it came on the radio while we were driving home like an hour ago and my wife said "i should buy this song for my ipod" and i looked at her with mild horror

Maybe it depends on whether you associate the song with late 90's alt rock or with the best sitcom (apparently) in the history of the world? I dunno, but I like it...
― dlp9001, Sunday, 26 August 2012 01:08 (twelve years ago) link
I like it -- the combination of nerdgoof 90s style plus loud distorted guitar and bass noise going on constantly in the background appeals to me. The lyrics might be harder to swallow if the guitars weren't so noisy, but that not being the case, this is a very cool and unique pop song.
― Three Word Username, Sunday, 26 August 2012 09:53 (twelve years ago) link
Never heard it before Peep Show. Was incredibly drunk on my birthday last year and went to a US vs UK 90s night (it was awesome) and they played this and I was in such a state that I couldn't work out why they were playing the theme music to the best sitcom in the history of the world :D
― kinder, Sunday, 26 August 2012 13:51 (twelve years ago) link
There's a feedback/noise solo buried during the last chorus that no one's mentioned yet... prolly my favorite part.

OK I've never actually heard the whole song but ever since Peep Show started up again I've been singing the parts of it that are featured on that programme over and over again. I'm going to go and check out the full version right now

was gonna say wasn't "Flagpole Sitta" in the trailer for a Rachael Leigh Cook movie but i guess i confused Antitrust with Disturbing Behavior

trendy haters! i actually am ok with the song, just think a slowed down, super sensitive version is hilarious.
― tylerw, Wednesday, 12 December 2012 21:22 (eleven years ago) link
It really suffers from not having the "I wanna publish zines and rage against machines" couplet.

My rage was probably directed at self only Tyler. No offence. I returned to their second(?) album recently thanks to a mention upthread. It sounded decent.

I've never seen the video before, lead singer has a somehow-even-nerdier Craig Finn stage presence.

"Run it up the flagpole" is such a 90s ad agency / James Carville phrase (appropriately played with in this song).
― deep luminous trombone (Eazy), Monday, 23 May 2022 18:18 (two years ago) link
don't wanna think about that lead singer playing with anything
