Dropped iatee's VU Solo and added Mordy's next one -- did I miss anything?

Death Grits 2 (WmC), Saturday, 6 October 2012 15:13 (eleven years ago) link

I would like to apply to do Creedence Clearwater Revival

gesange der yuengling (crüt), Monday, 8 October 2012 18:17 (eleven years ago) link

the application process is pretty simple, you just have to throw eggs at underrated aero's house

some dude, Monday, 8 October 2012 18:19 (eleven years ago) link

ok so there are FOUR polls on the go atm? i'm going to let my tv themes one slide for now, this is ridic.

a hoy hoy, Monday, 8 October 2012 18:34 (eleven years ago) link

Sucks, because the tv themes one is the only one I give two shits about (no offense, Neptunes!)

Johnny Fever, Monday, 8 October 2012 18:35 (eleven years ago) link

it's lame that some people doing polls that aren't for single artist discographies think the whole queue idea doesn't apply to them but oh well, what are ya gonna do

some dude, Monday, 8 October 2012 18:37 (eleven years ago) link

plus aren't people a bit RAWKed out after the last poll? do they really need two more str8 after?

a hoy hoy, Monday, 8 October 2012 18:42 (eleven years ago) link

well, if algerian goalkeeper doesn't post at least 60 poll results a week dennis hopper will detonate him

some dude, Monday, 8 October 2012 18:43 (eleven years ago) link

hahaha

I count Neptunes and the latest two AG "hey let's all talk about my taste in music" polls ongoing...what's the 4th?

Death Grits 2 (WmC), Monday, 8 October 2012 18:48 (eleven years ago) link

oh, Tuomas' electronic music poll

Death Grits 2 (WmC), Monday, 8 October 2012 18:49 (eleven years ago) link

Dropped iatee's VU Solo

:(

had my ballot all ready to go for this one

stop swearing and start windmilling (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 8 October 2012 19:10 (eleven years ago) link

hi wmc, please can you delete me from the list? thanks!

Superphysical Resurrection (NickB), Monday, 8 October 2012 19:22 (eleven years ago) link

Fight fire with fire, a hoy hoy - simultaneous US and UK tv theme polls, then a radio one, then some threads discussion whether DVD box sets count as tv or not.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 8 October 2012 19:36 (eleven years ago) link

Seriously, don't drop tv themes, it was a great idea

Ismael Klata, Monday, 8 October 2012 19:37 (eleven years ago) link

im not dropping it, i'm just waiting two weeks

a hoy hoy, Monday, 8 October 2012 19:52 (eleven years ago) link

I also bailed on "classic rock canon," does someone else want to take it?

Doctor Casino, Monday, 8 October 2012 20:59 (eleven years ago) link

i'd be willing to take it on, although i may be inclined to bail on it as well depending on if the results of balls's '70s rawk tracks poll render it somewhat redundant

some dude, Monday, 8 October 2012 21:04 (eleven years ago) link

Actually wmc you're wrong with your (usual) snidey remarks (towards me) here.

latest two AG "hey let's all talk about my taste in music" polls ongoing..

The 70s polls are balls idea. I'm doing the albums one with him and he's doing the tracks poll. Others are helping out too.

Shakey you should join in nominating as I managed to persuade the others to allow the more guitar-y end of funk in. I think you would enjoy it. We can be a bit looser with definitions w/r/t to funk so it doesn't all have to sound like early funkadelic.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 16:38 (eleven years ago) link

Guys I am so swamped at work for the next few months that I'm going to have to either bail on the Kraftwerk one or push it way down the list.

HAPPY BDAY TOOTS (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 16:41 (eleven years ago) link

To be incorporated into the next full list:

CCR - crüt
drop US Indie Singles of the 80s
Classic Rock Canon changes from Dr Casino to some dude (tentative)
Move Kraftwerk down to spot after CCR

The last two can be dropped at any time if needed. JVC, if someone else wanted to run the Kraftwerk poll after Saint Etienne as scheduled, would you be OK with that, or would you like to hang on to it, just later?

WmC, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 16:57 (eleven years ago) link

If someone really wants to step up and take it, I'm fine with that. I just can't possibly make the time for a worthwhile poll to happen in the next few months. I don't want to half-ass it and if someone else can run it, great.

HAPPY BDAY TOOTS (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 16:58 (eleven years ago) link

is there a new film one planned? the comedy/action/ horror polls were the best ilx threads of all time imo.

piscesx, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 17:03 (eleven years ago) link

i'd takeover us80sindie because its a genre i rlly like but i think i'd need a moderator type for the nominations because its also a genre i dont know so well and i'd be open to trolling

a hoy hoy, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 17:03 (eleven years ago) link

I revived the horror results thread to ask about that a while back since the animation results apparently aren't going to happen. Crickets.

xpost

WmC, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 17:04 (eleven years ago) link

xp - I wonder if NickB wanted to drop that because the recent 80s tracks poll made it mostly redundant.

WmC, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 17:05 (eleven years ago) link

oh fair enough.

I'm up for doing a Brit films poll, but I've the St Etienne poll on my horizon so would be a month or two before I'd run it.

yeah partly. was going to enforce a strict independent labels only rule but include everything from metal and hardcore through to jangly college rock, and also was going for singles instead of tracks so that a handful of bands wouldn't dominate, so it wouldn't have been an exact match, but it does feel like it's too close to go through it all again. but also, i couldn't commit the time. never mind, AGs poll was fun anyway and probably turned out a lot better

Superphysical Resurrection (NickB), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 18:01 (eleven years ago) link

in fact he gave me the excuse to ditch it!

Superphysical Resurrection (NickB), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 18:02 (eleven years ago) link

mm Brit films poll..

piscesx, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 18:08 (eleven years ago) link

A heads-up -- I think some dude alluded to this recently on this thread or another poll thread, but these numbered polls pretty much went on hiatus during December and January last year for best-of-2011 voting and results. Seems reasonable to plan for the same hiatus this year, yeah?

xp -- thanks Nick, reasonable points. I hope everybody who signed up for one of these and who is now thinking "oh shit, what have I gotten myself into" will speak up! The rocket fuel these things run on is enthusiasm, and if the tank's empty, no worries!

WmC, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 18:10 (eleven years ago) link

Agreed with hiatus, and re rocket fuel. Four going on at once is too much right now, and I really don't want the artist ones to suffer because they're excellent fun, dead interesting, hugely educational, blah blah blah

(ps you're doing a great job being THE ENFORCER yourself btw. Just in case you were worried that we *all* think you're being a monster)

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 18:16 (eleven years ago) link

you're a lovely monster, WmC

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 18:17 (eleven years ago) link

Thanks IK and VG. As I've said before, just keeping the list is the easy part, and the heavy lifting is being done by the poll-runners and voters!

WmC, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 18:55 (eleven years ago) link

ha, I think I can't thank you enough for keeping reminding me about my poll!

V79, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:00 (eleven years ago) link

Jesus, this waiting for the disco poll is killing me.

Ham Lushbaugh (Eric H.), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:04 (eleven years ago) link

Disco and the Motown/Stax polls are what I'm looking forward to the most.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:11 (eleven years ago) link

Madonna and Springsteen too, but not as much.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:12 (eleven years ago) link

kraftwerk and husker du for me

Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:13 (eleven years ago) link

Eric, I'd estimate disco around May/June-ish, barring delays and whether we get through Springsteen before the hiatus.

V79, I'm glad the reminders were welcome -- the last thing I want to be is a nag.

WmC, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:16 (eleven years ago) link

Neptunes, Miles and Motown - no real idea how I'm gonna handle these
Springsteen, Roxy - will be really interesting for me; it's make-or-break time for these two artists
Disco - straight-up salivating

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:26 (eleven years ago) link

british films will be great, but you need to have a way of defining what a british film actually is

foreign language films would be a good one too one day

Superphysical Resurrection (NickB), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:30 (eleven years ago) link

foreign language = non-english, plz pardon the anglocentricity

Superphysical Resurrection (NickB), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:32 (eleven years ago) link

It may take me until May or June to just pare my list of candidates down to 50.

Ham Lushbaugh (Eric H.), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:41 (eleven years ago) link

I really do think I'm going to post Miles results #21-60 at random before doing the top 20 in order. Although that would probably work better for a John Cage poll.

WmC, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:43 (eleven years ago) link

While we're talking Miles, where should I start my research? From time to time I hear chatter about how good the box sets are, but I've never been able to identify what ones they are. It would mean my Christmas sorted, potentially.
