god, ilx has terrible taste

lex pretend, Wednesday, 21 January 2009 16:26 (fifteen years ago) link

ilx is way too mainstream

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 21 January 2009 16:27 (fifteen years ago) link

You would include yourself within that subset of ILXors who use last.fm, though, Lex? I mean, an aggregate based on last.fm's rather contentious method of calculation hardly gives an accurate representation of the ILM hive mind.

Beloved lightbulb (Neil S), Wednesday, 21 January 2009 16:28 (fifteen years ago) link

also terrible taste /= stuff you don't like

I rock, Lex sucks :-)

Beloved lightbulb (Neil S), Wednesday, 21 January 2009 16:44 (fifteen years ago) link

the lex rocked out last week remember!

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 21 January 2009 16:45 (fifteen years ago) link

if you look at the similarity cloud between the lex and I it says INDIE
http://anthony.liekens.net/pub/scripts/last.fm/compare.php?user1=trailofgybe&user2=lexpretend&type=overall

I am not as indie as the lex and I am APPALLED that last fm thinks I am.

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 21 January 2009 16:47 (fifteen years ago) link

haha i was just about to say, the lex is going to love those group charts
lex you listened to the new animal collective, right? is in on yr last.fm or was it elsewhere?

Socktor Duperman (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 21 January 2009 19:16 (fifteen years ago) link

jeez, am i the only one here to not hear it yet?

Ioannis, Wednesday, 21 January 2009 20:31 (fifteen years ago) link

I haven't heard it and don't care to.

The Reverend (rev), Wednesday, 21 January 2009 20:34 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, ordinarily i wouldn't want to hear it either, but i gotta admit i'm kind of curious now. ilx hive-mind strikes again!

Ioannis, Wednesday, 21 January 2009 20:40 (fifteen years ago) link

I thought the ilx hive-mind hated it?
or are you talking about the ilxors republic of hive-mind?

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 21 January 2009 20:51 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, the idea of ilx as this sorta all-engulfing taste-making organism.

ewwwww.

Ioannis, Wednesday, 21 January 2009 20:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Well at least with the lex you can never accuse him of being part of the ilx hive-mind.
But I don't see how there can be a hive-mind really when ilx can never agree on anything!

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 21 January 2009 20:57 (fifteen years ago) link

except Radiohead (j/k).

Ioannis, Wednesday, 21 January 2009 21:14 (fifteen years ago) link

Nah, the ads-in-songs thing is about Spotify, not Last.fm. As you were.

Oh righto. sorry about that, must have skimmed something.

Trayce, Wednesday, 21 January 2009 23:32 (fifteen years ago) link

Now it makes more sense.

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 22 January 2009 00:18 (fifteen years ago) link

This is getting to the point where I need to drop a "Use other words please."

the compiling of these top albums collages seems a bit illogical - there are things in mine i'm sure i've only listened to once...

"Yeh, I'm on Last.fm too!" now officially a pub-conversation starter. (Further field study obviously important.)

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 23 January 2009 20:15 (fifteen years ago) link

I've decided the next step is that last.fm should scrobble You Tube.

Progoths = Prog Rock Goths (Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You), Saturday, 24 January 2009 03:08 (fifteen years ago) link

if you have windows/firefox/greasemonkey/scrobble-youtube-script then it does!

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 24 January 2009 03:09 (fifteen years ago) link

I now have a high rating with Autumn Almanac.

Pretty much thanks to Genesis and TISM.

Bored of Canada (S-), Saturday, 24 January 2009 03:36 (fifteen years ago) link

Holy shit, what a screen name, dude. If we had a poll for screen names, I'd vote "Bored of Canada". Well done.

btw i would not ride for youtube scrobbles. i tend to use youtube a lot for embarassing stuff i do not want in my library, plus i click links from idiot friends a lot

BIGrack HOOSein Obama (k3vin k.), Saturday, 24 January 2009 05:23 (fifteen years ago) link

So, I just reset my play count. I was out of hard drive space for about a year, then got a new laptop, uploaded all my newer CDs to join the old ones in the library (about 1800 discs) and figured I'd reset my plays and start fresh, since I haven't scrobbled actively for about a year.

My first three plays on iTunes shuffle:

Ghostface - Poisonous Darts
Alexander Tucker - Superherder
Cinerama - Sly Curl

Add me!

See, these were the kinds of words of warning I might have hoped for. If Last.fm can scrobble You Tube, so what? Just because heroin is supposed to make me feel good, does that mean I should do it? I think not!

Progoths = Prog Rock Goths (Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You), Saturday, 24 January 2009 10:15 (fifteen years ago) link

I think so.

ilxor, Saturday, 24 January 2009 10:23 (fifteen years ago) link

xpost

Last.fm is above all, embarassing. Pappa Wheelie had a good quote about it in one chat I had with him recently, he said that last.fm was (these are his exact words, I wrote it down) "just a window into now, nothing more. It doesn't represent my expertise, but it represents my current lifestyle."

Dude summed up last.fm right there. Did you know that Fleetwood Mac are supposedly playing without Christine McVie? That is a disaster!

Moral of the story is: Am I supposed to feed every band/genre into the last.fm library that I've liked in the past just because I can? Or can the world leave me alone and let me listen to whatever I happen to feel comfortable listening to right now, hip standards be damned? I mean seriously, life is too stressful enough without worrying what the world might think of the current snapshot of whatever music you want to put in your life at that moment. Who cares?

Anyway, back to the goth, then.

yeah i xpressed my hate about this thread earlier but dumbasses prevail

matt p (Matt P), Saturday, 24 January 2009 10:32 (fifteen years ago) link

the dumbasses on this thread don't actually give a shit about others snarking on our taste.

true thank you for spelling it out Disco/Very (Roz)

matt p (Matt P), Saturday, 24 January 2009 11:35 (fifteen years ago) link

If you're embarrased about the interwebs knowing what you listen to now then why are you listening to it.
