And he got a train from Brighton to London Bridge in 1992.

Or someone who looked just like him did.

I missed this. I've really been enjoying the deluxe 3CD reissue of The House Of Love's first album and singles, so might have voted for them, though they are not historically my favorites. Also have enjoyed hearing Adorable and The Telescopes for the first time recently.

He'd've been in Seattle in 1992, your identification must be erroneous

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 14 February 2013 22:09 (eleven years ago) link

ooooh he introduced kurt to courtney.
the legend destroys cobain.

OutdoorFish, Thursday, 14 February 2013 22:17 (eleven years ago) link

xp did you consider approaching him on the London Bridge train that day? If it was him. Did you plan an opening line all out in your head? What would it have been?

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 14 February 2013 22:28 (eleven years ago) link

probably was ET, he used to live in brighton before he emigrated. used to see him round town a lot, always shuffling about with a carrier bag full of records. bobby gillespie lived here too actually round about the same period.

In the early 1990s, True lived in Brighton

It checks out - his wikipedia entry is a godsend.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 14 February 2013 22:32 (eleven years ago) link

I considered saying "Hello - are you Everett True?". But then I decided against it. He was using a laptop (which seemed quite space-aged to me at the time), probably writing a gig review. Or something else, if it wasn't him.

But it probably was.

A Yawning Chasm (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Thursday, 14 February 2013 22:33 (eleven years ago) link

he freelanced at Melbourne broadsheet, The Age, writing about public transport and having Roger Daltrey furiously smash a guitar thinking about him, live in concert. [citation needed]

A goldmine I tell you. Slightly disappointed it doesn't lapse into first person at all though.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 14 February 2013 22:36 (eleven years ago) link

Was toying with the idea of updating his wikipedia entry to mention that train journey.

A Yawning Chasm (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Thursday, 14 February 2013 22:40 (eleven years ago) link

I'm surprised it's not there already, it covers everything else

Good God (xp)

A Yawning Chasm (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Thursday, 14 February 2013 22:48 (eleven years ago) link

Apparently he's still working on the follow-up

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 14 February 2013 22:48 (eleven years ago) link

According to wikipedia he comes from Chelmsford. You wouldn't guess it from his accent.

A Yawning Chasm (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Thursday, 14 February 2013 22:49 (eleven years ago) link

Apparently he spent so long over the mix of 73 in 83 that Coppola ended up having to use 'The End' instead

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 14 February 2013 22:51 (eleven years ago) link

Ditto for Tarantino with Little Green Bag

his review of southpaw grammar was good but had nothing on steve sutherland's review of kill uncle. Simply amazing.

Would an ET ballot poll work?

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 14 February 2013 22:58 (eleven years ago) link

Would've given the Membranes their only vote, if I'd seen this before now.

xhuxk, Thursday, 14 February 2013 23:31 (eleven years ago) link

never really think of the membranes as a creation band, did they put out much stuff with them?
