tracks 1-5 on the Pusha album are dope, "King Push" is incredible, but it really falls off a cliff until the Pharrell track at the end

Why include "Never Satisfied," a sketch that fades out at 2 min, and leave off "Fo Real," which was released quietly this winter but is a fucking banger?
― voodoo chili, Saturday, 26 April 2014 01:23 (ten years ago) link
xxpost Andre 3000 on the "Bitch" chorus in 2014 is so....weird, like he's Ron Burgundy reading it off a teleprompter and not realizing the context. even in Outkast's pimp player days he was much more playful than bluntly dismissive
― getting strange ass all around the globe (Neanderthal), Saturday, 26 April 2014 01:24 (ten years ago) link
I like "Fo Real" but the Drake is FED UP with you haters verse on that is even more lame/tryhard than his usual
― nova, Saturday, 26 April 2014 01:25 (ten years ago) link
a lot of good songs have been out there that didn't make the album..."How It Was," "Substitute Everything," to say nothing of all the hooks he just gave to other artists instead of writing a full-on Future song. this is one of those albums that's hard for me to listen to without constantly A&R-ing better versions in my head. xp
― some dude, Saturday, 26 April 2014 01:27 (ten years ago) link
xpost I'm not the world's hugest Drake fan by any means but I think one of his better joints was the one on his latest album where he talked about his relationship w/ his dad. it was actually affecting.
― getting strange ass all around the globe (Neanderthal), Saturday, 26 April 2014 01:28 (ten years ago) link
just replace all the songs w/ "Move That Dope" on repeat
was that song "Too Much?" I don't like it but I did think it was one of the rare times where his flow hasn't sounded stiff as hell
― nova, Saturday, 26 April 2014 01:30 (ten years ago) link
"I Be U" is so great
― all is fair in love and womp (monotony), Saturday, 26 April 2014 02:03 (ten years ago) link
although if he'd put a Ciara verse on it it would've been an all-time classic
I'm surprised Whiney likes "Real and True".
― Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Saturday, 26 April 2014 05:33 (ten years ago) link
I'm surprised anyone likes that song
― nova, Saturday, 26 April 2014 07:16 (ten years ago) link
Take off Mr Hudson and it's pretty great.
― longneck, Saturday, 26 April 2014 09:52 (ten years ago) link
nah, he's just the most offensively bad part.
― nova, Saturday, 26 April 2014 18:53 (ten years ago) link
mr hudson actually wrote that song and future probably should've strong armed him off the final version but who knows what the power dynamics were there or whether hudson would've relinquished the track if he knew he wasn't getting a feature
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 26 April 2014 20:05 (ten years ago) link
Mr Hudson vs BoB: Worst third wheel on a Future romantic ballad?
― whatchutola khomeini (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 26 April 2014 21:35 (ten years ago) link
listened to whiney's reconfiguration today, minus "real and true," and i think that might be better than pluto. kinda sags in the middle though—much as i like it i don't think "karate chop" works in an album context per se
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Saturday, 26 April 2014 21:42 (ten years ago) link
"Karate Chop" works as a palate cleanser.

Pharrell rapping in 2014 is weird to me cos I feel like he should be frolicking in a forest snapping photos of koalas
― getting strange ass all around the globe (Neanderthal), Saturday, 26 April 2014 00:52 (Yesterday) Permalink
lmao missed this
he should've mashed up "Happy"/"Move That Dope" at the Oscars or SNL, abrupt transition
― nova, Sunday, 27 April 2014 21:39 (ten years ago) link
I do miss Substitute Everything and Wolf on this. Will we ever get a no dj Substitute Everything?
― longneck, Monday, 28 April 2014 06:48 (ten years ago) link
wow am only just hearing "substitute everything" and it's quite something. def should've been on the album
― lex pretend, Monday, 28 April 2014 09:00 (ten years ago) link
yeah, that song is great

fwiw, future said a few days ago that he wants to put out 'future hendrix' in december, and that it'd be songs like 'i be u'
i don't believe it'll happen but i sure hope it does
― Jacques_Lamure, Monday, 28 April 2014 21:02 (ten years ago) link
every year there's a rapper who says they're putting out two albums in a year and the last time it happened was plies in 2008 or something
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 28 April 2014 21:05 (ten years ago) link
right right i'm just saying i like the idea that he's still personally into the idea of putting out an album of "i be u" style songs
― Jacques_Lamure, Monday, 28 April 2014 21:13 (ten years ago) link
i will say though, from the way he's talked about this album, it feels a little bit like he's built up this sort of false dichotomy in his head where he thinks he can only either do very aggressive, somewhat by-the-books bangers or much more melodic singer songwriter-y stuff. where i think what made pluto's singles and his post-pluto features/hooks so great was the way he kinda let those two sensibilities bleed into eachother
― Jacques_Lamure, Monday, 28 April 2014 21:22 (ten years ago) link
I'm sensing this is an unpopular opinion, but "I Be U" is a big step down from the ballads on Pluto
― Evan R, Monday, 28 April 2014 21:23 (ten years ago) link
mmm yeah don't agree at all, but then I think "Neva End" is def. better than "Turn On the Lights" and ppl seem to love that last one, so I might have a slightly lower opinion of the Pluto ballads as a whole than others.
still think that harmonizing moment toward the end of "I Be U" is amazing
― nova, Monday, 28 April 2014 21:34 (ten years ago) link
i definitely don't think anything on this album is on the level of "Turn On The Lights" and "Neva End" but when "I Be U" showed up in my first listen it was definitely a relief, and that song has been sticking with me.
― some dude, Monday, 28 April 2014 21:42 (ten years ago) link
"Turn on the Lights" feels like a once-in-a-career type of song

i like the way he says "you could run around without the pants"
― some dude, Tuesday, 29 April 2014 01:47 (ten years ago) link
yea i def feel 'i won' but i p much hit >> when the ye verse starts

i mostly loved pluto but after playing this through about five times:
just replace all the songs w/ "Move That Dope" on repeat― getting strange ass all around the globe (Neanderthal)

― sitting on a claud all day gotta make your butt numb (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 29 April 2014 04:51 (ten years ago) link
but really, forget turn on the lights and neva end, there's nothing on the level of My or You Deserve It really
― sitting on a claud all day gotta make your butt numb (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 29 April 2014 04:54 (ten years ago) link
Blood sweat tears = you deserve it
― 龜, Tuesday, 29 April 2014 05:19 (ten years ago) link
I Be U towers over the rest of it for me, feel like I made a post to this effect not very long ago but oh well, bears repeating
massive LOL though at how a song that tender is followed up by "I'M COVERED IN MONEY I'M COVERED IN MONEY" over imposing luger-y beats
― ginuwine's cousin (monotony), Tuesday, 29 April 2014 05:35 (ten years ago) link
learning that detail was also behind "i luh ya papi" and "jealous" makes a lot of sense, all three songs feel like melodic siblings
― ginuwine's cousin (monotony), Tuesday, 29 April 2014 05:38 (ten years ago) link
'i won' is worth contraristanning for i think, even as a sad brundlefly of a song
― r|t|c, Tuesday, 29 April 2014 07:01 (ten years ago) link
"Covered n Money" is such a mess
"Blood, Sweat, Tears" does = "You Deserve It" only the latter is amazing and the former, not so much
― nova, Tuesday, 29 April 2014 07:48 (ten years ago) link
Special is my favorite, I think.
― longneck, Tuesday, 29 April 2014 08:03 (ten years ago) link
"special" is incredible. i mean, just for the mix of compassion and contempt and confusion in the line "you ain't even tryna be special" alone
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 29 April 2014 09:55 (ten years ago) link
i like to imagine Future is crooning it to Young Thug after reading deej's tweet about how the name "Young Thug" is a deliberate subversion of rappers trying to be "different"

haha is it actually a deliberate subversion??? could also apply to YG i guess
