seriously, if he keeps making album covers like this, i will have to keep making Avatar: The Last Airbender jokes.

yeah, I don't really know how Internet memes work, but I am picturing Flying Miguel photobombing all sorts of news and sports images, dunking on Kobe or Billy Corgan or whatever

“It’s definitely a progressive album,” the 25-year-old told Mina SayWhat. “I would describe it as being progressive in the sense that I’m taking a lot of my more alternative influences and incorporating them.”

Oh, Pussy is Mine is on this? Cool. He played that live at the Joe's Pub show and it felt like older material from somewhere but I didn't entirely recognize it.

Profiles weren't as high, but Love Me Back and Late Nights & Early Mornings come to mind.

which was late nights? marsha ambrosius?

that didn't register for me at ALL. Love me back is still in constant rotation.
thanks for prompting me to play the Ambrosious album again, Andy!

yeah good call with the Jazmine and Marsha albums, dug both. i'm just happy that this time Mig got to dodge the J. Cole bullet that Melanie and Elle caught this year.
― some dude, Monday, 27 August 2012 19:57 (eleven years ago) link
Alex, check out the Ambrosius again. Although it faffs around a bit in the middle section and is at times too masochistic for my taste, this is plush, sumptuous R&B of a high order -- probably my favorite one of last year

"Adorn" is great, but I've always thought it needed a B.o.B. verse

and a Calvin Harris remix featuring Nicki Minaj.

wait, ship: how are Kels' albums not contemporary R&B? Is it their retro stylings that inoculate them?

i was basically borrowing the parlance of the Grammys, who for most of the last decade had a 'contemporary R&B album' award to distinguish the overly modern hip hop-influenced stuff from the more traditional stuff that usually wins the best R&B album award (but the 2 categories were merged back into one this year). Chocolate Factory was nominated in the contemporary category; his last two would have been in the other category, if they were nominated.
― some dude, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 01:29 (eleven years ago) link
like you wouldn't listen to Write Me Back and expect to possibly hear a guest rapper on it (unlike Miguel's stuff), so it's not relevant to the point i was making.

"do you..." is like "quickie" pt 2... the glowing, coital track that just basks in its own sound. it's even a bit more ethereal tho.

Man is this release scheme convoluted. Like, I'm a pretty big fan of this guy, and I really can't keep track of which songs are out, which ones are coming soon, which ones are being bundled where, where to download them, when to download them, etc, etc. I am totally lost, and his site isn't really clarifying a lot of these questions.
The ADC EPs were clever, but he should stop fucking around and just put out an album already.
― Evan R, Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:08 (eleven years ago) link
three more songs out 9/11, full thing out 10/2

cool to see that Pop & Oak produced "Use Me," really starting to stan for them after the Elle Varner album. "Don't Look Back" is prob my least favorite song he's put out this year, though.

i've never heard so many radio DJs say things like "I love that song! don't you love that song?" before or after playing something as with "Adorn" -- was really awesome to change stations right after it and hear it starting on another station the other day.

heard "Adorn" on Tuesday! It helped that the R&B station played Maze's "Back in Stride" right after.
