So how do the group charts work? If I listen to 80 Etta James tracks, will she chart at 80 at the end of the week?
― Mordy, Saturday, 31 January 2009 06:53 (fifteen years ago) link
no. it's based on listeners not plays

Ah, ok. And it's a 1:1 ratio? So, about 80 people in the group listened to Animal Collective last week?

Okay hey hey wait a minute. You can't have the Disco/Very tag. That one belongs to my non-ILXor friend who just mentioned today how some album by ELO called "Discovery" was dubbed "Disco, Very" by fans of them who hated their new direction.

aw but i've had this screenname for a while now - nothing to do with ELO tho. i'm keeping it, ner.

Which is a bit strange. I listen to a lot of stuff on iTunes shuffle these days, so I may hear one Animal Collective track in a week, but I will chart the same as someone who is spinning MPP all weekend.

I also tried that Top Artists connections game someone mentioned upthread. It drove me insane, as I got trapped in a cycle of bands with very few similar artists. Could post it here, but it is very long and even more geeky than most of this thread.

Sometimes it wont let me add people on this computer so I usually dont bother and just let people add me. I dont really like adding people first unless they say to (ie by posting here) but i usually add anyone who requests me. I do however have 150 friends who added me that i have no clue who they are or never chat to. But hey who cares.

yeah I noticed that they have started cleaning up the metadata. there are some that are fucking me over though. on my top tracks, they changed
"blur - girls & boys (pet shop boys radio edit)" to "blur - girls & boys (7" mix)"
but the PSB mix isn't a standard 7" mix.
also, my top two songs used to be
Mason vs. Princess Superstar – Perfect Exceeder Mason vs. Princess Superstar – Perfect Exceeder (Vocal Club mix)
now they are
Mason vs Princess Superstar – Perfect Exceeder Mason vs. Princess Superstar – Perfect Exceeder
are they really stripping the "club mix" distinction? and since they aren't merging artists yet (which really seems like the logical first step over merging tracks) i have what looks to be the exact same song twice in a row.
― miss precious perfect (musically), Saturday, 31 January 2009 21:04 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah, i am looking down my list and they have stripped quite a bit of data regarding remixes. for tracks where the additional info was "radio edit" or "album mix" i am happy that it's gone, but where it was a specific remix, lots of tracks are missing that data now. i'm so screwed.
― miss precious perfect (musically), Saturday, 31 January 2009 21:08 (fifteen years ago) link
i think they are merging some artists...but obv not all. some of them are annoying me too, eg
Yung L.A. - Ain't I (Remix) (Feat. Young Dro & T.I.)
is now
Yung LA Ft. Young Dro & T.I. – Ain't I (Remix)
^^wtf i don't want the featured artists in w/the main artist. it seems to be really inconsistent in this regard though. also,
Kelly Rowland - Gotsta Go (Part I) (feat. Da Brat)
Kelly Rowland – Gotsta Go Pt. 1 (Feat. Da Brat) (Bonus Track)
^^why do i care whether it's a bonus track or not?!
― lex pretend, Saturday, 31 January 2009 21:10 (fifteen years ago) link
ethan, gang gang dance are some sort of NYC experimental art band, dunno much about who exactly they are. i got into them cuz one of my favourite grime MCs is featured on their latest album, which is really good. tim f loves it too.

Your musical compatibility with tipsy39 is Low
Music you have in common includes Young Jeezy, Grace Jones, Lil' Wayne, T.I. and Santogold.
and it only shows on your front page which tracks have been autocorrected...when i scroll down my entire top tracks list there's no real indication that something has been merged, except that i don't recognize playing that particular version so many times. and once i do find them and want to vote for it to be changed back, if it's not a particularly popular track i doubt it will get enough people to even notice or care.
― miss precious perfect (musically), Saturday, 31 January 2009 21:15 (fifteen years ago) link
the other day my recommendations radio spit out some funky live version of 'makes me wanna holler' labeled as if it's the normal what's going on version. easy enough to find it in this case but gonna get annoying if that type of thing is routine.

i'm looking at my artists through my library tab but it doesn't indicate right off the bat which ones have been changed, which is what i would like.
yeah they say they haven't been merging all artists but i have noticed some changes, "andrew spencer and the vamprockerz" is now just "andrew spencer" (no realtion to the former) so they have basically created a new overlap that didn't exist yesterday. on a good note, they merged "diana ross and the supremes" with "the supremes".
what i would really like last.fm to do is let us manually change the ones they autochanged, and based on what people change their tracks to last.fm can go by what the popular decision is for the track standard.
good in theory, but until they give us more leverage i'm going to have to turn off this functionality.
