Robin Zander is the nicest rock dude I've ever met by far.

If that was directed at me, Ned, don't worry: You gave MX-80 Sound their due in AMG, and that alone puts you in my good book! (Assuming I ever write one.)

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 15:35 (eighteen years ago) link

x-post, that was.

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 15:35 (eighteen years ago) link

Robin Zander and Rick Neilson were both super nice when I met them, too.
He's not rock, but Charley Pride has been exceedingly cordial both times I've done phoners with him.

Andrew WK, easily. Ever seen him write a paragraph on 300 kids's LPs for SIX HOURS at a record store in-store that was supposed to end in two hours?

Mike Watt, close second.

Actually, I didn't REALLY think so - just wanted a half-arsed excuse to give you a shout-out!

Allen Toussaint is a friendly teddybear of a guy with a wicked streak of black humor.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Thursday, 5 January 2006 03:07 (eighteen years ago) link

the correct answer is andrew WK surely

Some friends of mine saw him after a show in Amarillo, TX (the cradle of rock) and they were pretty well wasted.

Andrew WK told them they needed some bread to soak up the alcohol, and then procured some from his bus.

Now THAT'S nice.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 28 September 2006 18:38 (seventeen years ago) link

Some punks I knew ran into Joe Strummer in a bar in NYC, when he was singing for the Pogues. They had a couple of drinks together and on his way out left $50 for the bartender, giving his snaggletoothed grin and saying "I did that 'cause I got class." Seems like he was pretty down-to-earth, at least at that point in his career.

Sean Lennon bought me dinner because he couldn't sneak me into a 19+ show a few years back.. then let me hang out with him/Cibo Matto for a few hours. Very nice folks!

The again he generally has no idea where he is most of the time.

oh, and my friends' band has just been on tour with the human league, and they say phil oakey is an absolute diamond. went out of his way to look after them, and repeatedly bigged them up to the audiences.

AWWW. I have a little crush on Phil Oakey (even the Phil Oakey of 2006) and this helps that. Plus it's sweet to know that one of your teen idols is sweet. Aw. That's so, so good to know.

Robyn Hitchcock seems nice, if your into raving lunatics!

I didn't get an extremely nice vibe from him. I mean he didn't seem like a bad guy, but he seemed a bit neurotic, fussy and unapproachable.
