search: broadcast terrorizing twee umbrellas of cherbourg fans who think integrity = dressing like 70 year olds with eye-meltingly loud sine wave sweeps

destroy: interpol, morris dancing

search: "me & giuliani down by the schoolyard (a remix)", !!! vs lfo. lfo wins!

haitch has some respect for artists (haitch), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 23:41 (eighteen years ago) link

B12 was a total Detroit worshiping outfit, even down to tracks with Blade Runner references, but I really liked "Time Tourist" which is really lush I love their record "3EP", that one has some great jazzy drum programming.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 23:43 (eighteen years ago) link

destroy: almost everything, post-drukqs.

warp really trumped all those people who were like "can it get any more forgettable than drukqs?" by releasing like ten albums more forettable than drukqs.

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 23:45 (eighteen years ago) link

the rolling stones was a total mississippi delta worshiping outfit, even down to ...

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 23:45 (eighteen years ago) link

seriously, the only good things since geogaddi were like confield, 1/2 of LFO's sheath and 4 tracks from drukqs.

it's time for everyone to admit that broadcast sucks now. they lost it long before "haha sound" came out.

search: LFO - "What Is House? (LFO mix)"

I grabbed this off bleep thanks to some ilxor who described as something like "improbably spacious".

Lukas (lukas), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 23:53 (eighteen years ago) link

two years pass...

So, how's that new Clark album?

For some one who loves IDM tinged house a la Sutekh or Alex Smoke, is this something necessary to investigate?

mehlt, Friday, 29 February 2008 05:48 (sixteen years ago) link

Although the brief clips I heard just made it sound like really typical mid 00's IDM with more of a 4/4 emphasis. But I guess that's why you're the judge and I'm the law talking guy.

mehlt, Friday, 29 February 2008 05:49 (sixteen years ago) link

i listened to the last clark album (body riddle) loads when it was first released but have barely touched it since. why is this?

sam500, Friday, 29 February 2008 08:18 (sixteen years ago) link

actually i think he really started to develop his own sound with body riddle. will probably return to it at some point...

the new one is supposed to me more dancefloor orientated apparently.

seven months pass...

So I'm kind of after something with a similar sensibility to Flying Lotus at the moment, but, er, a bit smoother and less busy. I can almost hear it in my head. Does such a thing exist? Doesn't have to be on Warp, by the way.

chap, Sunday, 5 October 2008 23:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Plone. For Beginner Piano. (though Press a key on some obscure label is even better).

The Chris Morris Jam CD and the incidental music.

Sven Hassel Schmuck, Sunday, 5 October 2008 23:25 (fifteen years ago) link

Surely late Warp deserves some props for Battles - Atlas?

BTW, seen the video for Parisian Goldfish, speaking of Parisian Lotus? I didn't know whether to smile or be appalled. :)

Treblekicker, Sunday, 5 October 2008 23:27 (fifteen years ago) link

oops Parisian Goldfish by Flying Lotus...

Treblekicker, Sunday, 5 October 2008 23:29 (fifteen years ago) link

Plone sounds pretty nice, cheers Sven.

chap, Sunday, 5 October 2008 23:29 (fifteen years ago) link

love that plone album. recently got hold of the unreleased followup but haven't spent a lot of time with it yet. plone dude is now mike in mono, peddling a similar if slightly more spritely line in poppy electronica

jonty alouette (electricsound), Sunday, 5 October 2008 23:31 (fifteen years ago) link

Plone were lovely and very, very, underrated but heard nothing more afterwards, so must check out mike in mono stuff, thanks for the tip jonty.

Sven Hassel Schmuck, Sunday, 5 October 2008 23:37 (fifteen years ago) link

Been years since I even heard of Plone, will try digging up some of that old stuff. Remember liking it back then.

sonderangerbot, Sunday, 5 October 2008 23:42 (fifteen years ago) link

The first single, Press a Key, is just gorgeous.

Warp is doing their own song search right now with this Warp20 compilation and website. Has anyone else voted/contributed?

mh, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 13:22 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah i voted:

AFX - Laughable Butane Bob
Link - Amazon Amenity (Chameleon Mix)
Squarepusher - Journey To Reedham
Seefeel - Spangle
LFO - Psycodelik
Boards Of Canada - Orange Romeda
Broadcast - Dave's Dream
Anti-Pop Consortium - Ghostlawns
Luke Vibert - Synthax
Sabres Of Paradise - Wilmot

altho probably pointless to vote for obscurer tracks by the bigger artists if you want them to make it onto the compilation

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 13:26 (fifteen years ago) link

i voted, can't remember what for, probably only for an ae track anyway. what i wanna know is when are this bitches gonna get more stuff on spotify

massive dynamic lady (ledge), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 14:04 (fifteen years ago) link

Me too.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 14:43 (fifteen years ago) link

Given I used to work for them I have paid surprisingly little interest to them in years. I should go and vote though.

Prince of Persia (Ed), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 14:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Man, the current chart is full of Grizzly Bear and Flying Lotus. There was me thinking I should think really hard and vote for something a little less obvious than "Eutow" or "Tricky Disco" or whatever, but looks like us old 90s fogeys got to represent.

(says someone who's also going to vote for like Brothomstates and maybe V.L.A.D. and all that other turn-of-century stuff that made the real 90s heads disown Warp and don't-call-it-IDM forever)

a passing spacecadet, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:46 (fifteen years ago) link

vote the other people place!

languid samuel l. jackson (jim), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 16:02 (fifteen years ago) link

Voted for these:

Red Snapper - Crusoe Takes a Trip
Nightmares on Wax - Aftermath
Black Dog - Chase the Manhattan
Two Lone Swordsmen - Sticky
LFO - Tied Up (Sweep Mix)
Jake Slazenger - Nautilus
Boards of Canada - Telephasic Workshop
DJ Mink - Hey! Hey! Can U Relate?
Mike Ink - Paroles (Mike Ink Remix 96)
F.U.S.E. - F.U.

man saves ducklings from (ledge), Thursday, 11 June 2009 15:19 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah, but there's a danger it'll be too pretty to sell and you won't be able to part with it.

buy -> develop star-trek replicator -> replicate -> ebay

man saves ducklings from (ledge), Thursday, 11 June 2009 15:24 (fourteen years ago) link

one hundred pounds works as a price tag because warp fans are exactly the sort of bojos who go for box sets with fancy artwork etc.

suggestzybandias (jim), Thursday, 11 June 2009 15:25 (fourteen years ago) link

I dunno what bojos are, but I do like sound of that word.

Enemy Insects (NickB), Thursday, 11 June 2009 15:29 (fourteen years ago) link

Fucking bojos.

Enemy Insects (NickB), Thursday, 11 June 2009 15:29 (fourteen years ago) link

i don't know why i typed it but it's from Back to the Future 2.

suggestzybandias (jim), Thursday, 11 June 2009 15:30 (fourteen years ago) link

Okay, that word sucks.

i fail to understand the logic that goes "sales are falling year over year so let's design and market ever more expensive and exclusive goods"

society for cutting up (tricky), Thursday, 11 June 2009 15:39 (fourteen years ago) link

I know they still release some interesting stuff every now and then, but I already thought the Warp 10 3x2 compilations were like, let's look back at the good old days that ended about four years ago (then).

StanM, Thursday, 11 June 2009 15:41 (fourteen years ago) link

9 I Wanna Be Your STD Jimmy Edgar
10 Herzog Clark

kinda o_O rated to me - or at least, i know the top 8 really well but not these

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Thursday, 11 June 2009 15:42 (fourteen years ago) link

same here, and i understand the logic of the exclusivity now: get the people who have the money to blow to subsidize the inevitable piracy.

the warp 10 comps are still great!

society for cutting up (tricky), Thursday, 11 June 2009 15:49 (fourteen years ago) link

favourite warp era was 96-02 for me.

"i fail to understand the logic that goes "sales are falling year over year so let's design and market ever more expensive and exclusive goods"

it's completely logical and it will sell out within days of going on sale.

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Thursday, 11 June 2009 16:47 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm digging the new Tim Exile album "Listening Tree" - epic stuff!

dog latin, Thursday, 11 June 2009 16:47 (fourteen years ago) link

it will sell out within days of going on sale.

"Due to the premium specification of the item, there can only be one pressing. The quantity manufactured will be based largely on these early preorders, so ordering before 5th July will also guarantee you a copy."

Guaranteed sell out!

man saves ducklings from (ledge), Thursday, 11 June 2009 16:48 (fourteen years ago) link

color me bojo, i just ordered one.

pshrbrn, Thursday, 11 June 2009 17:02 (fourteen years ago) link

I'd looooove to get the other 10+ box sets (I have the remixes one). never really bothered with ebay or anything, but I don't think those go cheap either.

EDB, Thursday, 11 June 2009 17:47 (fourteen years ago) link

tBD dude is awful. incredible they were ever able to work together at all. the pre-warp 12"s are some of my favourite recors of the era and i always assume the tracks i love were made by the other two.

few arguments to be made against an album that has Chesh on it
