3 mins in this death grips reminds me a bit of hecq, probably for no reason other than to let everyone know i've heard of hecq

idk these days i only get attached to music where the melodies practically beat me round the head. most of my year was spent obsessively listening to every song max martin's ever been involved with

Dawn of Midi was my #1 album. It's the 9-movement piece for free jazz trio Steve Reich never wrote, the sound of restraint on the perpetual verge of explosion.

Here's the top 20 from my list (I added 5 to pad things out).

The Kniφe - Shaking the Habitual
BRAIDS - Flourish // Perish

7/25, I really shouldn't bother

sleeve, Friday, 31 January 2014 00:22 (ten years ago) link

I think a good few here feel the same. I got 5/25 lol

۩, Friday, 31 January 2014 00:25 (ten years ago) link

yeah, i think i had 8 that placed. not very in touch with the hive-mind.

Daniel, Esq 2, Friday, 31 January 2014 00:26 (ten years ago) link

you all realize there were a bunch of us that had between 0 and 2 place, right?

^ enlightening post (sarahell), Friday, 31 January 2014 00:29 (ten years ago) link

albums with lots of votes but only in middle of ballots do tend to beat out a few niche things with lots of enthusiasm but what can you do? Larger rollout wouldn't make that much of a difference now unlike earlier years. It's pretty hard to get fans of more niche stuff to vote as either they dislike polls or dont think it's worth voting. I suppose rolling threads make it hard for stuff to crossover unless big publications pick up on it (see deafheaven)

۩, Friday, 31 January 2014 00:30 (ten years ago) link

unless we take a cue from politicians and unite our niche votes -- like what do you all call it over there, a coalition government?

^ enlightening post (sarahell), Friday, 31 January 2014 00:31 (ten years ago) link

I had 6 place and I feel like that's a pretty good showing.

investigating this dubious claim now.

Daniel, Esq 2, Friday, 31 January 2014 00:32 (ten years ago) link

it's true

I like yr coalition idea sarahell

I could have been more active on the campaigning thread but basically I don't have enough time

maybe next year

sleeve, Friday, 31 January 2014 00:33 (ten years ago) link

the poll clearly represents what the majority of ilxors who vote are listening to and that's all polls can do. It also leads to a few people checking out albums lower down which is great.

۩, Friday, 31 January 2014 00:34 (ten years ago) link

I feel like emil.y's campaigning for hot fruit was successful

^ enlightening post (sarahell), Friday, 31 January 2014 00:34 (ten years ago) link

i don't like the coalition idea one bit but i do think that loads of awesome obscure shit could stand to be proselytised better

141 Jute Gyte - Discontinuities 142 drake - nothing was the same (imago), Friday, 31 January 2014 00:34 (ten years ago) link

sincerely tho i hope everybody who didn't vote for Beyoncé dies in the next 3 months

Squidward Ka-Spel (Noodle Vague), Friday, 31 January 2014 00:36 (ten years ago) link

i will only listen to albums that 500 people or fewer have heard. anything else is impure.

scheduling this now.

Daniel, Esq 2, Friday, 31 January 2014 00:36 (ten years ago) link

i'll make sure to spend my final 3 months continuing to not listen to beyonce

ciderpress, Friday, 31 January 2014 00:38 (ten years ago) link

I was going to say I only didn't vote for it because I hadn't heard it, but actually I don't like the whole thing, and I'd probably have gone the route of just voting for 'Flawless' in the tracks poll. So yeah, I'll sort out the dying in three months thing.

emil.y, Friday, 31 January 2014 00:38 (ten years ago) link

sarahell in practice it might work like a coalition, so long as the music's good enough, course

keiji cretins (NickB), Friday, 31 January 2014 00:39 (ten years ago) link

whether "the music's good enough" is a matter of objective fact.

Daniel, Esq 2, Friday, 31 January 2014 00:39 (ten years ago) link

I think I missed the fact that Fuzz was nominated. The stuff I've heard from that album has been pretty cool.

^ enlightening post (sarahell), Friday, 31 January 2014 00:44 (ten years ago) link

That Flaming Lips album was really underrated btw, it's the best, weirdest, darkest thing they've done in years.

Fuzz album is so good, just straight up rock music with killer riffs.

Immediate Follower (NA), Friday, 31 January 2014 00:46 (ten years ago) link

I'm always happy with the things that I get turned on to in these polls even if the music I hold near & dear comes in at #292.

didn't mean to sound like I was complaining, and yeah it's a lot of voters so that's reflected.

I like the Fuzz album, have not heard Flaming Lips but I was cool w/Embryonic so I should check it out

sleeve, Friday, 31 January 2014 00:49 (ten years ago) link

I dont know if seandalai can do it? But glenn used to produce the results if you just counted everyones top 10 and I'd like to see the difference between both.
I think they might be really interesting.
