The bass sound on Sly's "Family Affair" comes from the amp got shot in the woofer cause of drugs.

Zachary Taylor, Sunday, 28 April 2013 23:25 (eleven years ago) link

i heard that sly recorded his vocals for that album laying in bed. is that true?

Pat Finn, Sunday, 28 April 2013 23:27 (eleven years ago) link

1596. "The Amp Got Shot in the Woofer Cause of Drugs" initially appeared as the B-side to Sly and the Family Stone's 1971 hit, "Family Affair". This edition of single was pulled within days of its October 16 release date, however, when the FDA discovered that the vinyl used contained dangerously high levels of several toxic ketone compounds. When the single was re-released on 6 November 1971, the new pressing was backed with "Luv n' Haight". "The Amp Got Shot in the Woofer Cause of Drugs" has not since been released or compiled, and the few known copies of the original single (the volatile toxic compounds having long ago evaporated) trade for upwards of $1,000.

Pat Finn, Monday, 29 April 2013 00:18 (eleven years ago) link

fuck yeah. damn close anyway. and whether or not he did, he ought to have recorded it from bed. riot story i always heard (provenance dubious at best) is that the songs attains their softened, bleary-eyed vibe as the product of endless re-recordings on the same master. sly would bring a new girl into the studio "every night" and have her re-track this or that vocal part as part of some drug-fueled seduction routine. like check it baby, you're gonna be a star, see. stories...

In the village of Kapkatet, Kenya in the late 1990′s, members of the Kipsigi tribe somehow came across a few records of Sinead O'Connor. Convinced that such strange sounds could not come from a human, the voice was attributed to a centaur-like spirit they called Chenedokona. This half-man half-antelope is honored in fertility rites where young Kipsigi maidens dance seductively to the Sinead O'Connor records, begging her to join them in a leaping dance in hopes that Chenedokona will jump completely out of her clothes.

1612. The original title for Queen's 1977 album track, 'Get Down, Make Love', was originally 'Get Down, Make Loaves', and featured a different set of lyrics with a bread making theme to them. Brian May and John Deacon were apparently enthused by the original composition, but Roger Taylor decried the song as being a little "naff", leading Freddie Mercury to rewrite the lyrics based on a more universal, sexual theme. "We battled with Rog for ages over that one," recalls poodle-haired guitarist May, "we argued that it was perfectly acceptable for him to write songs about being in love with his car, but yet Fred writes this lovely, domesticated thing - quite a rarity for him - and suddenly there's a lot of protest. Warburtons even took an interest at one point, so we lost a lot of money in potential advertising income. Fred was sneaky though, and if you listen closely to the track, he is in fact singing 'loave' instead of 'love' at some points in the track as a bit of a fuck you to Rog."
