a hard dom is good to find (Edward III), Sunday, 15 September 2013 03:24 (eleven years ago) link

bleak thudding to add an invigorating downward spiral to yr weekend:

Exael: Altars – bed-spin aesthetics delivering sweet seething f/ time-crunched huffers: http://beerontherug.bandcamp.com/track/altars

OOBE: SFTCR III –cliff-dropped rave convulsing in a footwork circle before devolving into infomercial bliss: http://opaltapes.bandcamp.com/track/sftcr-iii

MCMXCI: Untitled I - acid-tech industrial squawk conveniently compatible w/ all yr fave car-crash gifs: http://opaltapes.bandcamp.com/track/untitled-1

Patricia: smeared techno/house/industrial slow-burners that deftly work the DMZ between uplift and nervous collapse:
-Waiting For Alexis: http://opaltapes.bandcamp.com/track/waiting-for-alexis
-Patricia: Josephine: http://opaltapes.bandcamp.com/track/josephine

Shxcxchcxsh: LDWGWTT – fuck the name, but they built an inviting UFO that happens to be bolted to the concrete patio and fragrantly choked w/ dope clouds: http://youtu.be/giUixFfeeNM (also happens to sound like a reworked version of this: Dom + Roland: Jungle Beast - http://youtu.be/N9_Y_uoPcXM)

Somaticae: Pointless – the rest of the rec is shit, but Pointless marries the monochromatic machine murmur of mutant techno to Justin Martin’s impact fanaticism.

EIII, you should post the vid you sent on YT and link it itt (why b/c it just feels right).

Torn Hawk aka Luke Wyatt has f/ the past year been grinding away at the parameters of lo-fi bedroom-psych, releasing roughly 900 tracks that gyrate between v-wave, outsider/hipster house, noise, instrumental hip-hip and ramshackle krautrock contraptions for L.I.E.S., Beer on the Rug and I'll put 90% odds on Not Not Fun w/in six months. his best work atm is opiate-laced motorik rambling heavily scented w/ v-wave’s urban anomie (+ occasional psych guitar thrown in f/ full genre demolition):

Torn Hawk - Shock Tape: http://youtu.be/iduOpG1yxN4
Torn Hawk - Mark of the Hound: http://youtu.be/CUqYTxURVAk
Torn Hawk + Karen Gwyer: Gauze (Sped): http://youtu.be/GnbpS2LKI4E

Hellhouse, Sunday, 29 September 2013 15:07 (ten years ago) link

(i)as hard as I try I just can't get angry about this(/i)

needs at least another ten minutes of idiot rhymes and synth blurping. feeling rather cheated by the lackadaisical commitment to a truly appalling aesthetic.

Hellhouse, Sunday, 29 September 2013 15:21 (ten years ago) link

torn hawk is cool

flopson, Sunday, 29 September 2013 17:14 (ten years ago) link

just good music to have on, u know

flopson, Sunday, 29 September 2013 17:16 (ten years ago) link

^

yeah, despite having a moniker that sounds like a Napoleon Dynamite reference, a lot of Wyatt's material is p. chill w/out being too twee. simmers nicely in the background.

Hellhouse, Sunday, 29 September 2013 20:46 (ten years ago) link

outsider/hipster house

you should be banned for this tbh

Hellhouse, Monday, 30 September 2013 00:54 (ten years ago) link

not to derail this thread or to ignore the fine work that Hellhouse/E3/everyone is doing in here, but bumping this thread seems to be a good way to get imago's attention so

have you ended up listening to Micachu's album from last year, Never? What did you think of it? Because I'm listening through it for the first time (both artist and album) and I am p enthralled. I will probably listen to it again right away. Lots of looney tunes weirdness and crazy left turns but, like, less precious then that implies...

I have and I love it. One of the most significant artists working in Britain. She and Conman Mockasin are leading the DIY psych vanguard imo

Especially adore Holiday, Heaven, Fall and Nothing - wonky bliss the lot

Got a few things to post here when I get home, actually

Kayo Dot's new album is decent, a bit disappointing in sum perhaps, but the motherfucking first two tracks, man. Especially the opener (contains: abstract growling, intense avant-merry-go-round build-up, brutality)

Incredible and unique concept album project organised by some ex-Cardiacs dudes, featuring compositions by ILX's own Dominique Leone, Foetus, Max Tundra and several other luminaries. The idea is that...well, watch the trailer. Then buy it.

Oh btw, Jordan,

will probably have to get both that album & the one from march.

imago, Saturday, 12 October 2013 12:00 (ten years ago) link

All this looks great; I haven't forgotten about Jute Gyte, I have high expectations for that album

Have you heard the new Melt Banana yet? Is it any good? Spin was streaming but I got too busy tp check it ouy

outsider house rules (Drugs A. Money), Saturday, 12 October 2013 12:14 (ten years ago) link

Not heard new Melt-Banana but their studio stuff will never live up to their live show so I don't really bother

imago, Saturday, 12 October 2013 12:16 (ten years ago) link

Purchasing that BLANCHE BLANCHE BLANCHE album from earlier this year, btw. So stoked to hear it all.

have been slogging thru the Jute Gyte archives looking f/ more oblique guitar blasts outside of Discontinuities. Senescence, Isolation and Impermanence all deliver, Verstiegenheit and Young Eagle are v. good but more conventional (poss. transitional) ~black metal~, but his “first” guitar rec Old Ways (2008) is a notable shot at max saturation through the timeless thug-craft of brutally compressed Vitamix guitars smothering a sputtering drumbox + default yelling at listeners (a delight f/ meth buffs who slam Filosofem as tepid pop confectionery). Kalmbach’s IDM recs from the same period are relatively polished + polite and I’d like to think that his My-War-era-BF-mangling-Contrary-Motion-in-the-Port-Authority-men’s-room production is an entirely deliberate noize/metal venture but ymmv:

Yeah I'll have to delve into those. The man is so prolific but I won't hold that against him.

The same can be said to your contributions here which I'm going to have to chew through at some stage!

going to spend some quality time w/ the Gerogerigegege thread (they only have 97 releases, shouldn't take v. long)

Hellhouse, Saturday, 19 October 2013 00:43 (ten years ago) link

haven't listened to it all yet, but sounding good so far and they're great live - the devil album's finally out (comprising James Sedwards from Nought, Ben Waller from the Country Teasers and Sophie from Wetdog - on bandcamp here.

lj - ha, yeah, when i said "5 friends" i meant C0ugar. we all went to school together. the track i posted is the original, and it samples the drumming of the dude who later started C0ugar and covered 'Endings' because it's such a dope composition.
