man, I was blazing down Queens Blvd in the sun blasting this thing today with the windows open like a complete asshole, so fun

I own and enjoy It's album time, but I'm kind of with Durrr here.

Fiddler on a hot tin roof (ed.b), Monday, 5 May 2014 02:39 (ten years ago) link

cool there's at least 45 other threads on ilx u can be on to discuss things

otm

*pulls up next to ed.b at a red light, rolls down window right when the house piano on "Strandbar" comes in*, peels out*

So sorry I hurt your fragile opinion by not actually disagreeing with it.

Anyways, pre-crossover TT > post-crossover TT

Rolls down window, floors it as Eurodans synth stabs come in.

What's the matter ed.b, chicken?

house piano > Eurodans synth stabs

Cronk's Not Cronk (Eric H.), Monday, 5 May 2014 15:10 (ten years ago) link

Some parts of this album, Leisure Suit Preben in particular, remind me of a more lighthearted version of DJ Food.

how's life, Monday, 5 May 2014 15:43 (ten years ago) link

this album seems to be more popular than I expected

ogmor, Monday, 5 May 2014 15:51 (ten years ago) link

I kind of wondering if they're promoting through different channels. I first found out about it because a friend who is not normally into this sort of thing was listening to it on spotify.

Doritos Loco Parentis (Hurting 2), Monday, 5 May 2014 15:56 (ten years ago) link

Well, Pitchfork BNM for one.

Evan, Monday, 5 May 2014 17:31 (ten years ago) link

If someone out there has somehow missed out on Terje's EP run and ILM poll-topping, I can see how they might get really excited about this hot new Scandinavian DJ dude with a silly name.

popchips: the next snapple? (seandalai), Monday, 5 May 2014 18:29 (ten years ago) link

Well, Pitchfork BNM for one.

That didn't help Lindstrom...

skip, Monday, 5 May 2014 18:31 (ten years ago) link

yeah this dude writes for a pitchfork-ish publication so BNM almost certainly explains it, was not aware of that

well well, it would appear Brian Bennett's Solstice was more than just an "inspiration" for Preben Goes to Acapulco. Listen to them back to back. Sounds to me like a near cover/reworking almost.

there's lots of obvious pillaging there but it's not the same song

macklin' rosie (crüt), Wednesday, 21 May 2014 22:25 (ten years ago) link

well, LOTS of pillaging. Straight up looting almost. Kinda reminds me how some TV commercial music is trying to evoke the memory of a pop song/melody/style, but not quite directly riffing it due to copyright violation.

This is definitely being promoted through different channels - 6music are giving it a lot of attention and I've not heard them bother with Lindstrom much.

Part of me wishes I was hearing this whole thing for the first time, Inspector Norse would feel like the natural peak of the whole thing rather than the result of an EP awkwardly shunted into a half-finished album.

Matt DC, Thursday, 22 May 2014 08:32 (ten years ago) link

yeah it's not confusing so much given how accessible it is (i guess real life is no cool just came out too early) but a bit annoying given that i don't think it's half of what terje's capable of. it's sort of field-esque in its crossover to annoying people who display little interest in anything else like it (look at half the people in this thread who i've never seen in any ilm dance thread ever!)

lex pretend, Thursday, 22 May 2014 09:03 (ten years ago) link

Part of me wishes I was hearing this whole thing for the first time,

yup, if i hadn't already burned out on the best tracks i would be in love with this album

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Thursday, 22 May 2014 09:06 (ten years ago) link

x-post to Lex There might be... I dunno, other reasons for not posting in dance threads, other than just "don't like dance music"?

Branwell with an N, Thursday, 22 May 2014 09:07 (ten years ago) link

is it that the dance threads are boring b/c there's nothing to clusterfuck about?

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Thursday, 22 May 2014 09:09 (ten years ago) link

I was thinking more along the line of "specialist threads can be intimidating to non-experts".

Branwell with an N, Thursday, 22 May 2014 09:15 (ten years ago) link

they're also pretty boring though, but functional. like techno~~

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Thursday, 22 May 2014 09:20 (ten years ago) link

it's a shame robbie williams 'candy' didn't make the album cut

nathey, Thursday, 22 May 2014 09:28 (ten years ago) link

Yeah the dance music threads are tedious because they're by and large just people posting Youtube links, which is okay to browse (although I hate hearing music like that, especially dance music) but don't assume that people aren't interacting with them just because they're not posting.

it's sort of field-esque in its crossover to annoying people who display little interest in anything else like it

Ugh we don't need to do this every time something that isn't straight-up indie becomes popular.

Matt DC, Thursday, 22 May 2014 09:37 (ten years ago) link

I mean most cosmic disco (including Lindstrom) has minimal interest in promoting itself to people outside its main audience, although Lindstrom has obviously had mad Pitchfork love for years that's partly because of word-of-mouth. Whether that's the labels or the artists or both I don't know.

Matt DC, Thursday, 22 May 2014 09:39 (ten years ago) link

Like, when Delorean Dynamite and Inspector Norse have been played on the radio, people's ears in my office (people who aren't really that into music at all) pricked up, the same would probably happen in the case of I Feel Space as well.

Matt DC, Thursday, 22 May 2014 09:41 (ten years ago) link

i don't post in dance threads but i love dance music

macklin' rosie (crüt), Thursday, 22 May 2014 14:50 (ten years ago) link

Same here. If anyone wants to direct me to some other albums that are similar to this or Lindstrom, I'd really appreciate that. They are two of my favourite artists around and I'd love to hear something else similar. It's a little intimidating to go on specialist threads sometimes and as Matt DC pointed out going through a bunch of YouTube links can sometimes be a bit much.

I would not agree with this at all. Different chords, different melody, different rhythm, different bassline, different tempo. "Inspiration" seems about right.

Doritos Loco Parentis (Hurting 2), Thursday, 22 May 2014 15:02 (ten years ago) link

FWIW I like dance music but I have limited occasion to listen to it, since I don't really go to clubs. The only time it kind of makes sense is my occasional driving alone or maybe cleaning with headphones on or something. Whereas this record is dance-ish music I can put on in the office.

Doritos Loco Parentis (Hurting 2), Thursday, 22 May 2014 15:04 (ten years ago) link

I played Strandbar for my wife and when it got to the piano lick she was like "how can something so simple be so good?"

i slept on it at the time but the lovelock album (steve moore doing cosmic disco) is excellent.

maybe try the computer incarnations for world peace comps too? the first volume is full of classic cosmic cuts and the second features newer artists, including a fun collab between terje and prins thomas

maybe the secret circuit album from last year too? (tactile galactics) that one might be more acid than cosmic i guess

cifwp comps is a good rec; the milky disco comps are great, too: http://www.discogs.com/Various-MilkyDiscoThreeToTheStars/master/324783

also the gatto fritto LP: http://www.discogs.com/Gatto-Fritto-Gatto-Fritto/master/329150

That Rubber Room song is great. Thanks for the other recommendations, I'll check them out. Think I downloaded hat Secret Circuit album but haven't got round to it yet.

I have the first two Milky Disco compilations which contain some great stuff. I actually have that Gatto Fritto album. Someone (possibly you?) Nominated Beachy Head on the 2011 tracks list and I fell on love with it. That's easily the best song on there but the rest is really enjoyable.

sorry about the lousy sound quality but here's a big room full of people losing their minds to todd playing 'inspector norse' during his live show.
