Hrmmm, I wonder. I consider myself a pretty decent fan but I really only know the first two records, Cosmic Thing, and a few tracks on Whammy that stick out in my head. I'd definitely vote and follow the results but I'm not sure it'd be substantively different than just a B-52s discussion thread - I dunno if I'd really come out of it with a bunch of new underrated albums to check out or what-have-you. Could be wrong though!

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 03:42 (eleven years ago) link

i say do it, i want to know more about the B-52's

Go SF Giants (Bee OK), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 03:46 (eleven years ago) link

I'd participate, but my ballot will have no tracks recorded after Cosmic Thing.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 03:46 (eleven years ago) link

plus this is ILM, which will make the result that much more interesting.

big deal, they only made 2 albums after that. they do have a few really good songs, though (also "Hallucinating Pluto"!).

some dude, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 03:58 (eleven years ago) link

You could call it "Rock POLLster".

50 Shades of Greil (C. Grisso/McCain), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 04:15 (eleven years ago) link

From here on out, I will hear all thread titles with POLL inserted into the lyrics/title/whatever as being in the voice of Fred Schneider.

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 05:22 (eleven years ago) link

If I do this I will certainly not be calling it "Rock POLLster"

bell biv devo (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 05:24 (eleven years ago) link

"Six or eight thousand years ago, they laid down the POLL"

bell biv devo (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 05:29 (eleven years ago) link

"Girl from IPOLLnema Goes To Greenland"

bell biv devo (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 05:30 (eleven years ago) link

"Six POLL Six POLL Eight Four Two"

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 05:31 (eleven years ago) link

Poll if you want to..

Mark G, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 10:25 (eleven years ago) link

Oh yes, that too.

Pacing the floor at this point.

pplains, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 15:20 (eleven years ago) link

Tag me on for The Doors at the bottom of that, if we're still going (and I'm still going) in three years' time.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 15:21 (eleven years ago) link

That's the next one I'm really stoked for. I plan on listening to a lot of Saint Etienne coming up, but not sure I'll vote in it. xp

IK, I'll mod it into the post above.

WmC, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 15:25 (eleven years ago) link

I guess it'll also depend on how 'epics' comes to be defined - can't have two polls in a row for eight-minute organ-and-spoken-word-led jams.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 15:27 (eleven years ago) link

Eight minutes? Not epic! (Debating with myself if minimum cutoff should be 18 or 20.)

Claudia Schiffer Kills Frog (Leee), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 15:47 (eleven years ago) link

That's the next one I'm really stoked for.

^this!

WmC, make sure you'll listen to as much of the unofficial (non-album) stuff as you possibly can. Some real gems in there. And please VOTE!

daavid, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 16:08 (eleven years ago) link

Haha xp - a single ballot will be about seven hours long

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 16:15 (eleven years ago) link

leee is checking the length of his fave amt and going by that

Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 16:17 (eleven years ago) link

please remove me from the list completely, thanks

No! I don't wanna be no.69

Ismaels summer of 69

Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 17:47 (eleven years ago) link

Noooo I was so looking forward to Kraftwerk!!!

bell biv devo (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 22:39 (eleven years ago) link

Number 69 should be a 69 Love Songs poll.

this is the dream of avril and chad (jer.fairall), Wednesday, 17 October 2012 03:14 (eleven years ago) link

I'd run a Merritt poll if were interested.

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Wednesday, 17 October 2012 03:17 (eleven years ago) link

Would vote in a Merritt poll. Especially if it were a top 69.

this is the dream of avril and chad (jer.fairall), Wednesday, 17 October 2012 03:20 (eleven years ago) link

Same here! 69 Love Songs has been done though, iirc.

daavid, Wednesday, 17 October 2012 03:21 (eleven years ago) link

And someone please do Kraftwerk!

daavid, Wednesday, 17 October 2012 03:22 (eleven years ago) link

Could also just do a poll of top 69 love songs, though that could get unwieldy.

this is the dream of avril and chad (jer.fairall), Wednesday, 17 October 2012 03:22 (eleven years ago) link

well i'd want to include all the mag fields + other merritt bands and i guess side projects (i haven't heard things like the opera or whatever that was)

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Wednesday, 17 October 2012 03:23 (eleven years ago) link

Well, I don't think any those opera tracks have much of a chance to chart, TBH.

daavid, Wednesday, 17 October 2012 03:27 (eleven years ago) link

It should definitely be everything Merritt has done though. Some great 6ths and Future Bible Heroes stuff out there.

this is the dream of avril and chad (jer.fairall), Wednesday, 17 October 2012 03:29 (eleven years ago) link

well go ahead and put me down for the Merritt poll. unless of course I totally bungle the Clash one.

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Wednesday, 17 October 2012 03:30 (eleven years ago) link

xp Definitely, and let's not forget the Gothic Archies! The "Series of Unfortunate Events" tracks were mostly disposable but the first (an only) EP is classic.

daavid, Wednesday, 17 October 2012 03:32 (eleven years ago) link

some great gothic archies stuff, and just him under his solo name had "maria maria maria" and "one april day"

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Wednesday, 17 October 2012 03:34 (eleven years ago) link

leee is checking the length of his fave amt and going by that

More like my favorite Katy Perry song.

Claudia Schiffer Kills Frog (Leee), Wednesday, 17 October 2012 16:16 (eleven years ago) link

I had a thought earlier today that "60s/70s singer-songwriters" might have been a better poll than Joni Mitchell solo...it would be interesting to see how that canon shakes out, "At Seventeen" vs "Fire and Rain" vs "Help Me" etc

still, Mitchell turned out good I thought

WmC, Wednesday, 17 October 2012 16:38 (eleven years ago) link

It was nice going through a thread about Joni Mitchell without having to read about Carly Simon.

pplains, Wednesday, 17 October 2012 16:53 (eleven years ago) link

i know that it's silly to be discussing it so far in advance but i've been wondering about instead of an emo poll it might be cooler to do a new pornographers and solo albums poll. any thoughts? (i could do both too at different times...)

Mordy, Wednesday, 17 October 2012 16:56 (eleven years ago) link

a folk poll would be good

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 17 October 2012 17:00 (eleven years ago) link

btw nominations end today for the 70s poll
If anyone would like to take part that would be great 1970-1979 WTF - The Hard 'n' Heavy 'n' Loud + Krautrock, Arty, Noisy, Weird, Funky, Punky Shit - Albums Poll! Nominations ! (ends Oct 17 you slack bastards - jjjusten edit)

William and Shakey i think might enjoy it. Please have a look everybody as you're all welcome!

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 17 October 2012 17:01 (eleven years ago) link

I don't see that in the queue

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 17 October 2012 17:03 (eleven years ago) link

well it's not part of this series of polls, true, neither were the 00s or 90s electronic polls or the 80s rock poll, but everyone is welcome to join in them all.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 17 October 2012 17:11 (eleven years ago) link

Ah, I can never stay mad at you AG

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 17 October 2012 17:13 (eleven years ago) link
