Has anyone at Modular or involved with the group come out with the annual "It's definitely going to be released next year" quote yet?
― groovypanda, Friday, 22 November 2013 09:10 (ten years ago) link
Fake or not?

I hope it is, at least.

Ha! The guy who made the song wrote a funny tweet about it.

jesse @yaperwaveyou don't now disappointment until you think you're about to hear a new avalanches track and you hit play and hear one of your shitty songs10:55 AM - 14 Jan 2015
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 14 January 2015 21:10 (nine years ago) link
this is good. been wondering who's making fun sample-based music recently.
(would be very happy if someone made fun of me for ignoring artists X, Y and Z here)

I kinda wish they never release the follow-up and it becomes a meme for upcoming releases every year for the next 100 years.
― Moka, Wednesday, 14 January 2015 21:32 (nine years ago) link
When I was listening to the track on soundcloud this morning, my heart was sinking. Partly because it's probably what any new Avalanches material will resemble and partly because I don't think I want to hear Since I Left You pt. II
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 14 January 2015 21:34 (nine years ago) link
good news!
you never will

This album is fucking GREAT! Can't stop playing it. Album of the year.

it's too cold for it now, I have put it in hibernation
― ogmor, Friday, 21 October 2016 21:10 (seven years ago) link
I can't hang with the vocals on this record at all... otherwise it's quite nice
― brimstead, Friday, 21 October 2016 21:41 (seven years ago) link
Using rappers was a bad move – destroys the entire spell of timelessness.
And Frankie Sinatra should be buried halfway through the record, not track three.
Other than that I love it.

On course for 2032 release

"There’s people we’re writing with as we speak, one person mainly. Songs are being developed with the artists attached as we go from the ground up, which is really cool—I can’t talk too much about that though. I’m excited and I’m pretty sure a record will come pretty quickly, but I’ve been wrong about that before."

Kind of interesting how different "Wild Flower" looked (and judging from the tracklisting, sounded) 18 months or so before it finally got released:

Ugh Frankie Sinatra was such a terrible lead single.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 13 February 2018 10:22 (six years ago) link
honestly i don't get why frankie sinatra is so... polarizing
i mean i can get it's got elements in it that might be on the grating side for some people and i can see how it'd leave some undersatisfied impressions in the "this is meant to be the flag-bearer for the follow-up to SILY?"
but it grew on me, especially the whole " 1 bar pause - couple bars from DOOM - another one bar pause - rest of his verse", which imo is the kinda thing that would've fit snugly into SILY II (which let's be real, we shouldn't have expected from a shrunken lineup 16 years later that might not be able to get away with that degree of sampling this time round
on that kind of note, any thoughts on the deluxe reissue they've been talking about since 2011?

also 'running red lights' was fine the first time but I have no need to ever hear it again.

yep
the whole vibe of the current incarnation just sounds crowded-but-empty to me

when your medium is "sample collage", diminishing returns are almost inevitable.

I remember them playing in New York at SOBs in 2001 or 2002 with six turntables – I think I had a poster for the show, though who knows what happened to it!
