Is there a way to track the tag back to the user who made it? (Or back to the artist that it's about?)

I guess you could input it into last.fm and see what the result is (or google would probably provide the same thing) but there doesn't seem to be that functionality on the page.

okay, back to serious business...what 3rd party apps are there that can let me scrobble streaming radio? i listen to radio in itunes but i'm not opposed to listening in winamp or another program if necessary.

has been a while since i listened to radio on the comp but iirc the last.fm client scrobbles streaming radio automatically. i use wmp though.

"amiga demoscene mod" is my favourite from my taglist. It appears to be from a Spaceman song that I don't remember playing.

Close second is "gothabilly" which I won't search for as it might not be as good as it sounds, then "not fucking shoegaze you idiots" :)

Whether that data sharing thing is true or not, I think it illustrates what last.fm's business model might be, i.e. datamining.

Which shouldnt be hard since their recent albums have been utter utter shit. And thats coming from someone who U2 was their fave band at school.

I don't think the story can be true. To begin with, Techcrunch doesn't provide a solid source for it.

I also don't think last.fm is 'datamining', like Neil S. said. They're 'mining' data alright, but only to the degree a member/subscriber agrees to. Now, I don't like it one bit last.fm was bought by CBS, don't trust them at all, but I can't really see why it's beneficial for CBS to turn over all this information. It's suicide.
I don'trust CBS, and I'm on the look-out regarding privacy matters, but I just don't really see the logic behind a step like this. Unless the U2-case creates a precedent where people who are scrobbling albums not released yet become the target. In which case it's RIP last.fm.

CBS could easily handover data without last fm knowing. I think whether it's true or not last fm will lose a lot of users/subscribers now as people will not trust CBS.
