Freaking out a bit at how good this is. She got it fixed just so I could fuck it up!

Plaxico (I know, right?), Friday, 6 March 2009 10:31 (fifteen years ago) link

ships laughs at me for liking that kind of thing the first time, but The-Dream himself knows he's onto something good.

I haven't heard this yet, but looking forward. I will make a So So Scandalous entry for each song maybe.

speaking of which, would anyone like to assure me there's no songs like "ditch that" on this album before i listen to it?

Not as great as Love/Hate (could not have expected that), but very good.

"Walkin On the Moon" = awesomeness

WOTM also has my favorite Kanye rap in some time (and that synth found all over New Order records circa 1989)

The Screaming Lobster of Challops (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 6 March 2009 19:08 (fifteen years ago) link

My initial impression is that the record isn't quite as lush or hooky as the first. I REALLY like "Walkin' on the Moon", "Fancy", and especially "Kelly's 12 Play", which somehow lived up the title and then some.

The Reverend (rev), Friday, 6 March 2009 19:10 (fifteen years ago) link

Oh, and "Mr. Yeah" has the most brilliant bit on the album with the whole "lovin' on my ella/ touchin' on my ella/ chillin' with my ella" riff.

My initial impression is that the record isn't quite as lush or hooky as the first.

i agree with this - i think it's missing something like "purple kisses" or "luv songs" (that said the ballads on this are awesome) (maybe sensual is the word, in terms of production), and i'm not sold on the tranciness of the "love vs. money" pairing, but the sonics in general are just sooo massive. tricky and LOS took it next universe w/ the beats

wow heaven is cool (J0rdan S.), Friday, 6 March 2009 22:01 (fifteen years ago) link

let it be known though that i wasn't enamored w/ love/hate until feb or march of last year (then it became one of my fav records of the decade) so i know this is going grow on me

wow heaven is cool (J0rdan S.), Friday, 6 March 2009 22:08 (fifteen years ago) link

there is seriously so much going on in this album...am going to need some time for it to sink in. holy shit, the orchestral climax to 'love vs money pt 2' though.

lex pretend, Friday, 6 March 2009 22:11 (fifteen years ago) link

for those who didn't keep up w/ the leaks compare this demo of "right side of my brain"

http://www.zshare.net/audio/56637281807e9b14/

with the one on the album for a good perspective on how ridiculous these arrangements are

wow heaven is cool (J0rdan S.), Friday, 6 March 2009 22:18 (fifteen years ago) link

so...what is up with that intro

Getting it. I think this is MORE detailed, MORE lush.

Plaxico (I know, right?), Saturday, 7 March 2009 00:51 (fifteen years ago) link

Also more contrast, like the most swirling immersive arrangements can pull away to arid drums.

Plaxico (I know, right?), Saturday, 7 March 2009 00:52 (fifteen years ago) link

the intro is so weird

autogoblin (surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally), Saturday, 7 March 2009 00:52 (fifteen years ago) link

other than that it's really really good from beginning to end. i have only listened to it once and haven't read any of the discussion on here since I dl'ed it, but it's such a complete album. it's like AOR&B. very dope.

autogoblin (surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally), Saturday, 7 March 2009 00:56 (fifteen years ago) link

intro on mine is just nine seconds of hiss.

― autogoblin (surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally), Friday, March 6, 2009 7:52 PM (48 minutes ago)

question is, wtf is it? at first, i took it as a projector revving up -- meant to signify the album's "cinematic" sound. could it be the sound of a money printer in action?

pearsonic, Saturday, 7 March 2009 01:43 (fifteen years ago) link

it's a cash register?

autogoblin (surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally), Saturday, 7 March 2009 01:48 (fifteen years ago) link

It sounds SO FAMILIAR

Plaxico (I know, right?), Saturday, 7 March 2009 01:50 (fifteen years ago) link

lol are we talking about the same nine second throwaway intro here? what's the big deal?

yeah more posts about the nine second intro please

Can't stop listening to Sweat It Out

Plaxico (I know, right?), Saturday, 7 March 2009 03:02 (fifteen years ago) link

"call me ali the way i knocked your ass out" takes on a chilling context post-chris brown

wow heaven is cool (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 7 March 2009 03:10 (fifteen years ago) link

rap verse in "put it down" is pretty great

wow heaven is cool (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 7 March 2009 03:11 (fifteen years ago) link

I love "Put It Down" for those flanged LOS drums that I may never tire of, but I feel like he's getting a little too confident in his vocals there maybe, whereas the rest of the album his voice isn't bothering me as much

Hateful Guard at Maryland Training School for Boys (some dude), Saturday, 7 March 2009 03:48 (fifteen years ago) link

i'm glad "Booty" is demoted to bonus track (has any 'lead single' ever been dropped as quickly? shit was out 2 weeks before they switched to "Rockin'), starting to think i shouldn't have even put it on iTunes.
