Jamie, when can we expect a lineup announcement for ATP New York's Sunday lineup curated by the Lips?

ilxor, Monday, 30 March 2009 19:13 (fifteen years ago) link

and even Sigur Rós, who played for £500 back when they were making good music.

Ouch.

proxymuzak (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 1 May 2009 16:29 (fifteen years ago) link

It's really a bummer sign of the American economy that the uk December ATP is selling out already and the US one gets every single incredible band in the world and still has tix to spare. Esp since anything with the words "animal collective" sells out in new York within 5 minutes

proxymuzak (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 1 May 2009 16:35 (fifteen years ago) link

any significance to GGD at Bumbershoot the week before?

Melvins and Jesus Lizard aside, last year's lineup KILLS this year's pathetic excuse for a lineup so far.

Reatards Unite, Friday, 1 May 2009 20:05 (fifteen years ago) link

Last year had better headliners. I feel like Animal Collective and Deerhunter are not quite sufficient for a Saturday headlining duo; hoping there's more to come in that regard.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Friday, 1 May 2009 21:16 (fifteen years ago) link

Animal Collective, Melvins and Deerhunter as Saturday 2009 headliners
vs.
Lighning Bolt, Shellac and Silver Mt. Zion Saturday 2008 headlines

that seems pretty fair imo, guys.

proxymuzak (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 1 May 2009 21:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah... fair enough.

I still think ATP NY 09 needs a third heavy hitter for Don't Look Back on Friday. I'm looking forward to Suicide and the Feelies, but Dirty Three and the Drones (much as I enjoy both at times) seem a bit weak to me.

This lineup, on the other hand, just seems incredible:

Devo
The Jesus Lizard
Spiritualized
Sleep - Performing Holy Mountain / selections from Dopesmoker and more.
Grails
Young Marble Giants - Performing Colossal Youth

I think ATP NY has a bit of catching up to do...

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Tuesday, 12 May 2009 17:14 (fifteen years ago) link

You're comparing the heavy-hitters of one day of ATP US vs an entire weekend of UK

Appx what % of ticketholders end up staying somewhere besides Kutschers and Raleigh? Last year someone broke into my friends car and slept in it!

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 27 May 2009 14:38 (fifteen years ago) link

Not sure to be honest; i think the number of rooms has changed a bit this year.
a majority of ticket holders can get a room though.

Jamie_ATP, Wednesday, 27 May 2009 15:12 (fifteen years ago) link

more or less?

there was a lot of rooms they didn't even use last year. Mainly because they looked like they were in three inches of water at one point.

staying on kutchers in the best way to go. if anyone is reading this is on the fence about going, go buy that 6-person room NOW and fill it with your friends later

Hah! I doubt I'll be able to find two other Texas people to help fill my 3 person room at the Raleigh... much less twice that size at Kutshers, nice as it may be.

Sufjan Stevens, Shellac, Circulatory System, Grouper picked by us.
Crystal Castles, Super Furry Animals, Boris, The Low Lows, Oneida presents The Ocropolis picked by The Flaming Lips.

The Oneida thing sounds like it'll be amazing. info they gave us: "Oneida will transport the impetus, spirit and community of their multidisciplinary studio/performance space, The Ocropolis, to ATP for a full day of improvisation, collaboration, and recording, combined with the astounding Mighty Robot Visuals light crew. "

Jamie_ATP, Friday, 10 July 2009 11:35 (fourteen years ago) link

Sufjan Stevens

Q: Are We Not ATP? A: We Are Pitchfork!

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Friday, 10 July 2009 13:33 (fourteen years ago) link

Just kidding. I don't much care for Sufjan, though.

Really looking forward to Boris, Oneida, Grouper among others. Circulatory System could be good as well. Shellac of course is a hit but I'd rather a new face on an ATP lineup -- will def. be at their show, though.

Likewise. Very psyched. New 3x album is one of my favorites of 2009.

#lottagoodnook (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 10 July 2009 14:25 (fourteen years ago) link

i fucking LOVE the new album. seeing them in a 100 capacity pub in brighton next month, very exciting.
i'm not sure to be honest, but from the way they described it i'm sure they've got something pretty good planned

Jamie_ATP, Friday, 10 July 2009 15:09 (fourteen years ago) link

oh shit sufjan stevens, boris and oneida have just sealed the deal. i'm going. jamie: if i don't need hotel accomodations, should i still be worried about tickets selling out and buy mine soon?

samosa gibreel, Friday, 10 July 2009 15:39 (fourteen years ago) link

Hallogallo was actually a little dull and marred by bad, bassy sound. Sucks cuz it was one of the things I was looking fwd too. But they played some of my fave Harmonia jams, which was great

office (max) (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 7 September 2010 13:58 (thirteen years ago) link

not as loud as i hoped, but fantastic.

This is how I feel every time I've seen Boris since the first, in 2007. They were louder from *outside* the venue, waiting in line, back in 2007, than they are nowadays. But that's a small complaint and I'm sure my ears are thankful, even if my heart is not.

I had organized a big pool party in the middle of Sonic Youth's set and everyone was psyched to go, then they played an all-80s setlist and people were so transfixed that i was the only one in the pool

Hold up a sec, I mean, swimming is fucking awesome, but you skipped an all-'80s SY set for a dip in the pool???

ilxor has truly been got at and become an ILXor (ilxor), Tuesday, 7 September 2010 14:04 (thirteen years ago) link

i don't really like Sonic Youth all that much iirc. I saw about a 1/2 hour of their set and certainly enjoyed it.

Were Sleep as brain-rattlingly loud/heavy as advertised?

ilxor has truly been got at and become an ILXor (ilxor), Tuesday, 7 September 2010 14:09 (thirteen years ago) link

they went pretty big. neurosis drummer has kind of a light touch, but it was otherwise explosive

office (max) (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 7 September 2010 14:09 (thirteen years ago) link

i mean, it was a delirious weekend. the whole ILX crew of "lolconcerts? I would rather be CUDDLING with my WIFE and a BOOK" is just missing the fuck out for real

office (max) (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 7 September 2010 14:11 (thirteen years ago) link

The 10+ minutes of Text of Light was a bust - squalls of guitar feedback with wailing sax made for a fascinating few minutes, but grew tiresome quickly.

I think I'm right in saying that the most recent Sonic Youth album they plundered was Daydream Nation. Everything else was from before that. They sounded fantastic. An Evol or Sister tour would be great. Unlikely though. Disagree with Whiney on Fucked Up, I thought they were like a Wal Mart vision of pre-packaged punk rock rebellion, just completely lame and pointless. Sunn O))) and Boris seemed pretty loud from where I was standing, I shudder to think how loud they could have been at that 2007 show mentioned up there.

The Jim Jarmusch/Thurston Moore Q&A was a highlight. The story of how they met at a copy shop in the LES was fun - it was a place where everyone used to go to copy flyers and make fanzines in the pre Kinkos era. Moore worked there for a while until he got fired for making copies of his own 'zine on the sly.

Position Position, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 20:38 (thirteen years ago) link

I went to the Sunn/Boris show in Brooklyn last night. Was absolutely fantastic despite 2/3 of the power blowing out. It killed the mood a little bit but after trying to fix the situation they came back and did a kick ass show without any fancy lighting. It was great. It was totally loud enough from where I was. Loved it. I'd see them anytime either band comes back to the city. Sunn is the shit.

your ears probably just adjusted. it's like mbv's "holocaust" section that at first deafens, but eventually one's brain starts to tune it out.
