only thing i can specifically remember about the most recent tape is thinking this some of stuff is not talentless but i just haaaaaaate youuuuuuuuuu

I guess I'm still keeping an eye on the guy because each of his mixtapes has been better than the last. Plus I really like these:

Mixtape finally drops tomorrow. Here's the latest track, with a lovably remedial Gucci verse and a just-plain-awful Tity Boi verse

just getting around to this tape... think it's really fucking good

young money color me badd (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 30 August 2012 05:08 (eleven years ago) link

thing i love about this is that the beats are weirdo but not just for the sake of being weirdo. there's a real interaction there... he's not just showing them off or even singing over them. it's a beat-driven tape but w/ real strong songwriting. he just does a lot of cool things on this.

also "rated r" is the best kells rip i've heard in a bit

young money color me badd (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 30 August 2012 05:12 (eleven years ago) link

Diddy executive producing his next LP. Dreaming of a weird, Mike Will-ified LTTP.

Evan R, Thursday, 18 July 2013 21:01 (ten years ago) link

yeah that is kinda promising. whether or not it has LTTP-like vision, that's some major juice behind the project.

some dude, Thursday, 18 July 2013 21:04 (ten years ago) link

managed about 40 seconds of this new one

Evan R, Friday, 25 July 2014 15:45 (nine years ago) link

People keep singing this at karaoke at Bush Gardens in Seattle, because of someone's birthday party taking place. This is all I have to say about this song. (FIRST POST!)

Lots of nice odds and ends on his cutting-room scraps EP

keep forgetting to listen to the shlohmo ep

festival culture (Jordan), Tuesday, 5 August 2014 17:27 (nine years ago) link

This teaser EP has me excited for the album, but I'm worried about the Mustard influence, too. Read an interview a few days ago where Jeremih took credit for "Show Me"—as he tells it, he was one of the song's primary writers, and was supposed to be on it instead of Chris Brown—so in his mind he claims some ownership of that whole sound, which is scary. There are so many more individualistic sounds he could be running with instead.

Evan R, Tuesday, 5 August 2014 17:56 (nine years ago) link

When I was creating 'Don't Tell 'Em,' I was feeling a way because I was a part of the 'Show Me' record, with Kid Ink and Chris Brown, as far as from the writing side," he said. "I was actually on that song before Chris. Nobody really knows this: The day I wrote 'Don't Tell 'Em' was the day 'Show Me' went No. 1. It was like, 'Man, can you believe the song that I helped on and that I was on, went No. 1?' I was like, let me make my own..."

I mean, that definitely explains a lot, but at this point I expect more vision from Jeremih than "I'm going to make my own version of that one Chris Brown song"
