Overall so far I think my compatibility with many of you is higher than I expected it to be. For some reason I find myself more interested in the artists popping up under the low compatibility listings - like I find it strange that I could share those 4-5 artists with someone yet very little else.

Can anyone using a mac please advise re: iTunes taking 5-7 mins to launch after installing Last.fm? I've only had this turned on for 12hrs and I already want to delete it. Surely there's some check box that says "make this suck less" but i can't find it.

brotherlovesdub, Friday, 6 February 2009 17:33 (fifteen years ago) link

it's not fast but no 5-7 minutes either and never has been.

sonderangerbot, Friday, 6 February 2009 17:38 (fifteen years ago) link

5-7 minutes is outrageous. No problems here after installing last.fm on a mac.

iTunes is a memory pig, and the iTunes last.fm scrobbling plugin is a spit in the memory ocean. I'm guessing you hit some sort of virtual memory threshold at the same time you installed the plugin, by coincidence.. or Some Other Weird iTunes Thing (of which there are plenty.)

System Jr. (Mackro Mackro), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:05 (fifteen years ago) link

If you have little hard disk space left on the one where iTunes is installed, try clearing out space or maybe defragging?

System Jr. (Mackro Mackro), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:06 (fifteen years ago) link

thanks for the suggestions. i have checked the activity monitor and iTunes appears to be using the same amount of real/virtual memory as usual. i'm not ready to believe this is a coincidence and i've got 20+GB available on the volume with iTunes installed. all files are kept on portable HD. 449gb in iTunes.

brotherlovesdub, Friday, 6 February 2009 20:22 (fifteen years ago) link

3GB RAM. Can i disable Last.Fm until i start iTunes and turn it on once my library opens or does last.fm need to be turned on the same time iTunes launches?

brotherlovesdub, Friday, 6 February 2009 20:23 (fifteen years ago) link

Ok, I unchecked the sync ipod option in preferences and iTunes launch time is back to normal. carry on.

Are you using the official Last.fm client? Fuck that thing, it's a pig. iScrobbler is the way to go (though make sure you turn off the absurd "local charts" option).

Ioannis: I agree about M.I.A. band, haven't fixed that yet. Also: yes, it's LKJ, he pops up more than anyone else and I don't know why. I always listen on random shuffle mode and never scrobble/sync anything, plus my iPod is busted.
