i don't really see waka and keef as being that similar

ruffalo soldier (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 18 August 2014 19:29 (nine years ago) link

relistening to this now and it holds up well
it's not on this thread but i remember somebody put a great post about how janelle monae probably brought the album home all excited, queued it up to her track and there's an indelible conversation about teabagging forever prefacing her gentle ballad

Lol.

On a side note, some of Young Thug's stuff is pretty technical, just not in a traditional rappity rap way.

The Reverend, Monday, 18 August 2014 23:46 (nine years ago) link

I love rappity rap.
I wish the D.O.C. hadn't gotten in that car accident :(

Waka and keef aren't that similar

Keef's more of a gucci disciple

'flash in the pan'

― rap steve gadd (D-40), Wednesday, 20 August 2014 00:33 (3 hours ago) Permalink

fair enough, I just think dude's music sucks & there's other rappers who go for that vibe (GENERAL vibe mind, I'm not saying he's derivative) who do it way better

nova, Wednesday, 20 August 2014 03:39 (nine years ago) link

I mean Waka. Keef's buzz has faded a ton yeah? again though either way just not a fan, there's a point where rappers who aren't "traditionally" good don't actually have anything else to make up for/overcome it. dudes who're supposed to get over on swag/style/vibe who have none of those things imo.

nova, Wednesday, 20 August 2014 03:41 (nine years ago) link

When did this place get taken over by middlebrow rap fans?

The Reverend, Wednesday, 20 August 2014 03:56 (nine years ago) link

since we started hanging out in a Big Boi solo album thread probably

some dude, Wednesday, 20 August 2014 03:59 (nine years ago) link

lol middlebrow

nova, Wednesday, 20 August 2014 04:00 (nine years ago) link

I like Waka and hate Keef. They aint the same

Neanderthal, Wednesday, 20 August 2014 04:01 (nine years ago) link

is Young Thug middlebrow? dang and I was feeling all edgy talkin' bout him with people at work

nova, Wednesday, 20 August 2014 04:02 (nine years ago) link

wtf is highbrow rap anyways? shabazz palaces?

go ahead. make vid where u rap about this new TMNT movie. (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 20 August 2014 04:02 (nine years ago) link

well yeah wasn't saying that

Waka def. has a "swag" also it's just not something I find appealing. Keef OTOH is swagless imo

Keef Otoh Swagless is the lead villain in the new Star Wars movie

another general comparison but I feel the same way about Keef as I do about Juicy J (recent, not Three 6 knowledgeable besides a couple jams I dig) in that they're supposed to have this cool style that makes up for their lack of rapping ability, but their flow/voices are terrible & they're as boring as any conscious rap stereotype, just in different ways

nova, Wednesday, 20 August 2014 04:10 (nine years ago) link

Man if you ain't about Juicy J...gtfo

Neanderthal, Wednesday, 20 August 2014 04:19 (nine years ago) link

Juicy J has one of the greatest flows ever

some dude, Wednesday, 20 August 2014 04:21 (nine years ago) link

why tho

nova, Wednesday, 20 August 2014 04:22 (nine years ago) link

his flow is the audio equivalent of thudding your head against the wall

nova, Wednesday, 20 August 2014 04:23 (nine years ago) link

And what exactly could be better than that?

longneck, Wednesday, 20 August 2014 06:45 (nine years ago) link

I just feel like people judge quote unquote ignorant rap on a curve at this point, like an overreaction to the previous underground/backpacker mentality

I mean I dig Young Thug's music tons but that's cuz he's got style for days, some of these other guys it's just OK what am I getting out of this

nova, Wednesday, 20 August 2014 08:44 (nine years ago) link

but back to the subject Andre is def. better than Big Boi and anyone who thinks otherwise is cray, relisten to Andre's "Gangsta Shit" verse. shit even the "So Fresh, So Clean" verse where he raps 100% to the drum hits

nova, Wednesday, 20 August 2014 08:45 (nine years ago) link

Young Thug's on the Pitchfork list, so=middlebrow, maybe? And in reply to The Reverend way above I meant his approach/image is sort of sloppy, not his technique, tho I hadn't actually thought abt it it till you mentioned it

sonic thedgehod (albvivertine), Wednesday, 20 August 2014 09:56 (nine years ago) link

I feel the same way about Keef as I do about Juicy J in that their voices are terrible

not sure someone who doesnt have any ears is the best to judge this

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 August 2014 13:51 (nine years ago) link

i mean both of those guys have notably amazing voices and its a big part of how they operate

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 August 2014 13:52 (nine years ago) link

I'm confused - would liking Chief Keef make me highbrow or lowbrow

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 20 August 2014 15:21 (nine years ago) link

I think it depends on your reasons for liking him
