nothing special those two, new order on auto-pilot. i am sure there are lots of people who like that kind of stuff, i don't though. the end of my shack is the end of my world.

Both 'All The Way' and 'Guilty Partner' made it onto my ballot. I'm not going to give away any more of my ballot spoilers though... bring on the results! :D

dunno how "New Order on auto pilot" can ever be terrible when the alternative is "New Order and no pilot."

OK, I ranked the bottom 25 songs on my ballot now I somehow need to rank the top 15 ... damn you New Order and all your great songs I couldn't stop listening to all throughout high school.

"Guilty Partner" rules, especially the chorus

hope i'm not the only one that votes for Murder, Steve's galloping drumming sounding v much like Closer era JD

I vehemently disagree about "Age of Consent" not being separable from its arrangement

xpost. I would be interested to see if anyone has covered it with a different arrangement

xp no, that would be love less, run or mr disco. technique is so overrated. it has a shitty title, a horrible cover and lots of inferior songs. only all the way and dream attack save it from being one of the weakest no album.
― it's the distortion, stupid! (alex in mainhattan)
Lies! Technique is one of the five best albums ever released. What about Vanishing Point? Round & Round? Fine Time is probably my least favourite song on there just because it doesn't really fit with the other songs that well, on it's own it's still a 9/10 though.
― Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 22:06 (eleven years ago) link
been really enjoying Brutal lately, think I was expecting too much when it came out oh shit it cannot be 13 years ago
― woof, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 22:16 (eleven years ago) link
in the pre-Napster days I bought The Beach soundtrack just to own "Brutal."
― A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 22:17 (eleven years ago) link
Forgot all about that song, I have it on the Retro box set but that really doesn't get a lot of plays. They should have put it on Get Ready really, if only there was a song on there they could have easily got rid of..
― Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 22:21 (eleven years ago) link
'Age Of Consent' is what, two chords, a vocal melody and a keyboard hook? There's a lot you could do with those three elements.
― The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 22:21 (eleven years ago) link
I would rather rock the shack than show off my love technique.
― Euler, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 22:22 (eleven years ago) link
La Lechera mentioned above that she couldn't locate the ballad in 'Age Of Consent'... on a similar tack, I'm struggling to locate the logic and reasoning in much of what alex in mainhattan is posting here :/
― The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 22:30 (eleven years ago) link
Fwiw, Technique is hands down my favourite New Order album... to me it's their absolute peak and their best beginning-to-end full length. Stacks up very well against any "classic album" you could possibly name, too, in my very humble opinion.
― The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 22:33 (eleven years ago) link
Fine Time is probably my least favourite song on there just because it doesn't really fit with the other songs that well
"Fine Time" is awesome and they should have made an entire album of songs like that.
― NoTimeBeforeTime, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 22:33 (eleven years ago) link
I think 'Fine Time' is a brilliant opening statement, tbh... maybe if it was placed in the middle of the album it would stick out like a sore thumb, but because it's at the beginning its not as noticeable, I think.
― The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 22:36 (eleven years ago) link
was Technique always loved? Depends where you're from. When I discovered New Order in '91 it was immediately my favorite album, the likes of Rolling Stone championed Low Life, a consensus that stood for years. Meanwhile reading English mags in the early nineties the album was already canonized.
― A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 22:39 (eleven years ago) link
fine time is a fine opener.

Was it decided whether "Substance" counts as an album for the albums voting?

fyi you are not the only one voting for "Murder"

Technique and Low-Life both appeared in NME's best albums of all time list in 93. A few years later Melody Maker did an albums list that placed both those albums in similar positions. I always thought these were their two most popular albums but these days it feels like Power, Corruption & Lies has edged out Low-Life.
― Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 23:08 (eleven years ago) link
really? to me pcl together with brotherhood always seemed the weakest of all of their albums.
― it's the distortion, stupid! (alex in mainhattan), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 23:11 (eleven years ago) link
I always thought Brotherhood was seen as the weakest of their 80's albums, PCL has always had a big following I thought?
― Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 23:14 (eleven years ago) link
I'm not as fond of Brotherhood as I am some of their other albums... but hang on, it has 'Bizarre Love Triangle' on it! And this gorgeous slab of beauty which of course I'm not suggesting anyone vote for*

Yes, I'm still getting my ballot in order, but that song ('All Day Long') was an automatic inclusion.
― Austin, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 23:20 (eleven years ago) link
I really can't hear the usual charm in a lot of the Brotherhood tracks. It leaves me a little cold.
― kraudive, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 23:21 (eleven years ago) link
*not All Day Long or BLT.
― kraudive, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 23:22 (eleven years ago) link
Technique was always pretty much adored since day one iirc. NME had a rave, MM had that infamous Chris Roberts review(http://internettr✧✧✧.com/users/aldgate_e✧✧✧@utopi✧✧✧.d✧/techn.html) even Smash Hits gave it 9/10.
it went to number 1 in the UK, also it had an amazing TV advert

Substance is not an album. Singles is not an album. The Best of is not an album. 81/82 EP is the best single disc they've every released but it's not an album.
― brotherlovesdub, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 23:30 (eleven years ago) link
I love the sound of Brotherhood, what Andrew Harrison in a '93 Select reassessment called "the bass of Hook, hungover" over something.
― A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 23:35 (eleven years ago) link
Brotherhood is a good album but Low-Life and Technique are so perfect, it just doesn't compare. Along with Bizarre Love Triangle and All Day Long, Paradise is my other favourite on there. I do have a soft spot for Every Second Counts, more for the comedy value though.
― Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 23:41 (eleven years ago) link
I obviously mean Every Little Counts.
― Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 23:42 (eleven years ago) link
Substance is the first New Order album I fell in love with. That is why I voted for it.
― kraudive, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 23:42 (eleven years ago) link
Notable comps have always counted on these polls. If enough people vote for it, it counts.
― kraudive, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 23:43 (eleven years ago) link
Brotherhood really does work best on vinyl. The sides are sequenced well and the CDs all sound extra harsh to me. I've grown to love Brotherhood over the years but it still only placed 4th on my list.
― brotherlovesdub, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 23:46 (eleven years ago) link
I voted for ten albums Substance and then the eight studio albums plus Lost Sirens (spoiler alert that was not at the higher end of my list) I just figured Bee could decide what was allowed to be included.
― Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 23:52 (eleven years ago) link
My New Order ballot will probably look like my Fall ballot: Little to nothing released after 1990. They just lost me after Technique. I tried to listen to Get Ready while working on my ballot and nothing is really sticking. Are there any standout tracks on the last three or so albums?
― righteousmaelstrom, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 23:53 (eleven years ago) link
Turn, Waiting for the Sirens Call, Primitive Notion, Vicious Streak, Someone Like You, Morning Night and Day, Here To Stay
― brotherlovesdub, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 23:55 (eleven years ago) link
Yes! "Crystal," "Run Wild," "Morning Night and Day," "Waiting For the Siren's Call," "Krafty," "Someone Like You."
― A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 23:55 (eleven years ago) link
It's not on an album but "Here to Stay" is gorgeous.
― A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 23:57 (eleven years ago) link
These guys have covered the last two albums, maybe I'd add Hey Now What You Doing. I love Run Wild, Vicious Streak and Waiting For The Siren's Call. Republic has Regret, World, Ruined in a Day, Everyone Everywhere and Special.
― Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 00:00 (eleven years ago) link
I liked Regret and it will likely make the ballot. I'll need to check out the other ones though. I might have heard them before but didn't want to wade through a lot of dross to get to the good stuff.
― righteousmaelstrom, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 00:04 (eleven years ago) link
xp yeah Here To Stay is their only decent song post-Republic aside from Crystal IMO.
― piscesx, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 00:10 (eleven years ago) link
was /Technique/ always loved?
That says more about my tastes when I was 16 than Technique however -- which is sort of indisputably my favorite New Order record now.
I simply did not get New Order then.
― Naive Teen Idol, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 00:38 (eleven years ago) link
While I had heard Substance before, Technique was the first NO album I owned (after watching the video for Fine Time on 120 Minutes several times and was finally won over) and I was a huge Joy Division fan at the time!
