Jesus, this waiting for the disco poll is killing me.

Ham Lushbaugh (Eric H.), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:04 (eleven years ago) link

Disco and the Motown/Stax polls are what I'm looking forward to the most.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:11 (eleven years ago) link

Madonna and Springsteen too, but not as much.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:12 (eleven years ago) link

kraftwerk and husker du for me

Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:13 (eleven years ago) link

Eric, I'd estimate disco around May/June-ish, barring delays and whether we get through Springsteen before the hiatus.

V79, I'm glad the reminders were welcome -- the last thing I want to be is a nag.

WmC, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:16 (eleven years ago) link

Neptunes, Miles and Motown - no real idea how I'm gonna handle these
Springsteen, Roxy - will be really interesting for me; it's make-or-break time for these two artists
Disco - straight-up salivating

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:26 (eleven years ago) link

british films will be great, but you need to have a way of defining what a british film actually is

foreign language films would be a good one too one day

Superphysical Resurrection (NickB), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:30 (eleven years ago) link

foreign language = non-english, plz pardon the anglocentricity

Superphysical Resurrection (NickB), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:32 (eleven years ago) link

It may take me until May or June to just pare my list of candidates down to 50.

Ham Lushbaugh (Eric H.), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:41 (eleven years ago) link

I really do think I'm going to post Miles results #21-60 at random before doing the top 20 in order. Although that would probably work better for a John Cage poll.

WmC, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:43 (eleven years ago) link

While we're talking Miles, where should I start my research? From time to time I hear chatter about how good the box sets are, but I've never been able to identify what ones they are. It would mean my Christmas sorted, potentially.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:54 (eleven years ago) link

And while we're talking non-English-speaking, what foreign artists might make for good polls? I'm thinking Jacques Brel has to happen at some point.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:55 (eleven years ago) link

I was thinking of volunteering for a Serge Gainsbourg poll but was afraid the turnout would be dismal. Also I cannot speak French. Just wanted an excuse to post pics of Jane Birkin tbh.

Oneohchex Point Charlie (Spectrist), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 20:06 (eleven years ago) link

Gainsbourg would be very cool, lots of different eras and deep cuts. Might put a reggae track at #1.

fish frosch (seandalai), Wednesday, 10 October 2012 01:06 (eleven years ago) link

Can't say I'm interested in Brel, but Gainsbourg would be a fun one.

WmC, Wednesday, 10 October 2012 01:11 (eleven years ago) link

Lol Acid Mothers Temple.

Claudia Schiffer Kills Frog (Leee), Wednesday, 10 October 2012 01:11 (eleven years ago) link

For non-english obvs, the only question is we have enough stuff to choose from.

Claudia Schiffer Kills Frog (Leee), Wednesday, 10 October 2012 01:13 (eleven years ago) link

probably goes without saying that I would vote in an AMT poll

something about tragedy?...farce?...Richard Marx? (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 10 October 2012 05:54 (eleven years ago) link

That's a poll where the top 10 could just be randomly chosen and few would notice.

fish frosch (seandalai), Wednesday, 10 October 2012 11:31 (eleven years ago) link

Actually, an epics (eg 20+ minutes) poll might be interesting, not necessarily AMT, but like all non-classical, non-Cage music?

Claudia Schiffer Kills Frog (Leee), Thursday, 11 October 2012 01:04 (eleven years ago) link

As long as I can vote for USMILEAMBIENT.mp3, I'm down for that.

fish frosch (seandalai), Thursday, 11 October 2012 01:05 (eleven years ago) link

Not sure if I can plan this far ahead, but yeah, put me down for that (though I'm sorely tempted to drop the time minimum to 18 minutes just so a number of my faves can qualify).

Claudia Schiffer Kills Frog (Leee), Saturday, 13 October 2012 19:15 (eleven years ago) link

I am thinking of maybe taking on a B-52's poll; is there enough of a demand for this? Is their catalog large enough?

bell biv devo (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 03:37 (eleven years ago) link

they have about as much music as a lot of other artists w/ track polls but i wonder if there's enough people who know more than a couple albums to make it interesting

some dude, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 03:41 (eleven years ago) link

Hrmmm, I wonder. I consider myself a pretty decent fan but I really only know the first two records, Cosmic Thing, and a few tracks on Whammy that stick out in my head. I'd definitely vote and follow the results but I'm not sure it'd be substantively different than just a B-52s discussion thread - I dunno if I'd really come out of it with a bunch of new underrated albums to check out or what-have-you. Could be wrong though!

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 03:42 (eleven years ago) link

i say do it, i want to know more about the B-52's

Go SF Giants (Bee OK), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 03:46 (eleven years ago) link

I'd participate, but my ballot will have no tracks recorded after Cosmic Thing.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 03:46 (eleven years ago) link

plus this is ILM, which will make the result that much more interesting.

Go SF Giants (Bee OK), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 03:47 (eleven years ago) link

I'd participate, but my ballot will have no tracks recorded after Cosmic Thing.

big deal, they only made 2 albums after that. they do have a few really good songs, though (also "Hallucinating Pluto"!).

some dude, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 03:58 (eleven years ago) link

You could call it "Rock POLLster".

50 Shades of Greil (C. Grisso/McCain), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 04:15 (eleven years ago) link

From here on out, I will hear all thread titles with POLL inserted into the lyrics/title/whatever as being in the voice of Fred Schneider.

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 05:22 (eleven years ago) link

If I do this I will certainly not be calling it "Rock POLLster"

bell biv devo (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 05:24 (eleven years ago) link

"Six or eight thousand years ago, they laid down the POLL"

bell biv devo (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 05:29 (eleven years ago) link

"Girl from IPOLLnema Goes To Greenland"

bell biv devo (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 05:30 (eleven years ago) link

"Six POLL Six POLL Eight Four Two"

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 05:31 (eleven years ago) link

Poll if you want to..

Mark G, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 10:25 (eleven years ago) link

Oh yes, that too.

Pacing the floor at this point.

pplains, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 15:20 (eleven years ago) link

Tag me on for The Doors at the bottom of that, if we're still going (and I'm still going) in three years' time.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 15:21 (eleven years ago) link

That's the next one I'm really stoked for. I plan on listening to a lot of Saint Etienne coming up, but not sure I'll vote in it. xp

IK, I'll mod it into the post above.

WmC, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 15:25 (eleven years ago) link

I guess it'll also depend on how 'epics' comes to be defined - can't have two polls in a row for eight-minute organ-and-spoken-word-led jams.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 15:27 (eleven years ago) link

Eight minutes? Not epic! (Debating with myself if minimum cutoff should be 18 or 20.)

Claudia Schiffer Kills Frog (Leee), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 15:47 (eleven years ago) link

That's the next one I'm really stoked for.

^this!

WmC, make sure you'll listen to as much of the unofficial (non-album) stuff as you possibly can. Some real gems in there. And please VOTE!

daavid, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 16:08 (eleven years ago) link

Haha xp - a single ballot will be about seven hours long

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 16:15 (eleven years ago) link

leee is checking the length of his fave amt and going by that

Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 16:17 (eleven years ago) link

please remove me from the list completely, thanks
