I really can't remember the last time I was this excited about a debut album by someone. It might have actually been for Attack of the Grey Lantern by Mansun back in 1997 (probably shouldn't admit that on here, right?)

Album is now up for pre-order. Rough Trade are selling the CD with an exclusive seven track CD (featuring new tracks, long versions, edits and instrumentals) Could be good but think I'm going to have to go with the vinyl on this one.

"Delorean Dynamite", unsuprisingly, sounds a lot like Laserhawk (1, 2, 3).

I know it's been done a million times but I still love Delorean Dynamite! Doing Telex-style tracks is like the dance music version of playing jazz standards. The way it opens up in the second half is very uplifting!

Agreed. "Norse" just doesn't work as an album-capping climax when it's been around for years now. Nor does "Strandbar" work as well pared down to 4 minutes.

That said, first listen was pretty great.

As someone who also had impossibly high expectations for this, I was not disappointed in the slightest. It's just so much fun all the way through. Can't wait to play it when it gets nicer out.

I really can't be doing with the corny white tuxedo lounge wibbling in the first third of this, even though I was expecting it from the second I saw the cover.

I like this album but could have done without the Bryan Ferry song.

though agreeing with matt dc for the most part now

I like it quite a bit from Strandbar onwards, fwiw, but it feels frustratingly lopsided as a single listen.

Oh Joy is def not the standout for me.

I love the first set of tracks. They have a total Rinder & Lewis feel to them.

"Oh Joy" hasn't really grown on me yet.
