i mean when it comes right down to it for me, there's lots of great stuff here, but it feels like work, whereas Pluto was effortless.

when i say Pluto was a grower for me, it's because I couldn't stop going back to it.

with Honest, it's like I am pushing myself to keep listening and harvesting the goods.

granted, it's been out like two weeks, so...

i'm right there with you

agree

don't get me wrong, i still like a lot about it, and i haven't put it away.

where i'm at right now was probably inevitable.

wtf is this horrible new pharrell verse on the radio edit of "move that dope"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eadc5hlXuUs

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 19 May 2014 14:42 (ten years ago) link

yeah i only heard that on the radio once but i was so totally confused that Pharrell had apparently recorded extra bars that they swapped in to replace the best part of the entire song

ςὖτιe (some dude), Monday, 19 May 2014 14:45 (ten years ago) link

maybe he recorded that version first and then rewrote his verse at the last minute with the awesome double time part? i dunno

ςὖτιe (some dude), Monday, 19 May 2014 14:46 (ten years ago) link

yeah and on top of it all the verse has tons of edits so it sounds even worse. why record a verse of a radio edit that needs heavier redactions than the original? makes no sense

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 19 May 2014 15:04 (ten years ago) link

idk if i really get what's up with this album, seems really drab and unlikeable to me. the intro track is great tho.

goole, Monday, 19 May 2014 16:16 (ten years ago) link

i agree except "Look Ahead" is one of the most drab and unlikable tracks for me

ςὖτιe (some dude), Monday, 19 May 2014 16:17 (ten years ago) link

Stretch from Benz Frienz -> I'll Be Yours is world-beating imo

I do pick and choose from the front half

, Monday, 19 May 2014 16:22 (ten years ago) link

Think "Look Ahead" is a little interesting just cuz the beat is very un-Runners like, but the drums are weak & not meshed well with the rest of the track

man I remember the golden age of those guys' beats in college, guess there's only so much you can do with that production style though. Still dig "Where the Cash At" ugly drums n all though

nova, Thursday, 29 May 2014 08:00 (ten years ago) link

"Where The Cash At" is classic.

two weeks pass...

T-shirt been 100% ignored in the thread? Best song there.

Raccoon Tanuki, Thursday, 12 June 2014 23:04 (ten years ago) link

it is the third best song of the first three, but otherwise yeah

sci-fi looking, chubby-leafed, delicately bizarre (contenderizer), Thursday, 12 June 2014 23:06 (ten years ago) link

nah. T-Shirt's solid but ain't even trying to be special. Look Ahead is trying but idk if it succeeds as more than a quirky intro. Move That Dope is pretty tiresome.

rob, Friday, 13 June 2014 01:16 (ten years ago) link

move that dope is tiresome except when it's playing LOUD. then its awesome. and i get a kick out of the shameless way pusha bites into his terrible "nose" joke. love "look ahead" for the rush of "ain't another better feeling like the feeling when a n make it out the slums", plus the sample.

cant get past how good the metro boomin trax are off no sleep -- maison margiela, the matrix & how it was are dope af

i love abt 1/2 of honest honestly but im not a future ballads guy @ all :\

johnny crunch, Friday, 13 June 2014 01:53 (ten years ago) link

xp
I burned out on MTD before the album even came out, so I don't think any context would ever make me warm to that particular 5:41. I do like Look Ahead, I should listen to it more

rob, Friday, 13 June 2014 02:01 (ten years ago) link

"never satisfied" also fades out before the 2 min mark

they did play a full version of that track at a listening thing though \(o_O)/

Future said in an interview that Drake didn't like his verse and asked that it be taken off the album

some dude, Friday, 13 June 2014 02:46 (ten years ago) link

I like how it fades out as drake is singing the hook, it's like the stage hook pulling him off stage

Nah. It's the only one I've kept despite not being great.

only real problem w/ t-shirt is the spaced-out first 30 seconds are so great that i'm always a bit disappointed when it suddenly resolves into, oh, just another creeping plod

move that dope was great the first dozen or so times

°ㅇ๐ْ ° (gr8080), Friday, 13 June 2014 14:45 (ten years ago) link

it kinda weirds me out that "Move That Dope" has gotten bigger and bigger at radio over the last couple months. figured it would just go away after a short stay in the top 10, but it's now at #3 on urban radio.

some dude, Friday, 13 June 2014 14:59 (ten years ago) link

I dug "Move That Dope" at first, too, but now every time it comes on it's like, "great, so this is the next six minutes of my life now"

Evan R, Friday, 13 June 2014 15:18 (ten years ago) link

Y'all are mad. That beat is so visceral and mad and I basically love every verse, even that stupid Pusha T one. Top 5 of the year easy.

The Reverend, Friday, 13 June 2014 16:29 (ten years ago) link

ha, an extra "mad" snuck in there

The Reverend, Friday, 13 June 2014 16:29 (ten years ago) link

its a cool song but i dont like the guest verses, feels disjointed

Honest is one of those weird sophomore albums that isn't as good or important as the debut and won't be as fondly remembered, but that I'll end up listening to way more
