i could believe Kanye as a straight up MPC head who lets other people do the Protools gruntwork though

any time I hear "this or that very rich producer hasn't kept up with the tech" I believe it tbh

yeah, why would Kanye ever need to touch Pro Tools, i can see him as a hardware-only dude (samplers/drum machines/synths).

seeing him tonight, no opener, last night in PA he played 40 songs (!!!)

On Sight New Slaves Send It Up Mercy Power Cold I Don't Like (Chief Keef cover)Clique Black Skinhead I Am a God
^^ this run of the show is seriously spectacular
i think it drags a bit in the middle and then there's some weird cognitive dissonance when he starts performing, like "good life" under purple, blue and green lights
but the first like 20 mins or so are unfuckwithable

not gonna see the tour tonight, which i'm cool with. last Kanye show i saw was pretty lame and most of the descriptions of this one are kinda off-putting even when they're raves. nice to see that the College Dropout anniversary apparently made him nostalgic enough to pull out some songs he hasn't played in a while, though.

lol i only browsed the list and said to my gf kanye played 40 songs a few nights ago and she was like what? what did he do like new workout plan? and i was like well obv no i dont think that

ugh this is pretty much what i hate most about kanye. spelling "this is art" out in those words = full-body shudder in any context. SHOW. DON'T. TELL.
― lex pretend, Monday, 17 February 2014 23:52 (ten years ago) link
same. he's been spoonfeeding signifiers that he is more Respectable and Innovative than other hip hop artists for a long time but out and out saying he is a genius who makes great art is some facepalm shit.

"What more can you ask for? The international asshole who complains about what he is owed and throws a tantrum like he is three years old, you gotta love it though somebody still speaks from his soul."
He def knows he is behaving in a way that appears super undignified to most.

Went to the concert late last year and thought it was pretty awesome, but the story about the fan yelling for him to take off the mask is lol cuz I that was the main thing I thought was kinda lame
Kendrick was cool but I thought the sound was mixed a little off, everything blended together

There's a trailer for a Hype Williams-directed concert film of some sort on his website. It's the same trailer that was shown with his appearance on Seth Meyers' show earlier this week, though we weren't told at the time that it was for a film.
― Murgatroid, Thursday, 27 February 2014 19:09 (ten years ago) link
I wonder how successful it will be since I heard a few reports on Twitter of some shows having like, half-empty stadiums and whatnot. If people don't want to see him live, why would they see him in a concert film at a movie theater?
― Murgatroid, Thursday, 27 February 2014 19:10 (ten years ago) link
wow, I'm psyched, was really hoping there'd be a film of this since I didn't have an opportunity to see it IRL

the short trailer from seth meyers looked cool; from my seats at the show i couldnt see the backdrop screen images @ all, i feel like that couldve added a lot
his perf on seth meyers was also good, the end of him flipping the mic stand, dropping the mic and walking out all worked, great lighting

Seth Meyers performance was pretty lame, I thought -- maybe a career-spanning medley is a good idea if the network will give you a block of ten minutes or more, but doing just a chorus of all but a couple songs just felt disjointed and pointless.
