am i wrong in feeling like this is probably sondheim's most perfect musical work? i feel like half my idiomatic language comes from listening to this.
"later, henrick."
this was the first time i realized someone could be named desiree. (i now know a woman very well w/ that name and bc of that she always reminds me of little night music).
for good reason clowns gets the most love but holy shit if the miller's son is not the most transcendent thing

well, yes, it's great. (tho the adaptation is loose)
i believe the 3 live renditions of "Send in the Clowns" i've heard were by
Van MorrisonStephin MerrittBernadette Peters

i haven't heard van morrison's send in the clowns. i'll check that out as well. i generally prefer it as mournful to whimsical.
it's kinda lol considering how much we've bickered on ilx over the years that we're pretty much the only two posters who consistently talk about sondheim (+ other musicals) on ilx. i wonder if in general we share an aesthetic visual affinity, even if not temperamental or political ones.

catherine zeta-jones was in most recent revival?? can she sing?
...i hope PBS broadcasts it
― Mordy, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 22:16 (nine years ago) link
judging by Chicago, yes, CZJ can sing. I am not sure Van the Man recorded "Clowns," I heard it live around '84.
(Mordy, i don't think you're an awful person or anything. We both have probably lost our cool at each other unnecessarily.)

In 2012 Ferland is starring in the Baltimore Center Stage production of Into The Woods as the Baker's Wife.

In my opinion, Now/Later/Soon is one of Sondheim's very best moments.
