Tangerine guy Mark Dumais was previously in an indie band called Crash with Kurt Ralske of Ultra Vivid Scene - had an ex who was obsessed with this song by them http://youtu.be/h04dAMBNe0s

My vote wouldve lifted oasis above momus, which wouldve been something at least

no them being forced to share a lowly position with pervy nick gives me indescribable pleasure
― OutdoorFish, Thursday, 14 February 2013 12:46 (eleven years ago) link
Ugh.
Primal Scream deserve a bit more acclaim than this, surely. Might be a good time to get the Give Out But Don't Give Up reappraisal moving.

the rolling stones tribute album?
― OutdoorFish, Thursday, 14 February 2013 12:53 (eleven years ago) link
Ah, but it was so, so much more than that (disclosure: I haven't heard it)
― Ismael Klata, Thursday, 14 February 2013 13:05 (eleven years ago) link
would've voted telescopes, check out the live.aftertaste thing (it's on spotify under "singles" i think) to get an idea of what they're edoing live these days, loud brutal rad guitars, RIFFS, love those guys
― Crackle Box, Thursday, 14 February 2013 13:13 (eleven years ago) link
Kind of surprised there's 5 other people who voted SFA.
― afriendlypioneer, Thursday, 14 February 2013 19:30 (eleven years ago) link
Was hoping that someone would have at least namechecked the Jazz Butcher. (voted Telescopes myself)
― Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 14 February 2013 19:34 (eleven years ago) link
or The Legend! - what an artist that was
― Ismael Klata, Thursday, 14 February 2013 19:36 (eleven years ago) link
Doesn't surprise me at all that My Bloody Valentine topped the poll, but it has surprised me that there was only one vote for Primal Scream... and I speak as someone who doesn't rate Primal Scream all that highly (I have a soft spot for early Primal Scream, mind).
― The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Thursday, 14 February 2013 20:25 (eleven years ago) link
Yeah - I know they're kind of at peak unfashionability these days, but Screamadelica always has admirers and I thought that xtrmntr and some of their later stuff was quite well-regarded.
― Ismael Klata, Thursday, 14 February 2013 20:35 (eleven years ago) link
it is. but its ilm
― pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Thursday, 14 February 2013 20:38 (eleven years ago) link
Yeah, I was pretty much thinking along similar lines! I'm not a big fan of either Screamadelica or XTRMNTR but I'm aware that those albums have plenty of fans. Oasis aren't terribly fashionable at the moment either, and probably haven't been for many years, but they still managed to put in a better performance, which makes me go "wut?". I can't help but suspect that at least one person voted Oasis just for 'teh LOLz', but then again, who knows?
― The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Thursday, 14 February 2013 20:45 (eleven years ago) link
actually the only good vocalist was Lawrence
― OutdoorFish, Thursday, 14 February 2013 20:50 (eleven years ago) link
You can understand Oasis provoking apathy - more difficult to understand them provoking anything else tbh - but Primal Scream have done enough stupid stuff that you'd think someone would stick up for the rest.

disclosure i only heard 2 and a half songs off it knowingly
― OutdoorFish, Thursday, 14 February 2013 21:12 (eleven years ago) link
There might be plenty of people who like Primal Scream, but who don't think Primal Scream were the *best* band on Creation.
or The Legend! - what an artist that wasThat was Everett True, wasn't it?
― A Yawning Chasm (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Thursday, 14 February 2013 21:41 (eleven years ago) link
It was. For all I know it could be brilliant. That's not how I imagine it though.
― Ismael Klata, Thursday, 14 February 2013 21:42 (eleven years ago) link
Disclosure: I've never heard him either.
― A Yawning Chasm (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Thursday, 14 February 2013 21:46 (eleven years ago) link
I've heard him talk. Beautiful speaking voice.
― Ismael Klata, Thursday, 14 February 2013 21:50 (eleven years ago) link
I was once sat near him on a train.
― A Yawning Chasm (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Thursday, 14 February 2013 21:51 (eleven years ago) link
Really.

Or someone who looked just like him.
he wheeled kurt cobain on stage in a wheelchair.
― OutdoorFish, Thursday, 14 February 2013 22:01 (eleven years ago) link
He spoke like a teenage Ken Livingstone with a lisp, iirc.
― Ismael Klata, Thursday, 14 February 2013 22:03 (eleven years ago) link
And he got a train from Brighton to London Bridge in 1992.
― A Yawning Chasm (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Thursday, 14 February 2013 22:04 (eleven years ago) link
Or someone who looked just like him did.
I missed this. I've really been enjoying the deluxe 3CD reissue of The House Of Love's first album and singles, so might have voted for them, though they are not historically my favorites. Also have enjoyed hearing Adorable and The Telescopes for the first time recently.
― Fastnbulbous, Thursday, 14 February 2013 22:07 (eleven years ago) link
He'd've been in Seattle in 1992, your identification must be erroneous
― Ismael Klata, Thursday, 14 February 2013 22:09 (eleven years ago) link
ooooh he introduced kurt to courtney.the legend destroys cobain.
― OutdoorFish, Thursday, 14 February 2013 22:17 (eleven years ago) link
xp did you consider approaching him on the London Bridge train that day? If it was him. Did you plan an opening line all out in your head? What would it have been?
― Ismael Klata, Thursday, 14 February 2013 22:28 (eleven years ago) link
probably was ET, he used to live in brighton before he emigrated. used to see him round town a lot, always shuffling about with a carrier bag full of records. bobby gillespie lived here too actually round about the same period.

In the early 1990s, True lived in Brighton
It checks out - his wikipedia entry is a godsend.
― Ismael Klata, Thursday, 14 February 2013 22:32 (eleven years ago) link
I considered saying "Hello - are you Everett True?". But then I decided against it. He was using a laptop (which seemed quite space-aged to me at the time), probably writing a gig review. Or something else, if it wasn't him.
― A Yawning Chasm (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Thursday, 14 February 2013 22:33 (eleven years ago) link
But it probably was.
he freelanced at Melbourne broadsheet, The Age, writing about public transport and having Roger Daltrey furiously smash a guitar thinking about him, live in concert. [citation needed]

A goldmine I tell you. Slightly disappointed it doesn't lapse into first person at all though.

Was toying with the idea of updating his wikipedia entry to mention that train journey.

Apparently he spent so long over the mix of 73 in 83 that Coppola ended up having to use 'The End' instead
