Ayreon, guys? I mean, seriously?

Just got a package from Galy containing the Neuraxis live CD and the Infected Malignity EP. The former is exactly as awesome as I expected; Neuraxis blew me away when I saw them on a Necrophagist/Arsis/Alarum bill in '05. The IM disc is equally impressive, but very different; melodic tech-death with almost hardcore-ish vocals. Six songs, 21 minutes and change. Came out early last month in the U.S.

Yeah, the Infected Malignity is surprisingly good, especially when compared to the band's rather plain previous full-length.

The Neuraxis, though, as I've said, is as great a live album as I've heard in recent years.

Hey Jordan don't be snobby about German rock operas, because...um.... Well, okay, you're probably right to be hating on Ayreon. But I've never heard them before, and I like them like I used to like Rush back in the day, and the new one is a lot better than you think. Lots of excellently cheesy power-metal vocalizing from Gotthard's Steve Lee!

If you hit the west side Buy & Sell you can probably get the first Ayreon album, I sold a ton of my high school metal cds there last month. :>

Woo hoo! If you go to Strictly Discs or Re-Play you can find a lot of dodgy world music albums...courtesy of me.

have a quick question, are either of these albums worth a lot of dough or worth keeping in the collection?

i got two recently for free that are sealed copies and i kinda want to listen to them but not if they are super collectible or something? or...if they are rockin' and awesome i'll keep 'em and listen to them...thx!

That Killer Dwarfs must be out of print. But the album itself was a bit of a dud (they were a really annoying band), so I don't know how valuable it really is.

"Heavy Mental Breakdown" was pretty much their greatest moment.

Don't know how many other Maiden geeks are here, but I was a giddy fanboy this afternoon, picking up the looong-awaited DVD release of Live After Death. Looks and sounds great so far, I'm 15 all over again. I can finally retire the VHS...

Got mine in yesterday's mail, and was just as giddy. Can't wait to check out the bonus footage from Russia and Rio.

So Phil's blog post yesterday about Braindrill compelled me to finally unearth it and give it a spin, and whaddya know, it's quite the nutty little death metal album. Some wicked playing on it, especially one track during the latter half that goes all Atheist on us. Not as great as the Hate Eternal disc, but definitely a bigger surprise.

I completely forgot my own Metal Shirt Moment yesterday -- was wearing my Carcass Heartwork shirt and was initially surprised by some guy who came to the library desk and was all "Dude, Carcass! They rule!"

I loved the with Tarja, Wishmaster is one of my favorite power metal albums ever, maybe even my favorite. Haven't heard the new stuff because as I've said elsewhere I WILL REP FOR YOU TARJA even if your pop turn smells like butts.

usually its grizzly old dudes in maiden or sacred reich shirts or metallica tour tees. And a couple of idiots in cradle of filth shirts. Im sure they wore them 10 years ago or more too.

Plenty of hot Latin girls wearing brutal DM tees at BB King's every time I've been there.

You will forgive me but I initially interpreted 'DM' as Depeche Mode. I would, though.

according to the official site, the new Opeth record is called Watershed, and one of the album castoffs is an Alice in Chains cover.

Plus a cover of a song by whatshername from Roxette! Can't wait to see the fanboys' reaction to that one.

also down south. most of my female coworkers are into mexican death metal. several of my male coworkers are in mexican death metal bands.

I have not heard any of the non-album tracks, which kinda bugs me - when Mikael comes to NYC to do press, I'm gonna pester him for a CD-R, just so I can hear them do "Bridge Of Sighs."

Yeah, ladies with Sodom and Destruction shirts are a dime a dozen in Portland.

But they all have dreds.

Okay, I got the Hermano album, and it's surprisingly good. Like, really good. Much catchier and groovier than QOTSA over the last few years, that's for sure.

I finally listened to Down III and have changed my mind about them. As much as it pains me to praise anything with Anselmo, I have to say it's great.
