Don't feed him. Bit disappointing if Spotify is removing bands like King Crimson. Though I daresay it's fripp who is behind it. Did he not give permission but the label did and he's got it removed? Or does he own it all now?
I doubt Spotify put it up without anyones permission.

Discipline accepts no reason for artists to assign the copyright interests in their work to either record company or management by virtue of a 'common practice' which was always questionable, often improper and is now indefensible blah blah etc etc.

On a lark (lalalala) I joined last.fm and hopped onto the ILX group. Tho I'm afraid I'm gonna mess up the numbers since I only really listen to "new" music on my laptop and play older stuff on my iPod + streamed through my xbox. So we'll see.

Do you guys set your iPods on manual, or auto-sync? I prefer manual for easy adding/deleting, but I can't figure out how to scrobble my iPod listens. What do you all do?

Mordy, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 06:08 (fifteen years ago) link

Manual and I don't use fucking itunes. Don't really care about scrobbling from it.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 06:32 (fifteen years ago) link

I use manual but I don't use the last.fm client, I use iSproggler. It's been reliable and easy to use.

That said, the problem with manual editing is that it doesn't capture repeat plays, so if i play a song 50 times between syncs it will only scrobble it once. probably a big reason why my top tracks rarely change positions. i have been considering moving to an auto-sync'd ipod...is that a pain? i have everything backed up on dvds and an external drive. but do you have to have your entire ipod library available whenever you sync?

miss precious perfect (musically), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 07:47 (fifteen years ago) link

It seems like a huge pain to me, but I'm going to give it a try. I'll let you know how it goes.

Mordy, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 07:53 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm not sure what you're doing wrong, Mordy. I use manual and scrobble from iTunes just fine. I also don't understand what musically is talking about with it not scrobbling repeat plays, but then I don't use iSproggler.

Glow In The Dark (Bimble), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 22:05 (fifteen years ago) link

Mine is working now. I had to remove everything from my iPod, reformat it to work with a Mac (since I hadn't reformated it since I used it with a PC a few years ago) and reloaded everything back on. Now it seems to work fine.

Mordy, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 22:38 (fifteen years ago) link

Good! I had a feeling it must be some kind of Mac vs. PC issue.

Glow In The Dark (Bimble), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 23:22 (fifteen years ago) link

So how about deleting tracks from your library? I left Teenage Jesus & The Jerks on at work - on repeat. It's scrobbling all night, ugh. Can I delete the plays of tonight, or does it delete everything by the band?

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 28 January 2009 00:10 (fifteen years ago) link

You should apply for a job to be the publicist for Teenage Jesus & The Jerks

Are you now the #1 Teenage Jesus & The Jerks listener on last.fm??

Mordy, Wednesday, 28 January 2009 01:06 (fifteen years ago) link

you can delete plays one by one

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 28 January 2009 06:32 (fifteen years ago) link

Lol @ Mackro, application's in the mail...

Mordy, strangely, I'm not

Herman, how do I delete tracks one by one? I can only see the 'remove from library' thing, but that sounds like it removes a song entirely.
