At Vegemite Grrl's request, I'd like to reactivate this previously uncompleted poll and add it to the bottom of the master list.

"If only more strippers voted." - the Hard Rock and Hair Metal tracks poll nominations thread (Closes September 3rd)

At some point I would very much like to do an Extreme Metal poll. No hard rock, no NWOBHM, no false shit. tru cvlt, grind, death metal and heavy thrash/thrashcore only. Can we put that in the calendar somewhere?

Frobisher the (Viceroy), Wednesday, 31 October 2012 22:28 (eleven years ago) link

what is NWOBHM?

I haven't gone anywhere.

Hans von Jerkoffsky (WilliamC), Friday, 2 November 2012 01:02 (eleven years ago) link

can i be a terrible person and withdraw my entry (Wire)? I'm just acknowledging that almost all the votes would go to songs from the first 3 albums (which we polled once). wouldn't be that interesting. and i only when i dedicate my own time and energy to doing a poll that i'm totally stoked about.

but the boo boyz are getting to (Z S), Friday, 2 November 2012 01:04 (eleven years ago) link

i knew there have been some changes with you William but happy that you are still able to keep this thread organized and running smoothly.

i have both New Order and Steely Dan coming up and feel pressure to get it right, will go very big in each poll that i do.

xpost

Could you add my Stephin Merritt poll? I think I'll do it, even if I'm not convinced by a general interest. Gotta keep the indie quotient up.

Gukbe, Friday, 2 November 2012 03:49 (eleven years ago) link

Pink Floyd still so far away *sigh*

Sure, you'll be in at 71 on the next posting of the full list. I try not to post the full thing too often -- don't want to make the thread too hard to scroll. xp

Is it alright if I throw up the tv theme tunes general discussion/nominations thread today and have it run until say... next monday?

Mark G, Friday, 2 November 2012 13:25 (eleven years ago) link

Meanwhile, I feel really dumb because I still haven't figured out the Leroy Jenkins reference.

Hans von Jerkoffsky (WilliamC), Friday, 2 November 2012 13:31 (eleven years ago) link

Leroy Jenkins was a violinist associated with the AACM, right? Don't know what he has to with Husker Du, though.

Tuomas, Friday, 2 November 2012 13:33 (eleven years ago) link

google: Leroy Jenkins

but the boo boyz are getting to (Z S), Friday, 2 November 2012 13:41 (eleven years ago) link

Three polls in a row I'm excited about: Huskers, Bruce, Miles.

How many years to P-Funk?

Named locally as Tom D (Tom D.), Friday, 2 November 2012 13:46 (eleven years ago) link

How would you pull a Leroy Jenkins with a ballot poll? Start rolling out results before the submission deadline?

how's life, Friday, 2 November 2012 13:47 (eleven years ago) link

And no Can? Everybody likes them!

Named locally as Tom D (Tom D.), Friday, 2 November 2012 13:47 (eleven years ago) link

I like the way the Neptunes poll has faded away, and will presumably be taken over by someone determined to crank it out to have it done and out there - it'll mirror the collapse of the Neps' imperial period and realignment as a vehicle for Pharrell hooks

sug night (sic), Friday, 2 November 2012 14:03 (eleven years ago) link

If he stays underground I said I'll do said cranking but I feel after the TV themes is enough of a grace period

Actually guys, I was referring to Leroy Jenkins, the famed violinist.

A trademark of his is to patiently wait until the other instruments are playing before beginning his violin solo.

pplains, Saturday, 3 November 2012 01:34 (eleven years ago) link

lol you guys may have named every tv show ever on that thread and its only the first day. was not expecting such a ridiculous response :)

Saint Etienne polls are closed, but Billy is too busy to start the results rollout until the weekend. PP, ready to roll with Hüsker Dü? (As though I don't already know the answer to that.)

Is there a link somewhere in these 1700 answers for a Google Doc file that I think finefine made?

Put my name down for a Pixies ballot poll. I realize it won't take place until about 2018, but I'll be here.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 17 November 2012 21:19 (eleven years ago) link

will do

WilliamC, Saturday, 17 November 2012 21:46 (eleven years ago) link

William, what're your plans for the Miles poll? I'm hopefully getting the big box set for my Christmas and am hoping I'll get the chance to do it some kind of justice.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 17 November 2012 21:48 (eleven years ago) link

To paraphrase one of the Hernandez Brothers (I think), the plan is to spin and spin and spin until there's blood all over the walls.

WilliamC, Saturday, 17 November 2012 22:04 (eleven years ago) link

But seriously, I'm not sure yet. Aside from the spinning.

WilliamC, Saturday, 17 November 2012 22:04 (eleven years ago) link

Ballots will be longer than 20 spots though. Probably 30... 40 feels too big. My philosophy about these polls is that the cutting is as important as the ordering, and that the cutting should hurt at least a little bit.
